    Dr. McGrath, you are the reason I started oral minoxidil(low dose 2.5mg) by watching video's with you on YT. I have prestription for the drug, and I made a lifetime commitment, since minoxidil works as long as you take it. I took 5alpha reductase inhibitors for about 2 years now, but apparently my MBP is too agressive. Im first week on OM 2.5mg and no sides.
    Great video BTW🙂

    The thing is if you have a hair transplant you’ll end up having to take finasteride anyway if you want to preserve your existing hair with the transplanted so that it looks more natural and uniform so that more hair doesn’t keep falling out. So if you’d have to take it getting a transplant anyway, it’s a no brainer to me to take it first and try it first anyway.

    Thank you for your video. I'm 18 and just started treatment. Serious diffused thinning. I also have been diagnosed with low ferritin so on iron treatment as well. I'm 2 1/2 months in and shedding weak hairs. Trying to be patient but its so frustrated. Your video gives me some hope

    Hi doctor!
    Thanks for the very informative video.
    Did y say you have been using finasteride for 19 years? What NW scale were you before getting a hair transplant?
    Thanks

    • @mcgrathmedical4780

      Yes, I've been taking Finasteride for many years now and I was a Norwood Scale 5 before my hair transplant surgery. Glad to see you're enjoying the videos and thanks for watching!

      @@mcgrathmedical4780 But you have a full head of hair. It looks great! Did u have more than one procedure?
      Another thing: in my country, we have only a medication called prostamed 5 mg which is basically finasteride, do you recommend to cut into four Particles of 1.25mg? If yes, is it better to take 1.25 mg everyday or every other day mainly for the beginning? Or as someone suggested, cutting into 10 of 0.5 mg each( though it would be difficult to have same particles). The point here is by the end of day 10, we will be having same amount of fin in the body!! It s like a 10 day plan. Does this make sense?
      You advice matters a lot. I wish I were closer to you...

    My only worry with a compound minoxidil / finasteride pill is its basically forever. I imagine soon as you stop taking it, it all goes away again from what I have researched. How long would a FUE treatment work for someone who has already lost all the hair (picture shrunken hairs on the bald spot crown) and almost all hairs going towards the front gone as well last? Can't keep what you don't got, right? lol

      The pill helps you from getting worse and worse. That can be extremely frustrating.

    Hey Steve !
    I'm on 6 month of using finasteride (finpecia) still sheeding a lot of hairs and I'm also loosing hairs from my side and donor area.what should I do now?

    • @mcgrathmedical4780
      @mcgrathmedical4780  3 года назад

      Hey Astik, the best thing to do is check your before and after photos to really see how hair is changing. It can be difficult to see accurately see change in your own hair when you see it day to day. Are you a patient of McGrath Medical? The medical team here can assist you with reviewing your before and after photos and provide you with even advise you on how to proceed with your medication concerns.

      Sadly, we cannot offer any kind of advice for products which are sold abroad. It would be best for you to speak with a local physician for further insight into any other medications which may be available to you in your country.

    Do you think increased estrogen is a concern to think about before starting finasteride? I just keep seeing that come up among the group of people that spread fear on the drug..

    • @mcgrathmedical4780
      @mcgrathmedical4780  3 года назад +2

      There is a possibility that finasteride could raise a person's estrogen level through hormonal pathways; however, any negative or even noticeable side effects that could occur from that elevation would be specific patient to patient. If you have any questions or concerns about finasteride, our medical team is available and happy to assist you.
