My internet drops connection all the time and like clock work on Sunday evening it’ll go down. It’s so frustrating when virgin say there isn’t any problems
If it's at exactly the same time every week, it might be worth checking that none of your devices are scheduled to do something at that time, which might be triggering the problem. Aside from that, when it happens again, start with a restart of the router and go from there.
Thanks for making this vid. Still relevant in 2023. this help me sort out my issue whe. Virgin techs were giving me rhetorical bs and scratching their heads. Thank you so much.
I had the same problem which was not resolved by a hard reset. It seems to be an inherent fault with the Hub-3, as even after an engineer changed it for a new one, the WiFi kept going off for no reason. However on a second engineer visit another new Hub3 was installed and this (after a couple of days) is working fine. The engineer said that the most recent batch of hubs had cured the fault. So if you WiFi stops working and nothing you can do cures it, insist on a brand new Hub. Mine is a TG2492LG-VM with a MAC address beginning with AC, which the engineer said was the most recent version.

Excellent advice! I was about to play around with my router until your comment about checking your postcode online. Lo and behold, service was down in my area. I just sat back and waiting and an hour later like magic everything came back. Brilliant video. Thank you
Thanks! - I’m paying for 600mbs speeds with VM, but recently in the last 2/3 weeks or so, it wasn’t even getting above 100! I reset the router as you suggested, & now it’s back up to much higher speeds..thanks :-) 👍🏻
The speed you get has nothing to do with your router, the service speed is set by VirginMedia and although it may well be advertised as 600Mbps, they have a MINIMUM they state they can supply to meet the contract. That could be as lot as 100Mbps. What you are experiencing is too many users using too much data for the VM system in your area to handle at certain times, once this happens they throttle user data and reduce speeds so everyone gets a share of the total bandwidth. By the time you have noticed and then rest your router for no apparent reason, less people are on and speeds return to closer to what you expect. If you are doing speed tests via WiFi, forget that, it is not a reliable way of testing and you are also combining the WiFi speed within the website speed test. You need to plug a computer in tot he router via a cable and do a speed test, but depending on the time of day, the results will be very different.

