What an outstanding sermon on repentance and salvation! When I was a Calvinist preacher in a reformed church, I knew deep down this was true. We did preach salvation by faith alone, then contradicted ourselves by checking out our lives to confirm whether or not our level of righteousness measured up to being saved. This constantly confused me and I eventually realized we were dangerously wrong about repentance and that salvation by faith alone is exactly that. Belief in the Savior who paid the price on the cross for every sin is what saves us, so why should we be checking to see if we are saved? I prayed for more guidance and confirmation, then one afternoon, Dr. Arnold preached exactly that message and I then KNEW I was saved! Pastor Jesse is now doing the same, praise God, and I plead with all of you to preach this message as this is the ONLY true Gospel of peace!

@@BibleLine I think many do understand salvation by faith in the Savior and keep it to themselves to avoid conflict. Still, it’s a lonely path without much meaningful fellowship with others on a different wavelength. Appreciate your response! You guys do a great job interacting with others.
Yankee is awesome, he is the first one I have ever heard that cleared the message up for me, yet I still am listening because I keep seeing how sinful I am. I think I am confused still and look at myself vs the finished works of Christ. I am not sure what it is in me keeping me in bondage but I suspect it is the morale laws of God.
I tell myself yes I believe but I am still sinning and nothing has changed, my salvation is only a theory and feel no joy in it for being stuck deeply in sin. I believe that God yesterday told me to forget about my sins and only focus on the gospel and the finished works of Christ for restortion.
@KeithGreenshields hello. I know this is 10 months late, but I went through this exact thing. I started feeling condemnation because I was sinning and I kept hearing this voice that said I was completely lost and the fact I was still sinning was proof of this. I tried to turn as much as I could. Then I came across mathew 7:22-23 jesus says that not all who say lord lord will enter into heaven. They said "but lord lord, did we not prophesy and cast out demons in your name?" And Jesus replied "away from me! I never knew you, you workers of iniquity!" This bothered me terribly. It confused me and made me feel even more lost because at that moment, reading that verse, I knew that I was that person. Why? I didn't know, but I knew something was wrong and I couldn't understand what. I prayed, I even cried, countless nights I had bad sleep and woke up feeling a sudden fear and condemnation that would set the mood for my whole day. I prayed to God. I admitted all of my sins that I knew about, and asked for forgiveness for those, and the ones I didn't know about. That very day, I heard a sermon on RUclips about that very verse and suddenly the thought came to me in an instant; those who were turned away, were they who depended upon their "good works" to be saved...think about it. Jesus turned them away and they said in their own defense "did we not prophecy and cast out demons in your name?" In essence they were saying how can you not let us in? We are saved, we did good things for you. This struck me suddenly and I felt something lift off of me. I can't explain it but I felt relief. I suddenly knew that I was now not the person Jesus was turning away. Jesus says, I am the way, the truth and the life, none come to the father but by me." ...and there's another verse that says "if we confess with our sins and ask forgiveness, he is faithful to forgive." Suddenly I felt no need to continue doing the things I was doing. Jesus freed me from that and I finally understood what his death meant. I didn't give those things up to save myself. To make myself right with God. I did them because He calls us to be holy. He already saved me on the cross.
I hope this helps. It may not take upon first reading. But pray to him and confess with your heart. If you believe He died for you and paid the wages (death) you no longer are responsible to pay that wage yourself. Jesus already took care of it. Confess your sins to God. Not to be saved, because Jesus already saved you with His death. But because He is faithful to forgive us. One day, you will u derstand this as I have.😊
Yes, once you have believed, you are saved forever. Salvation can never be lost, but your fellowship with God can be forfeited daily.

I listened to this guy as well. His message is confusing. He says Jesus paid the price for our sins then demands people to amend their ways to be saved! I agree. He preaches a butchered Gospel that muddies the living waters of the word.

