I heard the Neil Warnock comment (and Ali McCoist saying all the same stuff on tv) and thought the same as you Gonzo; Moyes had £110m just from the sale of Rice! In fact he spent £450m in total and last season we still got thrashed by Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Palace, Fulham (twice), Villa, Newcastle, knocked out of the FA Cup by Bristol and barely beat bloody Kidderminster. He wasted fortunes on various failed signings, never signed a decent striker and never took responsibility for his own failings.
No one asked for JLo but, the more he loses, the more we're going to have to listen to this kind of rubbish in the media. Hopefully, if he starts winning eventually, we can rub their noses in it.

Sometimes you need to think about what you write. We finished 9th last season. So for every bad thing you find there must be something good. Example
      1. Lost to Man U Also beat Man U
      2. Lost to Liverpool But Beat Spurs away
      3. Lost to Chelsea but also beat chelsea with 10 men.
      4. Lost to Fulham Twice But beat Wolves Twice
      5. Lost to Villa But Beat Brighton Away.
      6. Lost to Arsenal but beat them Twice.
Also got to the Quarter Finals in Europe and had some wonderful nights including 5-0 v Freiburg . Got further in Europe than Newcastle and United and beat the team (Olympiacos) who won the conference.
When the cup i half empty it is also half full.

@@FlowDeFlowDrainage I do think about what I write, that's why it is properly punctuated, the spellings are correct, capital letters, commas, brackets, full stops, the lot! I even did a paragraph, can't say fairer than that,
I was trying make the point that we got thrashed plenty of times under Moyes. I also think we got knocked out of Europe as soon as we played someone half decent. There were of course some half decent performances but let's face it, most of us were more than happy to see the back of Moyes by the end. You obviously didn't mind too much, so I'm happy for you.

@@PWMoze The first line of my post was provocative, I would normally have edited that out before posting, I apologise for that.
My point was there has been a tendency to represent Moyes' tenure as some kind of failure.
I beg to differ. I also think he was able to improve the club in some of the most challenging circumstances of our lifetime, the lockdown.
Everyone seems to forget that and with good reason, but no evaluation of his time here can be complete without taking the effects of that period into consideration.
If for no other reason than but for the financial restrictions placed on him we would have signed Eze ahead of Palace.
That chapter in our history is over but It compares well with the history I witnessed since 1972.
There are things to like and dislike about every manager I have ever seen. Even John Lyall had two relegations and the longest run without a win in our history.
I think the difference today is with all the money managers are not allowed to work through hard times.
If we had treated Lyall that way 1980, 1981 and 1986 would never have happened and that would have been a real shame.

I was going to write a reply to him highlighting all the facts that moyes is in fact a charlatan and has narcissistic tendencies which somehow gets missed by pundits and oiks like ‘Flow…’ . I’m not sure jlo is the answer but i do know moyes is not the panacea

    • @PWMoze
      @PWMoze День назад +1

@@FlowDeFlowDrainage I loved John Lyall as a bloke, more than Greenwood even, but I would be the first to admit that there were some pretty gloomy periods under his management. I think the difference back then was you simply didn't expect managers to come and go on a regular basis, West Ham was a club that stuck by them through thick and thin until it was almost impossible to continue with them.
Even then it was considered very risky to go outside of the club for a replacement as demonstrated by the awful period under Lou Macari. The club was always more comfortable being managed by a Billy Bonds, Harry Redknapp, Slav, Trevor Brooking, Glen Roeder or Curbishley. They were trying to ensure the continuity of the 'West Ham Way' even if it mostly produced mediocre results. Every time we flirted with a new direction or style we regretted it (Pellegrini, Zola) and the pendulum immediately swung back in the opposite direction (Allardyce, Moyes).
Moyes was the best of those and most successful by a mile! He brought stability, raised our profile and even brought us a European trophy. But he was undoubtedly a 'safety first' manager and that meant lots of dull games and a reliance upon a limited group of players like Antonio, Soucek, Zouma and Cresswell. He was clearly at odds with Sullivan at times and this resulted in inexplicable signings that ended up being sold at a loss after never really getting a chance, as a result we still have Danny Ings. He also didn't want to risk bringing youngsters through. He never really found a striker and allowed various transfer windows to pass without bringing in reinforcements. He was a dour man and so was his football.
I think his best period happened almost despite of him when, by accident more than design, we were able to bring Lingard to the club. For a brief period Lingard gave us the inspired, improvised creativity that Moyes would ordinarily discourage. Almost without him meaning to, we became a 'flair team' with a world class Declan Rice and an up and coming Bowen. That was Moyes at his best and, even when Lingard moved on, it saw us through to the final in Prague. I'll always be grateful to him for that.
But eventually his team stopped performing and for the last six months of his term we all became justifiably tired of him. For me the final straw was the five nil thrashing by Fulham.

