    Grant, to get that dent out of the rim edge, use 2 small sludge hammers. Hold one hammer head on the dent in the rim. Hit that hammer with the other hammer. This method insures the force of the blow goes to the dent. The dent pops back out against the tire. 3 pound sludge hammers should work. My dad taught me that trick. We restore John Deere 2 Cylinder tractors in my area Sometimes the rims on these old tractors have a few dents in the rim edge and that is how we get the dents out. I really enjoy watching your videos. The videos are really interesting to see how farms operate out there in the Midwest.

    497K subscribers! So Close! Write down the drain plug size next to it with permanent marker. Same with all frequently used bolts and nuts. Saves you time. Also, for example, write in your phone list app all the tools and sizes you use to change a tire on a pivot. That way you know what tools to put in the 4-wheeler.

    It's wonderful to see that you both take the time to maintain your equipment after harvest. At our farm my wife thinks the season is over as soon as harvest ends and I should have the entire winter time to do that service stuff. She doesn't care much about the dirty work. More than once some of the equipment are still unserviced when planting season starts. There will always be something more urgent unless you do that stuff immediately!

    The little rubber things that got worn off of the new tires are called casting sprues. Enjoy watching your videos. Thanks.

    • @garywilt76
      @garywilt76 11 месяцев назад +5

      Correct. They are caused by "vent spews" in the tire mold. Uncured rubber is injected into the mold under pressure. To allow any entrapped air between the mold and the rubber, small holes are drilled into the metal mold. This prevents air bubbles or blisters on the tire.

    What a pleasant surprise to see your latest post on a Sunday afternoon. I so look forward to all of your posts where I get to see two other midwestern farmers doing very familiar things. You two are the best; and you remind me of farming with my late wife one state to the southeast of you in Missouri.

    There are a lot of "Wanta Be's" out there, but you and Grant are Thee Only True Farm Show on the Net. Your filming is to the point in expertise and ability. The rest of the crowd falls short in the ruts of your watering towers. Glad to see you've leveled them out for another season. You ROCK ! Keep on - keeping on. 🙂

    I have followed and enjoyed you both from almost the beginning of your channel! Just a suggestion, when you're working on the various equipment, particularly "underneath," PLEASE consider wearing safety glasses! Protect those pretty green eyes Laura (and Grant too), I can guarantee, you can't replace those "parts" at the John Deere parts counter!

    • @scots_knight4706
      @scots_knight4706 11 месяцев назад +1

      Speaking as a farmer I'm afraid safety is rather stupidly the last thing many of my fellow farmers think of.
      Despite many women being involved it's still a very macho industry and safety is for softies 🥲
      Not entirely 100% true for everyone but very much when push comes to shove at busy times.
      I was more concerned she wasn't wearing a dust mask whilst cleaning the filter as dust is a major problem.
      I can't say I've ever seen a mechanic or farmer using safety glasses for a service myself.
      Having needed eye surgery myself after an accident, I'd say you've given me something to think about.
      Greetings from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇬🇧

    Hi Laura and Grant. I enjoyed today's vlog and agree that the maintenance is every bit as important as the harvesting itslef. I have to admit Laura that I was surprised when you said you screamed very loudly at the sight of the mouse in the shops bathroom. A life long farm girl such as yourself should be very used to rodents, it made me laugh. That air filter cleaner your dad got you is very cool. In other vlogs when I've watched you or Grant blowing out the filter I often thought they shoulld have someting just like that device ... and now I see they do and didn't know it. Pretty cool and does a much better job. Have a great week ahead you two. Take care. Larry, Central Valley, Ca.

    If you have a slow leak, you can always put some windshield washer fluid in it, down south, we would just say water, but where you live, you need the anti-freeze! Love you guys mean it! ❤ I didn’t know anything about a modern tractor until I watch this show, now I know that tractor weighs approximately 28,000 pounds, I also know the hydraulics on the rear are designed to pick up 29,750 pounds. See what you’ve done to me! 😂

    I don't know if you have one, if not you might want to get one.
    Port-A-Power
    There are several attachments that go with it.
    A Port-A-Power could push that bend out without much effort.
    btw The bucket can be pushed back into shape, pretty much. Get it good and warm first, it's much softer and easier to "fix". I know, it's just a bucket. Buckets are expensive though.
