@Chachiloveamike Because some parents are crappy and don’t care to protect their child from a predator, especially if that person is a celebrity or has a higher status in society. Happens all the time unfortunately. I personally wouldn’t trust any adult around my child who finds Colleen’s content appropriate for children to witness and/or participate in. It’s sickening to know that audience had a lot of parents in it, and yet they all not only stayed silent, but actually LAUGHED at her sexualizing children and doing/saying highly inappropriate things. It’s really disturbing, and is part of the reason why she flew under the radar for so long.
In my mind, to make an adult joke in children's media work, it needs to be two things: 1. It truly needs to go over children's heads, i.e it can't be explicit, it has to be implied. Mentioning genitals, porn etc does not fit this criteria 2. It needs to be funny on a non-sexual level as well, or otherwise be throwaway/unnoticable enough to be just glossed over by a child. Otherwise it will stick out as a weird, unfunny, out-of-place statement to someone who doesn't get it. A good example of this is in the first Shrek movie, when Shrek talks about Lord Farquad wanting to "compensate something" by having this super tall castle. As a child, you think "oh he wants to compensate that he's short!" and as an adult you get that it's a dick joke. It works on both levels and is not explicit. Colleens jokes are the exact opposite of that.

I’ve never seen her Netflix special but sadly the “porn” segment reminded me of going through Catholic high school. The teachers would always point out our skirts, tops etc. There were socks (ankle socks), shoes, and tanks that were labeled “inappropriate”. It was weird how much those adults were fixated on us.
I think the joke was meant to be taking the piss out of this exact idea in purity culture that that showing any skin is somehow inherently pornographic. But Colleen isn't really satirizing this, she's just... exhibiting the same damaging mentality to her young audience in an annoying voice. I grew up in a Baptist community with people who were way too fixated on the length of my shorts, and find there are so many funny ways to critique/make light of the concept, but Colleen's is beyond poorly executed. An actual good example of this done well is the outwardly prudish character, Angela from The Office. She wears outdated, modest clothing "made for large colonial dolls," and makes arbitrary judgmental statements like "orange is whorish" to her appropriately-dressed coworkers, all while having the least scrupulous sex life of anyone there.
@@Sweet_Dee yesss so well said! This is what I was trying to get at. Like I can see what experiences may have led to this - but the execution is terrible. You’re exactly right - there’s no satire here. It’s just passing fwd the trauma 😭

The parents that chose to bring their kids to these shows and then continued to let their kids watch her after seeing THIS, are the problem. How can you watch this and think that its ok for children, or anyone for that matter.

How could any parent on earth think it was OK or hilarious to take their kids to her shows? Just someone saying the p*rn word in front of my kids sets off the alarm bells and red flags with me. What is wrong with these parents and Netflix shelling out tons of money for this gross lady???
Animaniacs, Rocko's Modern Life, and The Amazing World of Gumball are all good examples of kid's shows that manage to sneak in adult humor for the parents. The main difference between those shows and this special is mainly that those shows still had jokes for kids. Meanwhile, all the "jokes" here are only for adults.
Okay, there's a difference between "jokes that go over kid's heads" and "direct references to sex and porn. Like, I watched Young Frankenstein for the first time when I was maybe eight or nine, and there were a few jokes that I didn't get (like when Inga asks if Frederick would like to "roll in the hay"), but like, there were other jokes in the movie! There were puns! There was slapstick! There were running gags! The movie wasn't all just sex jokes! With this special, it seems like all she's talking about is sex and porn.

ngl this is nostalgic 😭😭 bro i BEGGED my mom to take me to vancouver to see miranda sings live. it’s my biggest regret honestly my family won’t let it go. also imagine how close i was to being groomed like i was a super fan 😭😭😭
I think one of the reasons some of her borderline questionable jokes flew under the radar was because she was always making the questionable jokes as her Miranda character. She essentially decided that Miranda was creepy. The problem with acting out a creepy character is that it blurs the lines between pretending to be creepy in order to get a mocking laugh at the character and actually just being creepy. I think in the past people would have looked at some of her jokes and said “oh that’s just her making fun of this creepy character she’s created,” and now people are looking at it as some thing more real.
The thing about Fred that I can't even say about Miranda Sings is that at least Lucas created the character when he was a kid. Colleen was a whole adult.
The fact that when she asks the crowd to sing along it’s like a children’s choir or kid-disco and just minutes prior she mentioned PH, saggy tits and vaginas smelling like cat food. If this was a comedy show for adults, that would be fine but not only does she know and acknowledge there are kids in the audience, she even markets it towards them. In 2019!! People have been cancelled for so much less and Colleen gets to get away with THAT?!
Nexflix has never tried to hide the fact they’re okay with exposing kids to inappropriate and sexual content. Remember cuties? How is anyone surprised Netflix would let something like this slide?
At this point I have no more questions about Colleen. She's obviously either a perv or just a bad person with no remorse for her actions. But the parents who allowed their kids to watch her and brought them to her shows should be ashamed of themselves.
If I was an adult, and I took my kids to one of her shows, and she immediately starts talking about se× and sh1t. I'm grabbing my child and we're leaving, I can't believe how many parents didn't care that this is the show their kids are watching. There has been *many* red flags about her content that is sadly just now coming to the surface from these past long term fans of hers when they were younger. The fact that when she sung her first song, that first line contained "p*rnh*b" just sets an immense red flag for me. Like I said, I can't believe parents back then just didn't care their children were watching this cringe crap from an awful child influencer..
My thoughts exactly!! Kids get curious so if they see the word “pornhub” or “porn”. They’ll definitely look it up to understand what she was talking about. So then the kids will be probably be exposed to it too early in life until it was time when they hit puberty to know their urges & desires
I recently saw Miranda sings with my 11-year-old son and as soon as we left the show, I said I cannot believe that woman is not canceled. If this was a man he would be in jail.

An actual good example of this done well is the outwardly prudish character, Angela from The Office. the fact kids probably googled the word wondering what it meant 🙁
She made an entire show about P and marketed it as for children
