To answer your long unanswered goldfish queries, your pets died because the chemicals used to treat tap water are unsafe for freshwater fish and will kill them within a few days. Aerators are not needed but are recommended and the myth of a goldfish that lives in a bowl with little effort or care required is tremendously false. Goldfish can live to be over 40 years old in really good hands. Most people do not have good hands. Hands are strange anyway. We hold forks with them.

fishtnk rules for beginners: 1.get a filter to help keep your water clean and, if the water isn't moving, your fish will suffocate basically, for a few different reasons ranging from protein film to poor gill flow (un'ess you are keeping betta, they can survive in a bowl if you change the water weekly, they have a labrinth organ and can breathe air, the bubbles they spit on the surface is their nest! that is where they would put eggs if they were to breed)and 2. heater (unless you are ONLY doing goldfish/carp/koi as they do not need a heater but p much all tropical freshwater fish do) 3. treat all water that goes into the fish habitat with stress coat water conditioner to protect the fish' slime coat and help break down their waste so it doesnt go through a process that turns it into toxins. only feed what fish eat in 20 seconds-1 minute and always look up eat species needs and if you have enough room (5 inches of fish per gallon) before adding them to your community. -petsmart/co fishtank lady

    • @irtheLeGiOn
      @irtheLeGiOn 4 года назад +3

Goldfish don't suffocate. Without any type of turbulence on the surface of the water the nitrification process does not occur. Without the nitrification process ammonia builds up to toxic levels and ultimately poisons the Goldfish. Since Goldfish produce substantially more ammonia than other comparable aquarium fish toxic levels build up faster.

The reason why people experience coffee jitters is that coffee should be taken with food, specifically some form of carbohydrate or sugar. Coffee increases the metabolism, but if you haven't eaten anything, it will trigger a stress response. Coffee also increases adrenaline and makes you lose sodium from the body. High adrenaline will make you pee very often. Salt lowers adrenaline.
You can probably see why eating little food and drinking lots of coffee is a bad idea. I used to get coffee jitters, but I fixed it after I stumbled upon Ray Peat.

Hey Peter! This was one of my favorite content free podcasts of yours! 😃 I had LASIK surgery about 12 years ago. My eyes were VERY bad (prescription was -8.5 in left eye and -9 in right!) beforehand. I was shocked to be able to see PERFECTLY almost right away after the surgery. I didn't have much of a problem with dry eyes after that but I did have a lot of the "starburst effect" with lights, like headlights, but only when driving at night. It's very common and never bothered me much, but I do wear glare-cutting glasses to drive at night that remove the starburst effect. Unfortunately, I am due for slight tuneup (that happens with almost everyone eventually) and it would be free, since they offer lifetime tuneups, but I recently went for a consultation and now that I need reading glasses too (I am a couple of decades older than you😆) they said if I got them fixed again for distance, I would then need prescription glasses (not just reading ones) to see close up. So for now I am going to pass. Hoping some new technology comes around for people like me....but I say if you can, do it! The prices have really come down since I got it done, and it's totally worth it, in my opinion. Waking up in the morning with perfect vision is a glorious thing. 👍🏻

A little late but, you can buy insulated flannel shirts with hoods and they usually have buttons or snaps. I live in MN and always loved the cozy flannels my mother-in-law would get me for Christmas. I believe they were usually purchased from a farm store like Fleet Farm.

Oddly enough, and I was thinking and I realised you were actually one of my biggest inspiration to start drawing to get away from the nasty emotions and thoughts my old school was putting into my head. This then encouraged me to apply to this new school. So thank you!!

Not sure if anyone else responded about the Goldfish already but.. You had it all on the tip of your tongue kind of... Yes, the water needs regular treatment & changing, as well as filtration & oxygenation from filters/pumps. The air bubbles do (somehow) get absorbed into the water & help keep the water from going stagnant. Great stories, thanks for sharing!

My dog ran away. 😥 He got scared because a man fell down on the street next to us. He has ppl fobia. He was so scared that he almost ripped off my harm. I have been looking for him since the 11th. It feels like someone that depends on me is missing. It really really sucks. I miss him so much! Although he is big and 40kg, he's just 1yr and half. He's just a big baby and he hates ppl and noises that he doesn't know. I will keep looking but every day that goes by i feel more desperate and i feel i won't ever see Icon again. I hate that i don't know how he's doing. 😥 well, this is what's going on with me.

I always broke my prismacolor pencils until I watched a video from an art store explaining that sharpening in the traditional way rattles the lead around too much and thus the breaking. They said to hold the pencil in your non-dominant hand, and the sharpener in your dominant one, turning the sharpener instead of the pencil. My pencils don't break anywhere near as much anymore.

I love coffee. What I do is make a big pot, 1/2 reg + 1/2 decaf. What I find is the acid in the coffee gets my stomach upset so if you drink something or eat first you don't have that.
    - Only you with a warm butt would FIRST think, "Did I pee myself"? LOL.....
    - A duvet is like a pillow case for the quilted comforter, it opens, it keeps the comforter clean. I don't make my bed either, only when I change the sheets. I do toss the covers back in place.
    - Yes, the bubbler puts air into the water. The tap water probably killed the fish. It has to be slowly acclimated to the temp and be chlorine free.

In De-caffinated coffee they can usually remove up to 99,9% caffeine, even though some brands only remove 70-80% but its done by roasting the been in a different way and using a solvent on the beans when they're still green, googled it some days ago because i didnt know how they removed caffeine from coffee either.

Prismacolors are wax based colored pencils. The reason they break so easily is a combination of factors, the soft points being just the smallest portion of the problem. Berol, who made the prismas when they were inequivicably the unchallenged Best sold the Prisma line to the company who now owns them. The company now doesn't care if the leads are properly centered, causing them to break easier during sharpening. There have been issues with warping of the pencils as well. The "lead" itself is still soft and lays down beautifully, but as you mentioned, they break horribly. I have lost entire brand new pencils to breakage. It is so frustrating!

Actually you are mostly right, microscopic amounts of oxygen get trapped in the water as the bubbles rise up through it. This is key in any fish tank or bowl, because as fish breath they take oxygen out of the water, if that oxygen isn't replaced by the water being agitated, it's like having the air sucked out of a room. They literally suffocate.

Peter, the best pencil sharpener I ever got was a Dahle one. It has a crank like the one you're talking about. And it's a bit hard to explain but it has this wall with a hole that comes out and grabs the pencil and pulls it. So that way you don't have to shove the pencil in there, you can just crank with one hand. There's also a little switch on there that lets you sharpen the pencil to a duller, thicker point. I've never used it but maybe it's good for... shading big areas or something?

You used tap water?! No wonder the fish died!! You need to use these special drops to de-chlorinate the water so the fish can breathe it. 🤦‍♂️

Bubbles can partiacly dissolve in the water, spreading oxigen :) As far as we know, gravity is the weaker of four sisters that are equally insisting, and the one that keeps buildings up or your roof above your head is actually the repulsiveness force between atoms, the eletromagnetic force.

So I just drink one good cup of black coffee in the morning and then drink A LOT of thee and water throughout the day.

tiny air bubbles, like super tiny get trapped in the water, the pressure above the bubbles is too strong for them to escape, since they're super tiny.
