From my personal experience, I found out that by using 7 string, I corrected my bad habits in terms of posture and hand shape, solely because of the different neck width/profile. It took some getting used to, of course. But in hindsight I realised I had many bad habits from my 6 string days.
B is still my favorite tuning. I like drop B a bit more than standard, but both are great to write in.
“A Dying God Coming Into Human Flesh” by Celtic Frost is in B standard and its the scariest most ominious guitar riff ive ever heard. Great video though!
That Amon Amrth riff into Allegaeon riff feels like one song. Flowed so well into each other

I adore both, my goal is a 6-string PRS Custom 24 and the 7-string JP. Just so classy and I've never ever heard them sound not great.
The Liberation I can attest that the Custom 24 is fan-freaking-tastic, been playing the core models for 3 years now

The opening riff of Crowbar - Existence Is Punishment is a really heavy sludgy riff in B Standard.

Isolation by Ayreon and The Glass Prison by Dream Theater are some of my favorites, and they're both pretty heavy.
Project-awesome customs and music tbh, the clean part is way harder than the heavy part. The heavy part is fun to play though holy fuck

I feel like Hail the Apocalypse and Tsar Bomba have similar main riffs and I’m so bummed because I think Tsar is the better song. Never gets played live :(

Vultures Descend by Disentomb. The guys from Disentomb are absolute machines when it comes to riffs and songwriting. Bleakened Death Metal at it's finest
Vultures Fly by Avatar is a badass sounding B standard riff. Same with Smells Like a Freak Show.
What's interesting about Epica is that they use both a 7 string Ibanez and 6 string Gibson SG standard at the same time. I remember seeing them back like 3 years ago and that was pretty cool

It's weird how when you change the tuning either lower to an absurd amount or higher. They almost always sound even better

I was worried I wouldn't know any of these, as I've been out of metal for a little bit, but instead I ended up recognizing freakin' 6 of them.
Fun fact; tuning the G down a half step to F# let’s you play traditional lower chord shapes on the treble strings, making playing clean guitar riffs a lot easier for coming up with new chord shapes.

I am currently looking for great riffs to start extended range playing and my suggestions would have been Hypocrite by Alien Weaponry, Hilf Mir bei Rammstein and the one that matches your style probably best: The Interbeing - Pulse within the Paradox or alternatively Amaranthe - 365. I usually practice some Sirenia Riffs as well, but I think that they are played in Drop A. Btw, where is KoRn on this list?

What do you call the tuning that is standard, but the E is tuned to B? Drop B standard? I've been playing with that on my les paul for some sludgy, toasty goodness. Melvins use it on a couple songs and Mastodon's entire first album was in that tuning, but down a whole step. I'd love to learn more about it, but don't know what to search.
