The carrier you reviewed is not the most current class. The Gerald R. Ford class carriers are the newest, and so far there is only one - fittingly named the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78).
You should review that one too.
if a Carrier Strike Group were heading to Portugal, it would be with the permission (or request) of your government. USA and Portugal are strong allies and we would consider it our duty to help protect our friends in Portugal from any national military threat. US❤PT
I really enjoy your channel content and always look forward to new releases, I must say that this has become my favorite channel
@@PurpleObscuration oh so nice from you. Means a lot.
You love the Phalanx. Look up the video on the A-10 Warthog. It has a larger gun.
Europeans: “ *Wow a Nimitz* “
Americans: “ oh.. this old thing? “
Also, let's not talk about our 10 "helicopter" carriers lol
@@mattfaustiniMost people don't realize just how many carriers we actually have because we are sneaky and call them things like "Amphibious Assault Ships".
@@mattfaustiniwhich amusingly is only about 10% shorter than the one "fleet carrier" that the British own.
@@rathael1428 We do that so the rest of the entire world can say they have more than 2 combined carriers. Seems more fair this way. But it isn't.
Facts… I was thinking the same thing.. Nimitz?? That’s outdated now.. LoL.
The new class of air craft carriers is the Gerald R Ford class, which cost $13 billion each! This is the older Nimitz class.
I worked as a welder on the USS Gerald R Ford as well as worked on a few of the other aircraft carriers. You definately got your exercise walking the ships all day.
Oh amazing. Love to have you here.
How often did you get lost? I've heard new folks on carriers take a while to figure out how to get anywhere because the layout can get confusing.
@@DavidSimmons42even after 4 years living on one, there was always room to get lost XD
@@DavidSimmons42I was stationed aboard the USS Eisenhower (CVN-69) for about six months in the early 80's and, for the first week or so, I needed an escort going between berthing (sleeping area), my work space and the mess hall -- otherwise I'd often get confused and need some extra time to find my way. I rarely went anywhere else and, when I did do some exploring, I'd frequently get lost. Those ships are HUGE. It's like being in a strange city for the first time.
Need to watch one which shows the folks making the food, people diving into the water while other are looking out for sharks. All of the items underneath the flight deck.
Videos of something trying to mess with a carrier would only be simulated training. Carriers are extremely protected and have not been directly attacked in modern times.
The Nimitz-class carriers ended their manufacturing run in 2009 with the George HW Bush (CVN-77) (CV has been the US Navy designation for aircraft carriers since the beginning of the class in WWI. The extra N is the designation for Nuclear powered.) The next ship was of the all new class Gerald R Ford (or Ford class for short) with its mothership being the Gerald R Ford (CVN-78). It replaced the USS Enterprise (CVN-65). The next Ford class carrier is the John F Kennedy (CVN-79) and is being built now, or may even be very close to completion. After a ship of this type is built, it has to go thru a few years of testing on the open sea (called "sea trials") before it is put into full service. The next ship after that will be the USS Enterprise once again, but this time it's number will be CVN-80 and of course be a Ford-class. The number at the end of the class letter designations is the number of ships of that class the US has built in the entire history of that class. So since WWI, 100+ years ago, America has built 78 carriers, plus two under construction, with another 7 or 8 more to go after that. The reason the US has 11 active duty carriers is because each battle group around the world generally has two carriers in it, so figure that just splitting the world into the Pacific and Atlantic theaters alone, that's 4 carriers, and if we have to deploy to the Indian Ocean or the Middle Eastern areas, that's another 2. But the Pacific itself being so massive, having 4 carriers in the vicinity, which are based in Japan, and I think there may be one in Australia (I may be wrong on that, so don't quote me on that) is beneficial. So as you can see, that's already up to 8 carriers just to cover each side of the Asian Hotspot. The carriers that are not deployed are back home getting refurbished and/or upgraded at any given time. But like they said, the nuclear fuel rods last 20 years, but food and munitions don't grow on trees out in the middle of the ocean, so they have to put to port every so often to resupply those things. They do use sea-born resupply ships that carry supplies over by rope, but there's only so much that method can do,
While this video was pretty good, the one this channel dropped for the Ford class not too long ago is even better. It gets even more technical.
The expensive part of a carrier is not the expensive part. It is maintaining the industry capable of producing not only the carrier, but the airwings, and all the technology on the carrier. Great reaction. Your English is really good. You would have no communications problems in a business environment. Keep up the good work.