God just wants us to believe Him! When He said Jesus was crucified, buried, and risen for my justification, I believe Him and trust only in that! Praise God!
A very important subject for people to grasp. Repentance is something that a lot of people don't understand today unfortunately, because of the Catholic definition of penance which is not the same thing as repentance which is a change of mind

You have a good verse reference in Ephesians 1:13.
1:12 says "who first trusted in Christ..." Then 13 says "13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,"
- It is evident that the Holy Spirit literally SEALS a person upon belief/trusting in Jesus Christ.
Another example is found in Acts 10:43-45
"43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost."
The Holy Spirit indwells the believer upon belief in Christ. He stays in the believer until the redemption of our bodies via the rapture or death. See Eph. 4:30

39:40 to 40:05 You gave an example of repentance (i.e. changing your mind). In it you talk about changing our minds about certain sins: "As you are disciplined by the Lord, you should be doing one of these, "Maybe that is not a good thing. Maybe I should stop doing that. I need to change my mind about 'this' and do 'this'"
So can repentance be a change of our mind about sin? And that change of mind goes something like, "maybe that is not a good thing. maybe I should stop doing that." So when we call people to repent (i.e. change their minds) in order to be saved, does that include changing their minds about sin?

You can very well change your mind about anything. The NT definition of repentance is from metanoia meaning literally “after think.” We derive that as a change of mind to make more sense in English. Repentance can be a change of mind about sin, but repentance isn’t also a change of action. When I repent and believe in Jesus Christ, it’s really instantaneously one thing happening. I’m just changing my mind from what I thought before, and I’m now trusting in Jesus Christ. The idea to change your mind about sin does not fit the salvation narrative because Jesus Christ paid for all of your sin. The only thing you need to know is that He actually did that for you. It seems you desire to fit a “turn from sin” definition into repentance with regards to salvation, but God never asks us to turn from sin in order to be saved into eternal life. He asks us to change our minds about whatever we thought saves us and rather believe in Jesus Christ as Savior.

40:31 should probably look at what powerlessness is for Christians in that they keep doing what they hate even though they do believe. Example addictions is something they can't control and need God to remove the source.
While it is true that we need to trust in God to help remove “the source,” we must be willing to change. Addictions are beatable and often it is willingness and discipline. There is never a time when the only choices are both bad/evil. God will provide a way of escape (1 Cor. 10:13), but He allows us to chose. The flesh is weak, but the Spirit is willing. This is why we need to choose to walk in the Spirit because of course the Spirit cannot sin (1 John 3:9).

So I can change my mind and believe in Christ and then keep viewing pornography, or commit rape, murder, adultery, lying etc. and live a life of committing those acts because I changed my mind about Christ and still assuredly call myself saved because to turn from sin is a "work"?

@@BibleLine It just feels like sometimes the video says repentance doesn't have to do with salvation and 5 minutes later it does. Maybe it's just me, maybe I need to register, but that's it.
@ShogunOrta It depends on the context and which original word is being used in that context (6x words in Hebrew and Greek language mean repent).

You cannot repent UNTIL you believe in Christ!! If we can, or in your belief, repent before we are saved then we DON"T NEED CHRIST at least that's what your teaching. Here is salvation, And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Yahusha answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
Our salvation is Christ came to earth, we can do nothing to receive this salvation and it's ours even if we don't believe. Salvation is "NOT SUFFERING THE SECOND DEATH"!
Eternal life is believing in Christ and his dying for all our sins and obeying his instructions. We must know the difference and understand that it is two separate things.
Salvation in Christ starts when one hears the gospel of Christ. A brief summary of this gospel is that it consists of things we must believe, commands that we must obey to be saved, and promises of God that we will receive after salvation. This gospel of Christ tells us about what Jesus did for all humans on the cross as our Lord, God, and Savior. Once a person hears and believes in what Jesus has offered by way of salvation, they must realize their sin, repent of their sins, confess Him as Lord, get water baptized for the forgiveness of their sins, and live obediently to His commands.
Here are a few verses that summarize the gospel of Christ.
• The gospel must be preached for it is the power of God unto salvation (Mark 16 15; Romans 1 16).
• Saving Faith is the direct result of instruction in God's word (John 6 44 and 45; Romans 10 17).
• Saving Faith leads to repentance (Acts 2:36-38).
• Repentance leads to salvation (2 Corinthians 7:9-10).
• When one has repented, turned and confessed his faith in Jesus (Acts 8:37, Romans 10 10), he is then water baptized into Christ (Romans 6:1-6).
• This makes one a child of God (Galatians 3:26-27).
• 1 John 2:3-4 obey is commandments if you actually KNOW Him.