The best thing I ever did was get my own WiFi router, I put my hub 3 into modem mode and I've had no problems since. The hub 3 uses an incredibly crap chipset that has known to have issues. Basically every VM router after the hub 2 is crap, signal drops, speed drops, kicking many connected devices off the WiFi. Anyway, I'm on the m200 and I'm getting 218DL and 20UL so I'm well happy.
You know how we actually solve the problem? We all team together and make a petition to have virgin media be banned by regulators in the UK for providing such abysmal service. You know, just like what happened with their trains. They’re an awful sociopathic conning company.
The 3.0 Hub is the issue due to them using Intel Chips Processors which tends to cause so much problems with Connectivity and WiFi Dropping out because the Processor is like a computers ram once it maxes out at 100% u start to see issues in performance however the HUB 4 HUB 5 and 5 Plus/Pro can’t remember as the plus or pro is this latest one but I do have the HUB 5 which comes with WIFI 6 and it’s fantastic in speeds and range
I also forgot to mention Sky Router has this issue as well this is due to these companies being very cheap with the products. But these outdated routers in general and those that support WPA2/PSK are outdated when it comes to security. if your fed up of getting these routers please do some research into WiFi 6 routers.however Virgin media do provide way better routers however getting router that’s up to date tends to help 9/10 and u could also put the Virgin media router into modem mode and use any router of your choice
Hi i have Virgin , terrible had to beg an engineer for new router to try, had new router a little improvement, bet still dead, should getting 500mbps My 3900x pc connected lan 95 mpbs and i have super hub 3 gave you a sub, and they said same speed issues, in my aerea , which aerea 24 thanks for the vdieo
Here's my solution::: I used to suffer from all these issues but not anymore. I have 10+ smart devices that need constant Wi-Fi connection, so a disconnection for no reason proved painful. VM routers are inferior and rubbish; If you don’t believe me, dissect one up and check out the components. If you want to have a frustration-free internet connection and actually get what you’re paying for, then do what I did. Get yourself another router, eg an ASUS, TP-LINK or whatever brand you prefer. Turn your VM router into a modem and connect it to the other router. Job done! I now have a stable and constant connection with no breaks.
@@LucidComputerSolutions I'm having issues with the SSID showing up on any new devices I'd like to connect. The WiFi is fine on current devices, but I cannot connect anything new because the SSID won't show up. SSID is turned on. Do you have any solutions?
The two sided arrow on my Virgin Router is flashing green, does this means it’s updating? It’s 2am so it would make sense or does that mean it’s faulty?
I had to leave virgin media as they always had high utilisation. I noticed, every time I went onto RUclips it would buffer a lot more than it did on sky. Sucks because it was fast when I first got it, but then utilisation was slowing it down so much that it was unusable
Lucid Computer Solutions I have to admit though, if virgin media sorted out their utilisation issue, I would move back straight away. It’s been going on since 2014.
my internet started disconnecting 4 days ago and it happens more and more, I hard reset the hub 3 tens of times and the issue is not resolved. What do you think? is it the hub that's faulty or something digital?
Virgin media replaced my super hub five due to kept disconnecting the new super hub 5 factory settings keeps reverting back to the old box said and password even tho this is a new box why would this keep happening when I’ve factory reset just reverts back to old settings
The key here is to run speed tests on different devices if you're able to. If they all come back with the same slow result, then it would be worth contacting Virgin support for assistance.
I have around 250 download and 60 upload which I’m not bothered about it’s great but everytime I play a game it’s unplayable and laggy it says no packet loss and it shows the ping at around 10 so I don’t understand why it’s so poor
So basically 8 minutes of blathering just to say run the Virgin website test diagnostics at the end? Judging by the background this was more an exercise in advertising your business than offering any real solutions :)
Au contraire, this video is all about explaining my own thought process and things I did to overcome problems with my own Virgin connection. If it helps just one person (judging by the overall positive feedback, it has), then my work here is done. Thanks for the feedback.
One month without service, no compensation. I left VM as Internet provider and I still waiting an answer about that, I did the claim but the answer was a Default Notice Waring for the financial conduct authority. Who's protect my rights?
I don't know about your rights, but I know each time I've called Virgin Media, I've got through to someone to help me. I suggest giving them a call again.
I have a similar issue but I don't see the green light. I can be using my phone and the WiFi locks up. At times if I wait it reconnects but I can speed up the process by switching to 2.4 if I am using 5 and vice versa. I really don't want a superhub3 as I hear to many bad things about them. Any suggestions? Regards Andy T
Hmmmmm I wonder if it is your phone upsetting the Super Hub. My thoughts are to ensure your phone is using the latest software avaliable to it. You would try putting all of your devices except the phone onto the 5G network, and then just put your phone on its own on the 2.4 network.
I'm having an issue, drops all the time, kids say it lags, only changed to virgin cause it was supposed to be the latest thing and offered me a deal which I never ended up getting but the customer service is bad I can't face ringing them. Wish I'd stayed with talktalk 😢
My advice is to try and persist with talking to Virgin support until they fix it for you. Sadly, the customer service not being great, is something I hear a fair bit.
Could you show how to do the auto fix thing on the website because I have a green light flashing with a green WiFi sign above and I cant fix it I've turned it on and off and factory reset it
I went V6 box, replaced TiVo , installed OK after admin glitch , Virgin Media would not replace my Superhub 2ac router despite promising it in the deal .. they reneged .. left with old modem .. yeah it runs ok except for 2.4 ghz signals up and down ... considering a Tp link Archer C7 ... at my expense .. only to improve signal ..be aware ..