Pausing is fine, pause the videos as much as you want or need to. Just try and remember to rewind/backup the video a few seconds so you don't miss anything.
PS: That's a previous generation Nimitz class aircraft carrier. The newer ones are Ford class and the first one ran in excess of $13 Billion dollars.
That seawiz gattlin gun shots down incoming missiles
Somali pirates once tried to mess with a US destroyer. Once...
That part had me rolling 😭😭😭
US Navy was created to combat pirates on the Barbary coast
Hey brother. Just stumbled across your channel a couple days ago. Love your reactions.
I don't normally write/comment. But I served aboard aircraft carriers for yrs. Wasn't ships company. I belonged to an F-14 fighter squardon VF-103. I was 1 of those weird people that loved being out at sea.
I served aboard U. S. S. Enterprise, U. S. S. Washington. And the ship I call mine. Since we where on it the longest. Is the U. S. S. Eisenhower
oh its a honor to have you here! Ty so much for your service sir!
Great to see some gratitude from Europe. Someone that recognizes that the USA are the good guys.
And thank you indeed for volunteering to die for my freedom Sailer.
Looks like you were on the Ike when I served on Enterprise. Glad to hear you enjoyed the sea, fam!
29% of the Earth is covered by land, the other part is covered by the US Navy.
That, my friend, is what you get when you take a gatling gun and power it with an electric motor. The older version of the weapon was variable rare of fire at either 2000 or 4000 rounds per minute. With the newer versions of the weapon they run it at 3000 rounds per minute to make the weapon system more compact and less complex as it has fewer gears with a set firing rate.
The cost of the new carrier has increased to over $13 billion now.
Insane 🫠 - but they are amazing
That should improve if there’s a few politicians who understand economy of scale. Remember the f35.
Gerald R. Ford Class cost around 13 billion per ship for now!
These are a bargen at 8.5 billion a peace. The new Ford class carriers are $13.5 billion each and we have 2 already out there.
Love your channel, keep up the great responses.
It costs so much not because of the carrier but the fact that they take into account the cost it took for research etc to produce it and all costs in between, man hours ($) time ($) etc
You need to do a reaction video to the new $13 billion aircraft carrier USS Gerald R Ford class.
Despite the carriers themselves not needing fuel, managing the onboard jet fuel is a major part of their operation.
The osprey are really cool. They are a twin propeller airplane but to take off those two big props rotate up and allow it to take off luke a helicopter. Its the one you said looks like an alien. Once its up in the air the props rotate forward in line with the wing like a regular prop plane. You should try to check out a video on it. We also have jet fighyers that lift straight up and then fly off and can hover and slowly land straight down.
10 questions maybe during the whole duration of the video that's it man That's it.
Really enjoy your reactions man. Sending love from the hills of West Virginia, USA. Please keep it going.
My husband worked at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock for 21 years. He worked on aircraft carriers. Hello from Virginia!
it used to be "where are the battleships". Now, its "where are the carriers". BTW, carriers used to be named after revolutionary war battles. "Enterprise" was the code name of the revolutionary war.
There is another video discussing the new Gerald R. Ford carrier (also named for a class of carrier) amd I believe its cost is over $13 billion. It is more advanced than these carriers and will replace them. For something that may really blow your mind, check out the battleship USS Nevada. It was a ship that survived the attack on Pearl Harbor and TWO nuclear blasts.
I live in Southern Cal. Civilians could visit a museum/aircraft carrier USS MIDWAY. It is an older carrier, but still, its corridors are endless! Plus, Hangars n storage sections! Just amazing.
8.5 Billion Dollars would be 7,736,000,700.00 Euros. Yeah, that's about the right amount for a Nimitz class carrier. The new carrier, the Ford class, is 13 billion dollars.
🇺🇲 Hi there, girl here lol I haven't been able to get online all day finally they got fixed whatever was broken. The first thing that came up was your video. I'm happy to enjoy watching you react to the air craft carriers.
You might as well move you and your family to the United States. We would love to have another patriot like you.
I forgot to tell you I always give you a thumbs up and I watched to the end.❤
my dad worked on the nuclear engines on a few of these, and Ive been on a couple when they were finished. They are massive.
New USS Ford class is $13 billion
If you’re ever in San Diego, you can tour the Midway. Being on a carrier shows you how huge they really are.
A carrier is never alone, and the escorts would never be so close as is seen in this video. The escorts would form a ring that was miles in diameter. The escorts are there to protect the carrier.
