- Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council Dr Bren Carlill says there is “apprehension but also disgust” in the Jewish community due to the upcoming October 7 protests.
Mr Carlill told Sky News Australia these protests are “spreading hatred” with participants “chanting lies” about Israel and shouting “genocidal slogans”.
“It’s common decency, the fact that these people are completely disregarding that I think raised disgust through the Jewish community.”

These protests are not for nothing. There are people suffering in Gaza and now in Lebanon. You may not see them as worthy of sympathy or support but these people protesting obviously do. Some in fact have family members who have been killed.

I was born in Sydney. I am 50. I am currently a masters student at RMIT University in Melbourne and yesterday I had a whole bunch gen z idiots stop me as I walked past to ask me if I would support their protest on terrorism that is being perpetrated by Isreal. As I feel quite unsafe to tell people that I have jewish blood, I politely told this guy to eff off and how dare he. These people are more than unintelligent and I cannot believe they cannot see the wood through trees. They can't see who was attacked on Oct 7th, 2023 and they want to blame Isreal for genocide? I cannot even believe that the university will not rip all the signs posted all around campus declaring a protest will be held this Monday that isreal have committed terrorism since October last year. I mean really??? Who attacked who first??? It certainly wasn't Isreal. I wish people would seriously do some research before they start joining in to protest about things they know nothing about!!!!!!!

The initial borders of the Palestine Mandate, as agreed upon by the 'Victorious Powers' [who *defeated* the Ottomans in WWII] - Britain and France, - included *ALL* of the territory that now comprises Israel, *JORDAN*, the West Bank & the Gaza Strip.
The British - *stupidly disrespectful of Jewish sensitivities re. the Roman 'Judenrein' connotations of the Roman-imposed exonym "Provincia Syria-Palaestina"* - 'chose' the name “Palestine” as a genuflection to Christian European tradition & sentiment - *totally* ignoring local terminology or Ottoman designations ... not to mention Jewish sensitivities.
Look at any map of the area - *Jordan* massively outsizes 'Israel' ... ergo, there *ALREADY IS* a "two-state" solution to this ongoing debacle - *Israel* [including the 'West Bank' & 'The Gaza Strip'] - is the rightful Homeland of the Judaic Nation ... & [the *MUCH LARGER Jordan* - is the rightful Homeland of the 'Palestinian' Nation ... problem solved.
Except that Jordan will not accept the people from Gaza or the west bank. The problem is not solved, unfortunately. Logic will not solve it either.

We live in a society with freedom of of speech as a cornerstone of our democracy fully enshrined in Common Law. If people want to protest on Oct 7th, they should be allowed to do so with the proviso they don't break the law specifically - Criminal Code Act (1995), Chapter 5, Subdivision C-Urging violence and advocating terrorism or genocide. By protesting on Oct 7th, they further debase themselves and further destroy their credibility. The show the world who they really are, both ignorant, stupid and without moral compass. Despite appearances, they are not the winners, the are the losers and the vast majority of knowledgeable Australians will look at them with the contempt they full deserve. The beauty of free speech is it always exposes both the good and bad in society.

We are successfully effecting large scale US divestment from Israeli companies and companies in general doing business at the expense of Palestinians. In a time where everyone is talking about free speech what do we actually want. Israel was hit hard on October 7 but has hit back at least equally hard. I'm not saying they shouldn't have, they do have a right to defend themselves of course but 1200 innocent civilians were killed compared to tens of thousands more Palestinians, take away those who affiliated with Hamas. What is happening in Lebanon may end up the same way and God knows what will eventuate if and when Israel decides to attack Iran. But nothing should take away the right to protest but of course it should be peaceful. It's a part of democracy we should not relinquish no matter how certain groups think.
