    Morning from the N.E. United States! How I sow drosera seeds is I take a piece of WHITE paper and crease it in the middle. Put some seeds in that crease. Hold the end of the paper over the soil and GENTLY tap the paper while angling the paper so the seeds will slide down to the end and one by one fall into the soil. You can control how many drop and where they fall this way.
    My spatulatas are blooming right now. They too have REALLY tiny seeds by the thousands!

    what do you feed them? surely with that many plants you're not putting fish flakes on each leaf. ive heard that some people sprits them with some kind of liquid food, but ive also heard that doing that can give them too many nutrients and kill them.

    • @carnivorous_plant_girl
      @carnivorous_plant_girl  2 года назад +2

      Hi, I don’t feed any of my plants. They get plenty of insects themselves being in the greenhouse. I have done studies and experiments regarding low concentrations of high nitrogen fertilisers with various genera which I plan to make a video out of at a later date 😁

    I noticed in your video that you mentioned that some sundews have self pollinating flowers, Which ones are those ones?

    • @carnivorous_plant_girl
      @carnivorous_plant_girl  3 года назад +1

      There are many species of Drosera and many are self pollinating. Many sub-tropical species such as capensis, aliciae and spatulata are self pollinating plus some temperate species such as intermedia and filiformis. There is too many to list but there is usually lists found online for the self pollinating drosera

    So my drosera finished flowering about a week ago.
    The bottom flour pods have begun to turn brown but the top ones are still very much green.
    How long should I wait before I cut the flower stock off to dry it out?
    Also.... should I cut off the dying leaves at the bottom of the plant? Or just let them shrivel up? Thanks in advance

    • @carnivorous_plant_girl
      @carnivorous_plant_girl  Год назад

      Sorry for the delay in reply. You can either cut the whole flower stalk off when it goes brown or I will remove the bottom pods when they turn brown otherwise they often self seed everywhere. And yes I cut the bottom brown leaves off when they are finished

    Hi. I have the drosera and the two flower stalks that grew and all my original plants died. However, today I noticed two new sprouts with baby plants growing out. I'm going to cut off the dead plants but do I also need to cut the flower stalks too? They're so thick I feel like I'd be hurting it by cutting them. And if I do have to cut them, how far down do I cut?

    • @carnivorous_plant_girl
      @carnivorous_plant_girl  3 года назад +1

      If your plants have came from the flower stalk then I usually leave it on until it is completely dead and it’ll come away from the growing plants. However if you just want to cut it from a growing plant then just cut it just above the soil level without damaging the plants. However this is not needed either and you can leave it on as it does not take much energy from the plants. Hope this helps

      rizqi setiawan It depends on the species. Fresh subtropical species such as capensis can take as little as 2-3 weeks whereas temperate species will take longer because they need stratification first to germinate

    Hey, quick question.
    Ive carnivorous plant soil, but I dont have distilled water yet.
    Do you think it would work if I try to germinate Capensis, but with tap water instead?
    I would switch to distilled when they germinate.

    • @carnivorous_plant_girl
      @carnivorous_plant_girl  4 года назад +3

      Brenner Lima Hey, I would try to avoid tap water if possible. You can test your tap water with a ppm metre and if it’s under 100 you can use it. If you have or able to collect rain water that will work well too

    Hi I have some spatulatas and they flowered and I was waiting for some browsing on the pods and one day I go check them out and 🤔 the stem was half way gone. So I asked my son but he didn't do it. I have a cat and wonder if he munched (eat) on them but only ate the top half. Has this happened to anyone?