The US currently has 11 carriers with a new class just entering service. Typically, 4-5 will be deployed, 3-4 will be in port for refit, and 3-4 will have new crews working up for deployment.
everybody at the car meet gangsta till the Nimitz rolls up with 260'000 hp
i do know that they have videos of testing the C-WIS against naval targets idk if there are videos of real engagements but i am relatively certain that i've seen a test
$8.5 billion is 1.1% of the current annual US defense budget
Nimitz-class will eventually be replaced by the Ford-class but it’ll takes decades for all Nimitz-class carriers to be retired. Currently, only 5 Ford carriers has been built or scheduled to be built. That would still leave 6 Nimitz carriers left to be replaced.
After I graduated high school, my family took me to vacation on the east coast- particularly in boston. But, on the last day, we took a train to NYC and there I saw an aircraft carrier for the first time in my life. I don't even think it was a nimitz, but, let me tell you, _nothing_ can prepare you for just how *_HUGE_* they are in person. It's jaw-dropping.
The Nimitz Class is reaching the end of their service life and the first of the replacement class (Gerald R. Ford Class) is on line already.
One thing they left out of the video is how the air defense system works. Instead of each ship in the battle group independently targeting and firing upon incoming threats, the sensors and weapons of entire fleet are integrated into a single unit controlled by AI. The threats are instantly analyzed and weapons fire is assigned so each target gets exactly what is needed to destroy it, no more and no less.
It took about 34 hours for a US Navy Aircraft carrier to depart from the east coast of the USA to the Gulf of Adan. I don't actally know how fast that is, but it's well above the advertised top speed.
My brother was on the Regan for many years, I was able to go aboard a couple times for certain family and friends events.
Also keep in mind, they can increase the numbers of multi-use aircraft, or offload the support planes (C2, E-2) if needed (and where they can operate from land or use an USAF E-3)....
The 25 mm bushmaster is a beast.......
Please watch the video on the Gerald Ford carrier. It is our newest model. Bigger and better than the ones shown in the video.
Hello from Oregon USA.. I just found your channel in my feed and have been binged watching it, I really enjoy your videos.. your English is great.
They can be sunk with special missiles. Nimitz is 49 years old. Very expensive to upgrade its equipment
Remember the ship itself may be 8.5 billion dollars. But when you take the air wing, strike group ships and the thousands of personnel not to mention all of the logistical support. Now you’re looking at 10’s of billions of dollars for a deployment.
It used to be a very hard sledgehammer,
Now it’s very precise , super efficient super frightening.
Best part is we have 11 of them!
They also have a whole battle group around them at all times
Hey friend! Every time I check in on you, u gain a 1000. Keep up the good work.
The newest carriers USS Bush cost 13 billions. Yes they are the most expensive naval ship.
Say goodbye to the Nimitz-Class and Hello to the Gerald R Ford Class. Clearly Superior.
My time on Nimitz, it can actually go faster than what's stated here
Love your reactions!
oh ty so much!
Let's put things into perspective. Any US large deck (Amphibious assault or Carrier) will be guided by at least 1 nuclear submarine at all time. In contested waters, they will have 2 and in a war time stance will be 4 or more. All submarines are equipped with trident nuclear warheads and vitually any assault that could be reasonably argued to be an attempt to sink a US carrier or Amphibious assault ship can and most likely will be met with nuclear retaliation.
Now you should watch a video about the Ford carriers that are replacing these.
man you gotta check out "real engineering - The Insane Engineering of the SR-71 Blackbird". that thing is insane
The Gerald Ford class carrier is about 13 billion comes after the Nimitz
Fun fact for you. The US Navy was originally created to hunt down pirates.
Worth noting how many different kinds of planes were all able to be replaced with the F18.
I love your content bro! Cheers from the US!
B-2 bombers are about $2 billion each. You should do a video on those.
today!
If you are interested in the day to day working of these supercarriers, May I suggest that you watch the video by Mike Rowe: Somebody’s got to do it: how to stop a fighter jet on a super carrier. AND the second installment of this video called Mike Rowe: somebody’s got to do it: Manhandling missiles on a nuclear super carrier.
He has a television program where he goes around the country to see how the regular fellow does their job and interviews the workers. I think you’d enjoy watching. I must say that I enjoy your enthusiasm.
You should react to "The Enormous USS Ronald Reagan Super Carrier | Aircraft Carrier: Guardian Of The Seas" by the channel spark. It goes over how aircraft carriers work and all the different jobs of the crew.
The new Gerald R Ford Class Carriers that are being built and put into service now are worth $13.5 billion dollars each to build.
