Wish you had a better day on Bachelor, or should I say clearer day, that’s on my bucket list. But, hey this is a pretty awesome season so far. Mt. Baker is another bucket list for me up in Washington
thank you for calling it "packed powder"! That is definitely not considered "ice" in the ice coast. Ice is when the entire trail is just clear bulletproof such that you can see the grass underneath but it would take a drill with thousands of pound-feet of torque just to penetrate the surface.
Your cinematography is fantastic. It helps immerse us in your story. Would you consider doing a behind-the-scenes episode on your ski vlogs? It'd be cool to see the work you put in to tell the story.
As a medows local it’s super sweet to see a outsider’s perspective definitely weird to see it from your lens if you should definitely give it another try with better conditions
I was at meadows yesterday for a race and it was arguably one of the most dangerous days we've had. The race took out five of my teammates on the middle fork run for a GS course, including my brother, so major props to you for being able to send Heather Canyon whilst recording. My friend and I thought about doing it but decided against it because of the timing. Usually Mt. Hood has better conditions, it just so happened that everything was sorta iced out that day. Glad to see my home mountain get featured on your page, you have great stuff going on!
I have to say you picked some of the more difficult runs at Meadows for your first adventure here. Looked like everything was open that day, so I'm glad for you! You picked the right ski to use too.
Good call on turning back when your not completely comfortable! I got stuck in a tree well once and it was pretty scary! I could even hear a couple other skiers but they couldn’t hear me. Took me about 15 minutes to climb out! Thanks for the work you put into your videos Lucas! Late for work but had to watch this one!
Home sweet home right there! I spent my whole childhood learning and shredding that mountain. I wish the conditions could've been a little better for you!
@Lucas Catania thanks man! I consider myself pretty lucky! Love watching your vids, I haven't been able to ski much the past few years due to work but I'm able to live vicariously through you so thank you! I really hope to be able to do what you do someday! Much love brother!
I've heard so much about Mount Hood Meadows and it was so sick to see you send it through all that gnarly stuff!! That tree maneuvering tho 👁️🫦👁️ Say hi to Justin for me 😏
My man Lucas! So glad you came to meadows! I’ve been waiting for this video since the day I found your channel! Glad u had fun and overall liked meadows even thought the snow wasn’t the greatest. The private reserve area is definitely sick! Keep up all the great content! Can’t wait to see you continue your journey up thru the PNW & I’m so glad you stopped by meadows! You the man Lucas! Keep it up!
That’s my home mountain, hope you had a good time! My favorite terrain is in the trees on the Hood River Meadows side. I think I just barely missed seeing you there.
I know things never look as steep as they are on the camera and some of that looked STEEP! Great video... hoping for a blue bird day in your near future!
Great tree skiing.....good solo decent on gods wall.....the view of the summit is amazing I hope you will be there for some days so you can see it. Are you going to timberline tomorrow.....another great area....there's a small hut called silcox at the top of palmer lift. Again thank you for your hard work and dedication.....your passion comes through and I really appreciate that.
@@LucasCatania17 super tight, very cliffy, bad visibility, late in the day, didn't know you were at times. Maybe not as steep as other places you ski, but it's hard to get a sense of steepness on the videos. They never look as steep as they are
20 years with season passes at meadows. It's my favorite place on earth. Conditions are often like that, ice sheets up high and cascade concrete down lower. The terrain is amazing though, you definitely went places I'd be terrified to ride!
Hey brother the last 2 installments have been awesome...feels like back home. Got the breakfast going and life with Luna...that's the stuff that got me watching at first. Love the new terrain and seeing you on some new mountains. Also good call on following your gut on that run...when you stopped your first time down that run...as soon as you started talking about tree wells in my mind I was saying "I wonder if he sees that giant freaking tree well right next to him" 🤣 intimidating terrain. As usual though...you deliver the goods safely...blessings and safe travel.
Wow that was some gnarly terrain dude. Not gonna lie that tree skiing was giving me mad anxiety lol. Would love to see you hit that with a local ripper on a big powder day. Looking forward to your next adventure 🔥🔥🔥
I really appreciate the increase in commentary over the last couple episodes. Just watching you ski is cool, but I like hearing your perspectives while you are actually going down.
Fun little area. Our hangout while in grad school. TRÈES, well ya it's Oregon. Golfing, my tee shots sounded like a xylophone. Thanks for mentioning a cautious philosophy. Hurry back
So cool to see you rip my home hill! Would have been cool to see you up there! Pretty classic heavy/crusty conditions for Hood. Looks like you found the good spots though!
Stoke sesh through the trees and glad to see you trust the universe on conditions and say no. A little bummed though you weren't able to stay a few days at Mt Bachelor. Understandable though if you got a schedule and a list to check off. The views from the top are epic and that south sister is sexy AF. Hope you can make it out at some point and hit the summit, it has endless lines especially someone at your caliber of skiing. Plus doing it all on top of an active volcano is just awesome!
Sick videos. I just moved to Washington and I've been exploring lots of the mountains in the NW. I've still got to check out Mt Hood and Bachelor. I've heard at lot of people say Bachelor is flat but Meadows sure looks gnarly. If your travels ever take you to the ski resorts in north Idaho I can give you some tips.
I learned to snowboard there in the mid 90's, but moved to Tahoe shortly after and definitely wasn't experienced enough to hit any of the stuff you did. Makes me want to go back now and ride with a way different set of eyes and skills!
Meadows is blessed with pretty decent terrain and it honestly has a lot of potential. If it weren’t for the Resorts management it would be pretty amazing. Glad you enjoyed your time at my home hill.
Awesome. If you’re ever in the Midwest, check out mount Bohemia. For a small mountain it is amazing, and the terrain is similar to mt hood. Lots of trees and terrain to explore with a little more guidance
Next time roll down the access road to Bennet Pass SnoPark. 5 minutes away. I (and many others) live there Dec thru April. Also, conditions are usually deep not scrape. Especially in the areas you skied in this video. Also, you're pretty badass in those woods.
Skied Hood Meadows this weekend the passes were $160/day - in hindsight I wish I’d bought an Indy Pass Plus. Agree with you on the awesome terrain. Saturday’s laps off Cascade were fun. Sunday was brutally cold and windy. Only two lifts running because of the wind, but the afternoon on HRM chair with 4” new powder stashes made it all worthwhile.
There's some great layering options. I use backcountry wolverine bottoms, but Mammut and stio have great options in 3/4 length pants. I have a spyder midlayer jacket. 3 layers, base mid and shell. Great for even single digits. White out, iced goggles, cascade concrete. You'll get pow in the next week. Welcome to PNW!
Too bad conditions didn't allow you to ski much of Heather and none of Clark Canyons; they are immense and awesome! Conditions are variable @ MHM, but I've had a ton of powder and soft snow days there; most years they get so much snow!! It is really critical to know where you're going and scout your lines at MHM because if you're in the Canyons or Private Reserve you can find yourself all alone, and conditions are so variable. For example, at times you can be on dangerous ice in very steep places, but feet away, in leeward areas there is terrific skiing in wind-deposited snow. I ski in Utah, now; moved to be close to family. But, there's pretty incredible skiing @ MHM in Private Reserve and the two Canyons!
I have a planks and a 686 shell jacket. My usual go to’s for layering are: not very cold: just a thermal shirt or crew neck, pretty cold: thermal shirt and a crewneck, and super cold: thermal shirt, crewneck, and a puffer

I'm actually a ski instructor at Meadows, so I sometimes loose perspective on just HOW gnarly it can be compared to many other resorts, but you are so right!