24 minutes in to 27 min. This minister says that changing the word of God to say what is doesn't say is a heresy. He gave the illustration... an Easter production did that by saying (As Peter) "Turn from sin and ask Him into your heart" perverting Acts 2:38
But I was surprised that right after saying this, he perverted Acts 2:38 by saying in contradiction to the clear words "Repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit..." The minister said "Baptism doesn't save you." Peter says in 1Pe 3:21 "Baptism now saves us" and here in Acts 2:38 is the clarity of that promise. "Be baptized for the remission of sins and you shall receive the Spirit." Confirming Jn. 3:5 you must be born again, born of water and Spirit.
What is the clear word of promise to be believed? Answer: Be baptized and you get forgiveness of sins and you get the Holy Spirit.
This is against the "Because I..." theology. Put anything you will after the "Because I" and you will understand that your "faith" is in you.
"REPENT" is to change your mind or direction. Peter was telling these doers of the law to not do, but to be done unto, to be washed in baptism. True water doesn't save, the Word of God does, but when God's word is put in the water it is a baptism which now saves us.
How do you know your saved? Because Jesus died for me and gave me His Spirit sealing me till the Day of Redemption. One asks, "Yes, Jesus died for sins and gives eternal life to those who believe; but how do you know you believe? Answer: He baptized me, promising me His Spirit forgiveness of sins , life and salvation.
"Because He...."
The thief on the cross was saved by the word Jesus gave to him, This day you will be with Me in paradise." In baptism I have His direct word to me, and I am there forever seated with Him in the heavenlies.
It's a "Because He..." theology rather than a "Because I..."
What if Jesus told you to wash in the pool of Siloam? This is what he told a blind man to do to receive his sight. Should the blind man have refused and said, "No, I'm just going to believe for my eyes to be opened."? Isn't faith washing in the pool of Siloam?
Naaman, the leper, was told to dip 7 times in the Jordan, and he would be healed of his leprosy. He would have gone away thinking that the water in his hometown was better water... but his servant convinced him to go and dip in the Jordan, saying, "If the man of God told you to do something great, wouldn't you have done it? Why not simply to wash and be clean?"
The simplicity that is in Christ is that those baptized into Christ are given the Father, Son and Spirit by His gifts, His sure and certain means. It is an objective reality given directly to us through sure objective means that He has instituted. Without faith it's impossible to please God. That means without Jesus it's impossible to please God. Befor faith came and now that faith has come means, Now that Jesus has come in the flesh. Faith is the substance of things hoped for means Jesus is the Substance that was given. He is the hoped for Messiah, Redeemer. Faith is the evidence of things not seen means, Jesus, the image of the invisible God, is our assurance. Jesus is our faith from first to last, the Author and finisher of our faith.
We are saved by grace through faith and that not of ourselves means, We are saved by Jesus, through the working of Jesus because Jesus (Jn 3:16) is the gift of God.
Faith was the dipping in the Jordan as the word of God was given to him. Can you imagine Naaman coming back and saying, "I dipped, as you said to do, but I wasn't healed." And the Prophet saying, "Well, that's because you didn't have enough faith!" No! That's absurd because if the man of God said it, it has to happen as the Nan of God said. So dipping 7 times was faith! It wasn't a measure of confidence that he had in the word. And it seemed he had very little. It was the strength of the word given.
When Peter said, "Repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins and you shall receive the Holy Spirit..." And this was most certainly in water, just as the Ethiopian said."Here is much WATER..." They received the forgiveness of sins and the promised Holy Spirit. Why? Because they were washed, they were baptized.