You pause whenever you want to, and that's why I watch your channel. I want to hear your perspective, otherwise I'd just watch the video you're watching.
Cost overruns keep it right about 14 Billion USD. That face at 5:02 is one of putrid disgust. LMAO.
Subscribed! Great content!
You love the Phalanx. Look up the video on the A-10 Warthog. It has a larger gun.
8.5 billion is the hull cost. Fully equipped the cost is about double.
That's the old stuff. Check out the Ford class carriers.
It is even crazier than you think. Because of its two nuclear reactors, the aircraft career is able to convert sea water into aviation fuel so it can refuel all of its aircraft.
8.5 billion is 7.7,675,000 euros.
insane
@@european-reactsJust watched your video about America's Top Badass Planes. Here's a video below you'll enjoy about the *B-52 Bomber Fleet* doing an 🚨Emergency🚨 Takeoff 🛫 Exercise...🤨😳 Wow!!!
ruclips.net/video/ckatAzemRHk/видео.htmlsi=oPqXIm8SYPv7S6aM
Yes most ships are named after either famous people, there creators, or famous monuments/cities
The Ford class carrier was 13+ BILLION!
$80 billion dollars is €71 euros, nearly three quarters of Portugals yearly budget.
For perspective, one of those carrier strike groups has more naval and air power than the entire country of Portugal. It could fight a war against most of the world's nations and come out on top, with the only danger being running out of ammunition.
There's a video about pirates accidentally attacking a Spanish warship that's a pretty good video
It only takes a Carrier 7 days to go from Norfolk Virginia to the Arabian peninsula
it was including design which includes future ships design between 8.5 and 13.5 billion dev and build for first one follow ons will be less not as much dev cost
So....11 carriers at 8.5 billion each.
For a grand total of 93.5 Billion dollars!!!
Wonder what the total cost would be if you added the strike groups that are always with the carriers?
The Nimitz Class are the bargain price aircraft carriers it's the Gerald Ford Class that's the expensive ones.
To give a little bit of scale each propeller is taller than 4 men
😋
I can't wait for CVN-80, there must always be a USS Enterprise.
You should watch the new Ford class carries they are out now
People always talk about how the carriers are "sitting ducks"... Look up what it took to sink the Kitty Hawk, no damage control. Completely defenseless. Just check the record.
It was not the Kitty Hawk, it was the America.
Kitty Hawk was scrapped. You're thinking of America.
If he's freaking about the price tag on the Aircraft Carrier wait until he finds out about the seawolf class subs 😅
A B 2 Spirit approximately $2 Billion each
I recommend checking out the channel Real Engineering they have some good videos on different machines including some military equipment including two videos in particular:
1) The Insane Engineering Of The A-10 Warthog
2) The Insane Engineering Of The SR-71 Blackbird
B-2 stealth bomber plane cost over 2 billion each.
The most expensive stuff is maintaining the hundreds of bases on foreign soil.
The USN is the second largest air force in the world, behind only the USAF.
Aircraft carriers are indeed the most expensive and the US is the only nation in the world the fields more then 3 or 4.
They are basically floating cities as mentioned in the video
John C. Stennis was a Mississippi senator.
Yeah, it's true... $8.5B. and we have 11 of em. We spend close to a trillion a year on military.
EDIT: I was actually on a cruise ship bigger than one of these aircraft carriers, at 1192 feet and 1.5x the displacement.
You need not fear the US Navy. Portugal is a NATO ally. Our allies are our friends. 😊
By the way Nimitz class carriers are on the chopping block they're all going to be retired in the next like 10 to 20 years and the Ford class super carriers will be taking their place and we already have the Gerald R Ford the greatest aircraft carrier ever made America today America tomorrow America forever
Also more like 30 years or so before the last Nimitz is decommissioned.
Also the term chopping block isn't really appropriate. They will be decommissioned at the end of their service lives. Being on the chopping block tends to mean that they are being cut form the budget or will be retired early.
@@craigplatel813 knowing the military it's going to be even longer than that
@@pattyg1902 if the last Nimitz lasts 50 years that will be 2059. So 36 years from now as I said. What inherently about the US military would make it longer than that.
I said decommissioned not disposed of which will take longer.pethsos that is what you are thinking about. But by time the last Nimitz needs to be disposed of the process will be well established just like for subs.
My dad was a senior chief in the uss America and the uss John c stennis. I got a 3 day cruise on the America and holy shit. You don't realize how big they are until you see the movie theater and arcade etc. It truly is a city