I had a superhub 2 connected to my windows 10 worked fine. I've taken out a new separate contract (as it was around half the price as my existing one) so they've sent a hub 3 to me. I'm told I have to use this new hub and can't simply continue with my superhub. I've connected the hub 3 up and my Android phone picks up the wifi fine, Internet works fine. My windows PC however can't connect to it. They are connected by ethernet but I'm getting no Internet on the PC. The PC doesn't even seem to recognise the hub. Theres just no option to interact with it. It's not visible when I go into internet settings. On my laptop its slightly different, it can find the hub3 as a network and it can connect to it via WiFi. However when I try to search the Internet on the laptop it doesn't work. So essentially I don't have the Internet on the laptop. I've spoken with virgin, having been on hold for a few hours and they insist the issue is with my PC and laptop. If this is the case then why did the PC and laptop work fine with the superhub2? It's driving me crazy. Atrocious customer service
We have continuous issues with virgin media wi-fi. It’s always down every time they come in their van “fixing” the green boxes. I’ve turned it off and on pulled wires and still lots of issues
At 3:07 the problem with the WiFi is not related to the supply of service to your home. You can still connect to a WiFi router even if it is not connected to anything. The problem with the WiFi is between your device and router, it would still connect even if you had no broadband available, it would just say "no internet" on any page you went to. It sounds like a fault with the router or VM network again. So you have not really identified the problem have you? How many times would it or should it need a factory reset? What is causing the problem? It's a bit much to expect to have to keep checking and resetting. If the service checker stated there was no problem after connecting by mobile phone using 4G/5G, and you had "no connection" or "no service" to/via the VirginMedia Router, their system would not be able to contact the router, so the problem at VirginMedia would still exist. Why is their service not detecting faults in their own system? I would certainly not put up with paying for a service I was not getting, no wonder they can get away with poor network management and substandard service. They are probably using network shaping and cutting off service to heavy users at peak hours, only restoring once complaints are logged.
The problem discussed in the video does relate to the overall service - as the lights on the router show that it's unable to sync to the service or connect up to the Internet.
If you use the superhub in modem mode with a separate WiFi router it seems to have less issues, either it struggles to handle wifi and modem or an overheating issue?
By the way theres no problem in my area, and i have tried the usual things, rebooting, checking connections,. It could an overheating prob. Again would appreciate any advice
Hi. Great that you’ve taken the time to make this video, but how can you check your status online and initiate setups when you have no internet lol? Asking for a friend. 😂👍🏻
He also stated that it was the wifi dipping in and out, not the internet connection so anything hardwired will work! I have this very same issue! WiFi is unstable but the wired connections are fine! I’m wondering if a wired WiFi booster would help!? (not a virgin one)
Have you ever had to use the boosters provoded by virgin? Its supposed to be powerline but it seems to work by picking up wifi. Problem with this is i cant get wifi from the superhub from my room and so the booster connection i get is 12 up 10 down when the speed we pay for and get on the main hub is 300mb down and 50mb up.
I've not used Virgin boosters, so I couldn't comment there. What might be better is for you to explore installing your own Wifi network using either good quality access points or a mesh system.
@lucid computer solutions. A question please if you can help at all???? My virgin broadband is the M100 and router hub 3.0. My teenager games on xbox 1X upstairs in his room and has been complaining of lagging. We also have had problems on Zoom meetings and classes having poor connection. Other devices using wifi are smart tv, alexa dots, phones, tablets and a laptop. To improve this should I do the following: 1. Upgrade broadband with Virgin. 2. Get another router and set hub 3.0 on modem mode, but keep M100 broadband. 3. Do I have to do both a broadband upgrade in combination with an extra router to keep 4 people in the household happy on the various wifi devices?
It's hard to tell without seeing/testing the setup. The thing you need to be clear on first, is do you slow Internet, or is it simply a Wifi problem? Easiest way to test to begin with is to do a Speed Test of your Internet, using a laptop which is connected via a network cable, with nothing else turned on/connected at the time.
also what will be the best ethernet cable to use ?I see alot of different ones do they do different things and enable different speeds or does it not matter?
Yes, you do. There's lots to choose from, but using a good, solid branded router from the likes of TP Link or Netgear, alongside your Virgin hub in modem only mode, would be a good move.
I have a problem where my internet doesn’t connect to my virgin tv box however my internet is working fine but the arrow on the tv box are whit and flashing
We have had Virgin for 3 months, and they are absolute crap. It is pot luck which devices work, or if we get any service at all. I spend more time on the phone trying to sort it out than using the internet. I am about to start the process of trying to get out of the contract. Any tips would be useful. If push comes to shove I will go to another provider, and sort it out in the small claims court, because we can’t go on like this.
I got Virgin Media last Thursday and I have noticed issues already with it. The speeds are great but bandwidth is shit I am hard-wired to the router witch sit's on my desk i getting spikes of high pings to servers that last for hours 2 3 hundred. My daughters are reporting slow speeds up stars too. I actually had to turn off the 2.4 ghz band so they can get internet. Not happy with Virgin!
Probably a bad move on our part but we were forced to switch to Virgin! They are due to install tomorrow (Saturday 26th June). I hear lots about how bad superhub wifi is, we are planning to grab a decent router and switch to modem mode. BT let us down, we were loyal customers for over two decades. Were there when DSL was new to consumers. Any advice about which decent modem to grab? We are looking at Netgear and Asus.
There's plenty to choose from, and depends on your budget as well. If you need something cheaper, consider something from TP Link, if you have a little more to spend consider a Netgear Nighthawk.
I just got new router the hub 3 and whatever i tried its just no internet its says conected but no internet i bought 2 second hand hub 2 and same problem just no internet i tried everithing but strange is that if i conect my old router from 2014 from upc it work but the new one its not any idea?
10 months ago so you have prob sorted the issue, but when I went to 200 I had same issues and it ended up being the ethernet I was using. Was too long. Swapped it out and the packet loss was sorted, smooth gaming.
it’s not working, i have a hub 3.0 and nothing is working, i tried the factory reset and turning it off and on. i dont know my virgin home number so the customer service wont help me, can anyone give me some advice?
If you push Virgin support, they should be able to help based on either your account number (should be in an email when they send you a bill), or based on your home address

