RIO Washingtonian Center is a 760,000 sq ft lifestyle center with shopping, restaurants, and entertainment in Gaithersburg, Maryland located immediately south of the interchange between Interstate 270 and 370. The original RIO building opened in 1982, while the adjacent "Washingtonian Center" and "Washingtonian Waterfront" were developed in 1997 and 2004. It underwent a $30 million renovation in 2020. The center is adjacent to the U.S. headquarters for Sodexo and four Marriott-branded hotels.

I had to laugh at the TESLA charging station in the garage. When I first moved to Gaithersburg in 2000, I don´t even know if they had electric vehicles. SWENSENS has been gone for awhile but it was my all-time favorite ice cream store. Kohl´s building has been there awhile, but no one shops there. Roosters will only last if SPORTS CLIPS is still going well in MD. otherwise the concept probably won´t breath. KUNG FOOD Tea's is new, but always does well. True Food replaced Joes Clam Shack., Yard House was always strong. Cooper Canyon Grill has been there since Day One. In fact when me and my wife met with a National Coffee House adviser in 2005 for our Aqui Brazilian Coffee concept, it was at Cooper Canyon Grill. Our Aqui Brazilian Coffee only lasted 4 years, so I am glad the food was good, because the advice was not. Uncle Julio's, Pot Belly and California Pizza are OG. Chipotle has kinda been around for awhile. Bach 2 Rock, Nandos (my daughter once worked there) are also old timers. Washington Sports Club is closed? Silver Diner is brand new. Guapos is OG. DICKS is OG as well as Corner Bakery, South Moon Under and Fine Wine. I missed it in your pan to the water, but there WAS a Starbucks across from the Chipotle next to the elevators for the garage. i think they left. My daughter lives in a nice apartment somewhere around Downtown Crown looking over the water at Rio. I moved to Northeastern Brazil, so I appreciate your walk down memory lane. The renovation to the movie theatre as well as the installation of the area around the water was done as I was leaving.
