- I have been looking for simple ways to make parabolic mirrors for some time and this is the simplest method I know of. It is the reverse of a larger design by NightHawkInLight and is suitable for a range of basic solar-thermal experiments such as fire lighting or running small Stirling engines.
In the future I will try to make smoother mirrors that are suitable for experiments that require better optical precision.
NightHawkInLight's original video is here:

We had to make a parabolic mirror in groups for our algebra 2 class and we tried this idea, we at first failed because we didn't have enough air out but the second time we perfected it and we made fire. THANKS!!!
I didn't see that coming (that's what she said). Very COoL. Thank you for the video - even if I was a little late to the party :O)
I want to make this to use to deflect my neighbor’s spotlight that shines into my living room every night, all night. How would I rig that?
Finally someone who doesnt Just put Aluminium foil on a tv antenna
Wonder if this can be used to make reflecting telescopes.
I'd also like to know, I have one plastic mirror but its diameter is way too small (too much curvature) and I can't make shit with it. Did you find a way to make more precise mirror? Thanks
Wanted to use it on my homemade scope
Can we make telescope from this
Bro nice video btw im from India can we make the same thing out of a TV DTH dish or does the sheet should be kept on a flat surface??
Yes. TV dish will work. The GREENPOWER SCIENCE channel has done that and many other variations of this sort of mirror.