If someone (particularly someone you don't know) is telling you that your IP has been leaked, they are probably using jargon to scare you into offering you help, at which point, they'll try and scam you somehow. The IP adress of your computer on your home network is private, and it doesn't matter if someone outside has it, as it's only accessible to other devices wired to your router or on your wifi. If someone has your public IP, that's also fine, it's just the address that your router has when connecting to the internet to talk to Virgin's ISP servers which forward all traffic to and from your router. Your router has a built in firewall and won't accept unsolicited packets and hackers don't crack into random people's routers, it's too much hard work for too little gain. On top of this, you most likey have a connection type where your Internet facing IP changes reasonably regularly anyway. So don't worry. Your IP address being "leaked" doesn't actually mean anything at all. :)
3 to 4 reboots every week is not acceptable and the last thing you did i keep doing nothing works 16 years customer nothing but problems with hub 5 and 1 gig connection its rubbish from 4 till about 11 onwards every night 3 complaints to vm and still the same latency and jitter way too high its useless sadly for VM and O2 no more contracts for me 10 relatives having the same so all will be looking for another provider as for the exposed wiring mess outside is a real reflection of VM handy work.
FYI you don't actually pay anything for WiFi from any is you pay for broadband meaning a wired connection. Allspice send you a free router so yes it's not going to be the best everyone soe using a 3rd party router in my opinion fixes nearly all issues . Would recommend one with WiFi 6
I have a weird issue, got a ew hub installed yesterday added a couple devices (phone, Xbox) then I went to add the alexa and my Nintendo Switch but they both cant connect to the network... just gives an error when it tried to connect. @@LucidComputerSolutions HI, so we tried splitting the bands and still had no luck, the issue is resolved now though! The issue was a power fluctuation fault in the Hub causing the wifi to drop out and not allow any more than 3 connections at once which is odd but can't argue with the results.
Lucid please could you recommend a TP Link Router for a larger home with quite a few people on the wi-fi and two heavy use PC Gamers and are there any settings that could stop Virgin capping the connection speed ? Many Thanks 🙏
The issue is. I use to be in the UK for vacation so we have a house there with virgin media. I'm a tech intern for a ISP in america. The routers in the UK from ISP's are not made to game. There made for light use. They don't have enough resources to travel packets at a much faster rate. And this is due to the Virgin media Cutting down cost on the internal specs of the router. I'm pretty sure if they had an intel powered router or a better chip it would perform much better. But until then UK routers will be slow unless you buy your own. This is why your internet will drop when you game most of the time.
I kind of see what you're getting at, I think if people are able, some will benefit from the route being in modem only mode, and then using their own router beyond that.
@@LucidComputerSolutions Yes indeed. Because I don't know what it is with the UK and ISP routers. But in the USA ISPs seem to also have just a tiny bit better ISP routers. The UK telecoms seem to lack in ISP routers and gateway's. However some companies are soon improving it as 1gbps reaches you guys.
Hope someone can help. Recently moved from a superhub 2 to superhub 3. On the 2 I was able to select either 2.4 or 5ghz when searching for WiFi. With the superhub 3 it doesn't give me the options it just has 1 connection. I want to be able to have that control back. How can I do this
For some reason my wifi just doesnt get above 5mb speeds daily and at this point I've more or less done everything there is to do, at this point it just feels like a waste of money. Obviously at the moment its flooded because of the quarantine as everyone's at home but it's no different to normal.
The important thing to be clear on, is it your WiFi speeds which are the issue, or your actual Internet speed? Best way to test actual Internet speed is using a network cable directly into the router via a laptop.
Sadly that's a common theme, in many areas you'll get something like 500Mbps from Virgin, whereas any other provider can only provider something 25Mbps.
I set m y super hub 3 to modem mode and then used a Google / Nest mesh to solve most of the problems - which it did..... for about 8 months, now i get a disconnection for around 5 seconds every 2-3 hours. It drives me insane as my house alarm, CCTV and various other devices kick off send me notifications. Just upgraded to Superhub 4 and Gig 1, lets see what change that makes.
Should have explained better where on virgin medias website this so called magic fix is. I have looked everywhere under service status and can't find anything. All i can see is run test and thats it and i doubt that resets everything outside your home.
I've got a virgin superhub 2ac and I share the internet with my family. I want to prioritize my Xbox one because I am the only one that plays multiplayer games and has to deal with games kicking me out of games which is really frustrating, especially as a streamer and content creator. Any way to do that? I would like a way to just prioritize all of the device's bandwidth? Is this possible? I'm a noob with stuff like this lol.
Doing that with just the Superhub, from my memory, isn't possible. What you could do is get yourself a router with this feature, and use it alongside your Superhub in modem only mode.

