It’s absolutely hilarious that, in order to escape theory, Ben played the second most popular move in the position after d3 according to Lichess. h5 has nearly 2000 online games and scores even better than the main line. He then move orders himself back into an even more popular sideline after Bc5.
I can guarantee you that Ben knows exactly what he's doing and is just pretending for comedic purposes. No way in a million years does anybody play h5 on a whim in that position.
@@sslivkov H5 is the most standard move in the stafford gambit in that position, it makes a lot of sense if u know the ideas. Im sure hes seen Erics video on it or he knew the basic ideas and found it cuz u know hes a GM.
That's my point, OP said that Ben was trying to get away from theory, but instead walked into the second most popular move on accident. I said that Ben pretends he doesn't know the theory for comedic purposes, when in fact he knows exactly what he's doing.
Ben is the best. I laughed for 10 minutes and still feel like I learned something; I haven't a clue as to what I learned but I know that I did learn something.
After saying he didn't know the Stafford theory, he masterfully played an aggressive out of order line of the Stafford which obliterated the opponents kings side and casting ability and discoordinated all their pieces.
He actually blundered the initiative with Rxg2 and the blundered the rook with Bg4 (Qxg2 wins now for white), his opponent just didn't see the right defensive moves. Terrible! lol
I've played stafford for six months and I'm still confused most of the time. but it doesn't seems to matter as almost no one seem to be able to keep the mess straight in their head. it's the deep dark forest tal talked about but there's no road out for either player. :D
if you are playing a played bellow 2000, a good move is nice, because it confuses them, because it doesnt see that its good, but if you play a 900 player you are better off playing the 2nd best move because they are probably not using the engine correctly.
truely, who plays the stafford besides ben? couldnt think of any popular chess tuber/streamer that would play that regularly sounds kinda insane if you think of it

There is literally no justification for eating animal products. Ethically they cause unnecessary harm. They are not needed for human survival so we do have that choice of not consuming them. I might know a guy who knows his way around the Stafford. Known for his vocal lamentation over regicide.

9:45 just casually sweeping the opponent's pieces off the board with a flick of his hand. man oh man, i have never seen that before
8:02 funnily premoving Rxg4 (anticipating Bxg4) misses the mate in one Nxc2# 😄
He plays Kd2 and you just blundered a piece.
I don't know the theory of this opening. Still theory, btw.
If Ben is making a chessable course, I look forward to buying it when it comes out. Go Ben, rawr!
Rosen put the Stafford on the map during the Pandemic beating everyone. But the chess world caught up!

Yes. Luckily for Ben, it's unrated and also his opponent blunders every move.