John baptized with water, but Jesus baptized with the Spirit. What is meant by this? It's not waterless! John's baptism was with only water; it didn't give the Holy Spirit. It didn't give the forgiveness of sins because it didn't have the word of promise given in those waters. Being baptized into Christ is having the word and promise of God given to you in the waters of baptism. His word of promise, His Name being put on you in baptism, gives you the forgiveness of sins and gives you the Holy Spirit. It is the word of promise to you that makes it a "Spirit baptism." You are the anointed (made an anointed one, a Christian)
Jesus said, "My words are Spirit, and they are Life." It is His word that makes the waters a baptism, a being born of water and Spirit.
Look at creation. The Spirit hovered over the waters.
Look at Jesus' baptism, the Spirit decended as a dove and remained on Him, and the Father spoke calling Him His Son (Right in those waters) that was a Spirit baptism We receive the Spirit being baptized into the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In those waters, you died with the Son, given the Spirit and united with the Father in the Son.
This is why Peter said, "Baptism now saves us."
We have a direct word given to us in Baptism, and this is God's work in washing us.
We our saved:
Titus 3:5 NKJV
[5] not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, (in baptism)
We in baptism died with Christ, clothed ourselves with Christ, have a righteous answer giving us a good conscience, sealed till the Day, united with God through the Son of His Love.
If you have His sure word of promise then it doesn't matter how shaky your confidence is, you have faith. Faith is the sure word given.
If I told you, "Believe me, sit in the chair, and it will hold you."
What would faith do? Now, it sounds like there's three things happening there, but there's really only one.
It sounds like
1. Believe
2. Sit
3. You are held by the power of the chair
But really, there is only the power of the chair at work. Let me demonstrate.
Say you don't fulfill the first condition. To "Believe." So, you say, "I don't believe you." But you still sit.
Here's my argument, if you sit, then you truly believe. The sitting was faith in action. It didn't matter what level of faith or unbelief you thought you were bringing. The chair was either going to hold you or not hold you based on the strength of the chair itself and not on the measure of your faith. The chair did everything. It wasn't asking anything from you. So I didn't need to use the word believe; I could have just said, "Sit in the chair. It will hold you."
Notice: Peter didn't use the word "believe." He said repent... but repent here is addressing those asking for something to do; and they are Jews, those who do the law. Peter's "Repent" was to tell them not to do because salvation isn't by works of righteousness which we have done. "Repent!" meant to turn from their dead works and BE BAPTIZED, be washed, be done unto.
What if you don't sit? Then your unbelief kept you from the comfort of the chair, it's strength will not benefit you in the least, even if you say, "I have faith. I believe the chair will hold me, " but yet you don't sit in the chair. Then your actions are resisting the offer of the chair and are in unbelief.
Now all illustrations fail, but my point is that, to be baptized is to believe, is to be united to Christ in His death and resurrection, and is- a being kept by the power of God, given His Spirit.
Paul said to the Philippian Jailer believe on the Lord Jesus Christ you and your household will be saved. Was he telling him to just really believe it's true in his thinking? Maybe pray a prayer or something? No. He and all his household were baptized.
"All who call on the Name of the Lord shall be saved"
This is how the Apostle Paul called on the name of the Lord and was saved; it wasn't by the Damascus Road experience. He called Jesus "Lord", he fasted and prayed for 3 days. But none of that washed away his sins. None of that kind of faith saved him. It was when he was baptized for this is a "Calling on the Name of the Lord".
As Paul was told by Ananias,
"And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’"
Acts 22:16 NKJV
"All who call on the Name of the Lord shall be saved"
Sorry, this is so long, but I wanted to give a better understanding, and perhaps good theology doesn't always fit on a bumper sticker.
