- Barn Find (not really) XJ650 Yamaha Maxim 1983. Purchased not running and brought back to life. What you can expect buying a non running 1980's Motorcycle.
Finally someone who appreciates the true meaning and value of these older inline 4 bikes and shifts them properly... and not revving them all the way up to the red line after they been sitting for years (not good for any bike). I appreciate your time and effort towards bringing it back to life and knowing how much it means to have one. Thank you for the video.🏍️🏍️🏍️
Talked a lot of sense there. I got an XJ650 took outta a ditch and man its some work and a lot of time.
Still going through the rebuild proceedure and looking forward to hearing the first start.
Can not find a tank in suitable condition so far.
By the time I'm just needing that hopefully one will turn up.
just bought my first xj750 moded to be a bober. this thing is extra clean. run like a freaking charm. first bike wasa cbr300r 2015. extra slow compared to this old guy. high rpm make this bike sings !
I just picked my self up a 82 Maxim 650 for $500. I can’t wait to get started restoring it .
how u going with that restoration andy?
Beautiful bike, I have a black one, love it to bits, cheers 🥂
Awesome video, I was watching since i just got one that runs pretty well. I just wanted to see what others did to take care of their bike, awesome video I will sub.
I have the same bike and my bike doesn't idle when cold but starts idling at 4k whem it gets warmed up, think you can point me in any direction?
Update. Still running. I pulled the rock filter I had in there cause it clogged after 300 miles and reduced flow. Going to have to figure out how to fit a paper pleated filter w/o allowing air bubbles. Bike also has some cheap leather bags on it. Moving tool bag to another bike.
I'm soon to buy a project Maxum (1982) and when I looked up the specs for the motorcycle they all say 122 mph top speed. That is what got my interest in these cycles. For a 650cc with low gearing, I'm having trouble believing that now. What are your thoughts?
Depends on how heavy you are. I'm 195lbs. I have not taken this over 80mph I think and don't plan to go higher.
"Scream of death" mine just developed that on the last ride, any links to info on the fix you did?
I just purchased a 1982 from deleware that is currently not running. Do you have a link to that manual petcock and the fuel line and rock filter? Do you also have the link to the carb rebuild kit?
I bought two for 350$ restoring them
Great vid
Awesome vid
Hard to hear all you said, but I still made it out.
Thank you for ur time👍
how come some maxims only have the 1 exhaust on right side? im looking at an 1983 xj 650.. but only the right exhaust. is that normal?
Aftermarket 4 into 1. Stock is 2 into 1 on both sides.
How do you know its off 2 or 3 miles an hr
Comparing to phone. I think front tire diameter is different than stock tires which would be sized metric
Shouldn’t use car or diesel oil. 4 stroke wet clutch oil. It will make a difference in the clutch operation
Rotella T4 is JASO DH-2 MA/MA2 rated. perfect for wet clutches.. older and newer ones