1. What can i do with latency HORIBBLE as ... All the time, speed is fine, but connection is jumping to the sky without any reason. 2.
I think their service, based on my experience isn't very reliable.
They won't let me sign in, say they don't recognize either my password or username... won't let me get through on phone
Good man, thank you
Thanks for doing this video very helpful and sorted my problem out 👌

Do you have any solutions?
The two sided arrow on my Virgin Router is flashing green, does this means it’s updating? It’s 2am so it would make sense or does that mean it’s faulty?
That sounds like it's struggling to connect to me
I had to leave virgin media as they always had high utilisation. I noticed, every time I went onto RUclips it would buffer a lot more than it did on sky. Sucks because it was fast when I first got it, but then utilisation was slowing it down so much that it was unusable
I agree with you about the speed, at the end of the day, you need to what works for you - if Sky works better for you, then this would make sense.
What do you think? is it the hub that's faulty or something digital?
its the worst boardband in the whole uk
Virgin media replaced my super hub five due to kept disconnecting the new super hub 5 factory settings keeps reverting back to the old box said and password even tho this is a new box why would this keep happening when I’ve factory reset just reverts back to old settings
Thankyou!! Keep up the good work
No problem at all, have a good evening.

There's no scripts and no links to Virgin Media here, just trying to help people out! Thanks for your input.
I’m updating rainbow on my. Xbox and it says 330 kbps when I’m paying for 300 mbps!
Same here
The key here is to run speed tests on different devices if you're able to. If they all come back with the same slow result, then it would be worth contacting Virgin support for assistance.
Yeah because MS download servers are shite
Lucid Computer Solutions they don’t, so I’m thinking it’s my Xbox? Recently it has gone up to around 25 - 35 mbps
Mine keeps flashing green what does that mean?
Same
I have around 250 download and 60 upload which I’m not bothered about it’s great but everytime I play a game it’s unplayable and laggy it says no packet loss and it shows the ping at around 10 so I don’t understand why it’s so poor
My sons get this, did you sort out problem?
So basically 8 minutes of blathering just to say run the Virgin website test diagnostics at the end? Judging by the background this was more an exercise in advertising your business than offering any real solutions :)
Au contraire, this video is all about explaining my own thought process and things I did to overcome problems with my own Virgin connection. If it helps just one person (judging by the overall positive feedback, it has), then my work here is done. Thanks for the feedback.
Was going to say the same thing.
I have a virgin media booster. Do you know i can make separate ssid for the booster and hub so i can connect to either one i want? Thanks

