      Thanks, only WW2 title I haven't yet played is CMRT, but I'll be doing a fair bit of CMBN first.

    Nicely demonstrates the fidelity and realism of CM given the actual real life result.

      Agreed, there's some really interesting posts over at the Battlefront.com forums about accuracy and C2 information sharing which shine a light on just how much thought, effort and development has gone into the CM series.

    82nd Airborne unit patches? Blasphemy! :-D

    • @joseywales3848
      @joseywales3848  6 лет назад +3

      Yes agreed. Quite a lot about the mission setup was not in line with reality, for example Winters and his troops were listed under A Company, 1st Bttn in the CoC. There is a mod out which corrects the patches, however I only found out about it after the editing was completed.

    Always nice to see another video of this old favourite. You just need to edit the date in the description.

    You should do a campaign series with CM:BN, I recommend Kampfgruppe Engel or The Scottish Corridor. I don't know any English youtubers that have uploaded a series on Kampfgruppe Engel. It would be neat to follow your campaign and see the results of these battles, especially because the loss of men and materials will carry over and the outcome of the battles effect the direction of the campaign. It would be also neat if you follow up on individual sections and how they fair from battle to battle. Although it would be time consuming to make I know I would appreciate it, Im confident I speak for others as well. Anyway keep up the good work!

      I have thought about it. It would require quite a commitment and I would have to put my multiplayer game playing on hold. An 8 mission campaign would probably take at least six months to play and edit. We'll see how it goes in the new year.

      Yeah I found this mission surprisingly easy, some people seem to have had more problems with the German HMG teams than I appeared to have.

      I didn't realise that you didn't have CMBN previously, there's a lot of content / maps with the expansions too like Market Garden, etc.
      You'll probably have to get used to things like no riding tanks. But then again FI doesn't have that either. I believe there's an expansion coming out for FI though, so maybe that has it implemented.

      Yeah I'm sure I'll pick it up fine. I played the demo of CMBB years ago and bought CMAK after that. I then kind of forgot about the series entirely for many years. I stumbled across the CMFI demo a few years ago and remembered thinking 'ah this is like that other game I used to play' before the penny dropped and then I was hooked again so I got CMFI before CMFB and have just recently bought CMBN.

    • @Blazeburn1944

      I was similar, I played the original three. Then randomly came across CMBN, played that single player but never figured playing H2H for quite a while, now I haven't played against the AI in ages.
      If you're looking for an interesting scenario I'd reccomend 'Carbide Carbide' on CMBN. I'm playing it H2H at the moment, if you look at the map you'll see why German infantry can be effective. I've took out two Shermans just using the Panzerfaust 30 already.
      The shorter range can make it quite satisfying!

    I just discovered your videos as I am getting back into CM after a 7 year hiatus. I was previously playing CMBB and CMAK> I now have all the CM2 games and upgraded to engine 4. I really like your interface and the WWII appropriate icons. Where did you get the Mod from ? Also where did you get the mod for the floating icons which are nato symbols ? Will they work for CMBN, CMFI, CMRT and CMFB ? Thanks so much and thanks for the videos. I am now rediscovering CM2 and plan to start a PBEM game with a friend soon.

      Thanks man, you can get all the mods from here;
      cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net/
      The UI is JuJu's UI mod and the floating icons are CAT Tactical Icons mod. You can get the mods fro all the modules. Some mods are specific to the module and some work across all of the modules.

    I'm curious about the commands you used to assault in to and through the initial trenches. Did you split the teams manually and set up manual bounds? Did you use Assault? It looks pretty clean and natural, so curious how you achieved that.

    • @joseywales3848
      @joseywales3848  6 лет назад +1

      I will almost always split teams and bound them individually. For me the Assault command is too clumsy, whereas split teams allow greater flexibility and better protection from HE.
      The key here was 'fire and manoeuvre'. I had a fire element (MMGs as base of fire) distinct and separate from my manoeuvre element (Compton & Lipton's teams).
      In addition, the manoeuvre element was employing 'fire and movement' which is similar to bounding except that the 'overwatch' element is firing and adding to the firepower of the fire element until it is it's turn to move.

    • @ninthshade7375
      @ninthshade7375 6 лет назад +1

      Makes sense. Everyone is doing something useful, no one is sitting around. Do you make use of any Pause commands to speed up the bounds? Or do you just let the movements collectively span a couple of turns so long as you have fire superiority?

    • @joseywales3848
      @joseywales3848  6 лет назад +1

      As with most things, it depends on the situation. If I am being very cautious, for example scouting out a suspected position, then the movements will be slow so that I can assess the situation each turn.
      However, if I want a rapid movement for example to have an impact on an enemy position which I am assaulting whilst still adhering to the 'fire and movement' doctrine, then I will use pauses of around 15 seconds.

    dont understand how you did this and didnt get instantly pinned at the start from the mg42 in the sand bags across the field. over the multiple times through out the years of replaying this mission. im no fuckin noob and ive been around the block with CM, close combat, etc, but every time i play this mission, im instantly spotted as soon as i get to the bocage by that mg42 and theres no way for me to take it out because all my pixeltruppen are fuckin daft. so i spend 5 minutes flanking far right blowing through bocage just to get it
    not talking shit on you in any way, just impressed. maybe i am just a shit armchair general lol

      Interesting, I can't say they had any impact on me at all. They seemed to run off after a few rounds from the Thompsons'. Perhaps the scenario is easier after upgrade 4.0? I have noticed some differences in the scenario compared to some of the older vids that showcase it. It's the only thing I can think of other than being lucky.

    • @chavkill1337

      probably just lucky, i have 4.0 or atleast all my CMs fully updated. i'll give the scenario another try sometime soon.. lol