I was confident that with Steidten there ,this would be good this season .
      100 M + spent on players , and we are worse .
Why the manager chooses to pull mind bending excuses , like translation issues
leading to the loss , is beyond me .

@rkhan5419 We needed to do a huge rebuild after Moyes. Moyes spent half a billion pounds on the smallest 2nd oldest squad in the league. It's going to take quite a bit of time for the new manager to implement his new style on a new squad of players. Those players also have to adjust to the new system, the new league, and each other.
Sullivan isn't going to get a young, progressive, attack minded manager. That just isn't something Sullivan would do.

Are we discussing David Moyes because he was actually more successful than we thought? Now that we’re under a new manager, it highlights just how good a job Moyes did for us. If he truly was that bad, I don’t think we’d still be talking about him so much. There’s definitely a divide among fans about his success at the club, which creates a bit of animosity now that he’s gone.
Sometimes, it feels like I’m not allowed to express my opinion without pushback, which can be frustrating. I appreciate the discussions, but I think it’s important for fans to share their perspectives, even if they differ from the popular opinion.

Our board refuses to consider managers who are employed at other clubs. Brady and her pals can look as annoyed as they like, but they are responsible for limiting the size of the talent pool they fish in. And why are out of work managers largely out of work? Exactly. You reap what you sow West Ham.

  • @FlowDeFlowDrainage
    @FlowDeFlowDrainage 2 дня назад

Gonzo The real problem here is that the two sides have not agreed on the rules of the debate. Before you start quoting facts and figures you have to agree what counts as an argument and what weight a given fact should have.
My question would be what are the objective factors we can use to evaluate a manager? Could you list the ones that you are using? How do other managers compare on this scale. How do previous west ham managers compare?
Only when both parties agree on the standard of evaluation can a discussion even begin. It seems clear to me that you and the pundits are using different standards. They have managed football clubs and you have not. That is not a put down, it is a fact. You see the game as a fan, which may be harder for a manager to do.
But to have a dialogue one must find common ground or it is just about feelings.
What I can tell you for a fact as a west ham fan since 1972 no West Ham manager was ever sacked (or his sacking demanded) for anything David Moyes did.
This is why older pundits find the situation impossible to fathom. Style is subjective like ice cream flavours or which breed of puppies are cutest. But style has to be given a value or a weight like everything else because in the final analysis results are more important than style. By how much? That thorny problem is why the two sides of this debate find it so hard to find common ground.

Gonzo, I saw the Rory Jennings video straight after the game, and I agree I think he sums up some good points (from a neutral point of view). Last year I think he tended to spout the same pro-Moyes nonsense as everyone else. The 100m comment I first heard on the Stuart Pearce interview, but the female commentator on the program (Abby) had a really balanced view apart from thinking that Loppy was ok with the fans; however, she was a lot more informed than the other 2 blokes on the program, and sounded like she'd actually been following West Ham's progress and maybe seen a few games.

Correct JLo was more than likely not on nobody's list. But it's also hilarious that Moyes is certainly not on anyone's list, which just speaks volumes in itself. I'd also luv to see a pol from all PL teams fanbase that would want Moyes as thier manager? Pretty sure we all know how nonexistent the percentages in his favour would be.
The predicament is who would replace JLo? Which kinda excludes everyone who is available, as we know Sullivan wouldn't dig very far into the pockets. I'd actually prefer to give JLo abit more time on that basis, probably until Christmas at most. Not to mention our striker and midfield problems isn't going to get sorted until January anyway (fingers crossed). But if JLo can show some promise with his starting selection and tactics in the meantime then I'd say he would deserve to have a chance to stay on to and make some improvements during the January window. On the other side of that obviously if we stay on this current trajectory with no real improvement in selection or tactics then Christmas could possibly be too late and I'll probably be calling for him to go before then lol.
