Amazing documentary. This never fails to fascinate me, the incredibly intricate work and knowledge it takes for all these pieces to make up the whole of a grand and healing instrument such as the organ. Thank you for this wonderful documentary.

The speaking length of the pipe determines the pitch. The 16 foot large pedal pipes produce the low notes. The smaller pipes produce the high notes.
Stopped pipes are half the length but produce the same pitch as an open pipe of the same pitch length.
The scale of the pipe determines the sound. The narrower the pipe, the more string like it sounds.
With the reeds, the length of the resonator, thickness and speaking length of the tongue (controlled by the tuning wire), determine the pitch of the note.
The type of sound reed pipes produce is determined by the shape of the resonator and whether it is open or closed at the top.
Trumpet, cornopean and cornet reeds tend to have conical shaped reeds, narrow at the bottom and wide at the top.
The singing imitative Vox Humana reeds are semi closed and typically have short resonators.

Wilhelm, when this organ was built, why was the Vox Humana and the 8 foot trumpet and 2 foot cornet reeds put at the back of the organ?

The place is chosen because the reeds have to be tuned regularly. Some times you see the reeds between the foot of the Prestant 8' in the facade in Italian organs that is common also in order to tune the reeds .

@@twillertorganprojects ok so it is easily accessible for the reeds to be tuned by the organ tuner.

The cornet is basically the smaller version of the trumpet.
The 2 foot cornet reeds looks like the trumpet reeds but slightly different sound.
Wilhelm why is the Vox Humana and the trumpet reeds placed on the very back of the organ?