Could you show how to do the auto fix thing on the website because I have a green light flashing with a green WiFi sign above and I cant fix it I've turned it on and off and factory reset it
I've got exactly the same. Did u manage to fix or did someone come out?

I also found that they went down too much, hence I moved away from them.
I'd agree with that, which is what we do for business networks.
I actually love you,you beautiful man hope you have a great life
That's probably the nicest comment I've ever had!
My Broadband never works properly but its the fastest so stay with them, soon as they get competition i'm leaving.
That's my thoughts exactly.
By the way theres no problem in my area, and i have tried the usual things, rebooting, checking connections,. It could an overheating prob. Again would appreciate any advice
Sounds like your router might be the issue, have you contacted Virgin to ask them to send you a replacement to try?
@@LucidComputerSolutions Hi yes I have thank you, I have my new router wishing you a blessed day 🙏
Hi. Great that you’ve taken the time to make this video, but how can you check your status online and initiate setups when you have no internet lol? Asking for a friend. 😂👍🏻
A completely valid question - when it happened to me, I used my mobile phone.
Lucid Computer Solutions did not realise you could setup from a phone, great thank you 😊
He also stated that it was the wifi dipping in and out, not the internet connection so anything hardwired will work!
To improve this should I do the following:
Any standard Ethernet cable will be just fine - you pick one up on Amazon for a few pounds.
Do you get a better experience putting the super hub in modem mode and using your own router? Great vid mate, thanks
Yes, you do. There's lots to choose from, but using a good, solid branded router from the likes of TP Link or Netgear, alongside your Virgin hub in modem only mode, would be a good move.

What about issues with the windows 10 VPN not connecting when connected to virgin media broadband, any help on that?
That's a possible future video.
Sounds like your having a terrible time, so quite honestly, sounds like you'd be better off with a different provider.

Is there anyway to change my IP address on the super hub as my IP has been leaked...
If you mean your public IP, you will need to speak to Virgin if you're not on a dynamic IP.
@@LucidComputerSolutions I tried messaging them but they said they can't change it?
Wired for me works perfectly, but wirelles every 5-10 minutes not working!☹️
Get on to Virgin and get them to ship you a new router!
Uhmm! Similar got problem with wifi stealing issues with neighbour with other provider like bt. Very annoying!
FYI you don't actually pay anything for WiFi from any is you pay for broadband meaning a wired connection. Allspice send you a free router so yes it's not going to be the best everyone soe using a 3rd party router in my opinion fixes nearly all issues . Would recommend one with WiFi 6

Do you have just the one Wifi network, two (one for 2.4G, and another for 5G)? Could be that they're not compatible with one of the bands?
@@LucidComputerSolutions HI, so we tried splitting the bands and still had no luck, the issue is resolved now though! The issue was a power fluctuation fault in the Hub causing the wifi to drop out and not allow any more than 3 connections at once which is odd but can't argue with the results.

The important thing to be clear on, is it your WiFi speeds which are the issue, or your actual Internet speed? Best way to test actual Internet speed is using a network cable directly into the router via a laptop.
I would be careful resetting the router if you have your phone connected directly to the router as you have no control over the telephony ports.
Same here there are glitches but they provide the fastest internet, had sky they they are poor on internet speed in my area.
Sadly that's a common theme, in many areas you'll get something like 500Mbps from Virgin, whereas any other provider can only provider something 25Mbps.

Start with the basics - turn off the router, leave it off for 5 mins, then start it back up and see what you have.
VM routers are rubbish and no good. If you want to get your money's worth, get yourself another router like an ASUS or TP-LINK. Turn your VM router into a modem and connect it to the other router.
