      Is there fear (like even fear of God) in heaven? How do we view and value fear? How do we discern whether a fear might be of God or of the enemy? Is fear ever from God?
      Thank you,

    Our most humble Lord, CHOSE the scourging, thorns and nails; so let us CHOOSE to be “poor in spirit” and He will lead us home to our God. Yes Father, grace and mercy is a CHOICE in the spirit, a lot of the times against our own wills...thank you Father. I went to a cemetery today and prayed a rosary for the souls in purgatory and chose one person there to pray for to get a plenary indulgence so He could be freed and go to heaven. Afterwards I sensed that things in purgatory were a lot better and they were grateful for my prayers. Please encourage people to do the same, as their sufferings are so pitiful. 😔🙏

Totally agree that it’s good not to dwell on Hell to an unhealthy extent (and certainly not if one is prone to over worrying), though it can be good to remember the reality of an eternity separated from God, as it’s a choice we need to reject every day. Great video Father, I understand a little bit why hell is necessary for freedom to be real. I just struggle with this because God commands us "to be perfect as He is perfect" and to preach the good news to the ends of the Earth but as you know this is very difficult. My state in life is so different, I don't know how to conform it to the will of God, it might mess everything up. Even with His perfect mercy, I know it doesn't come unless we truly repent
    I also worry for those who don't care much for things of God because they are going through their own sufferings and didn't get the opportunity to know these things. It seems more like an honest mistake rather than a deliberate rebellion of God. In other words, they didn't know any better

    • @ctmcatholic
      @ctmcatholic  3 года назад

      Hi Angeline, that is a great question. Do you mind me asking what you mean by your state in life being different?
      As for the other parts of your question I totally get it. It’s difficult to fully grasp why God would let some people not know Him. Ultimately we don’t know His plan fully, so we have to live as if Hell is a real possibility for us all (to assume it wasn’t could be disastrous). At the same time, we trust in His mercy.
      Catholic Answers have a few articles on this topic. Here’s one that may be helpful:
      www.catholic.com/qa/how-can-atheists-go-to-heaven
      So, a lot of it has to do with how much we’ve been blessed to know Him and His will. At the same time, with more knowledge (which is a good thing), comes more responsibility to live according to His will, doing good and avoiding evil.

    Thank you, Father! I think I may be guilty of asking God to take away my free will: I ask the Holy Spirit every day to give me the grace not to care about my feeling, to persevere till I die, and on some days ask God the Father to take away my free will if it does not conform to His will. It's probably cowardly to ask this grace as then I would not have to battle with my feeling and wants! thank you for everything Father, I really love you and pray for you, Kevin

    • @ctmcatholic
      @ctmcatholic  3 года назад +1

      Hi Kevin, thank you for sharing this with us. I think I can see the pure and good intention which may be behind that prayer, though maybe it could be reworded slightly. Wanting to do God’s will is a good an beautiful thing and it can be frustrating when our broken desires conflict with it and tug us in an opposite direction. So praying for the grace to die to our own will, when it does not align with God’s, is a very good thing. Praying for our free will to go away entirely and permanently won’t be possible as God is love and love can’t be forced and has to be a free choice, so we need that free will in order to choose Him. But praying for our will to die/dampen/shut up (when it doesn’t conform to God’s will), at least metaphorically, is a very good thing indeed. Does that make sense?
      I hope that helps and God bless you. Katie 🙏

    • @Aaalllyyysssaaaaa
      @Aaalllyyysssaaaaa 3 года назад

      Hey! I wanted to respond because I prayed that prayer. It's not cowardly, it is humble. God hears you and God will answer it better than you can imagine, that is, He won't give you what you're asking for but He will satisfy the desire that made you ask, i.e. the desire for holiness, the desire to follow God with ease, and to rest in God's love. All of those things are actually what God wants to give you in this life. Like it's not supposed to be a strenuous losing battle that you're not strong enough for. God wants you to have that grace, so your prayer is so good. Never be afraid to be perfectly honest with God. Here is what made me ask God to take away my free will, and what He did for me instead. Basically my problem, and I see traces of it in your language, forgive me if I'm off target, was that I believed I had to be good/strong enough to get to heaven. It sounds extremely convincingly close to the truth, but it is actually different in nuanced ways, and it is a perversion of truth.
      Here is the truth. God is love, and God is goodness. Uncompromisingly. When we will to sin, it's not that we failed God, it's that we acted against love, and love will not compromise what it is, and love will not violate our will. We are created from nothing, like our being is sustained constantly by God. So we CANNOT love without God's grace. We can't resist sin and evil without God's grace. We can't do good works without God's grace. We would all be worse than hitler without God's grace, because we can't make ourselves good any more than we can create ourselves. Sin engenders more sin because it creates obstacles to God's love that He cannot cross without compromising what love is. So God wants to help us, and make it as easy as eating and drinking and breathing, but He is prevented.
      So how do we pull ourselves out? We don't. We rely on the initiative of grace that God took. Jesus literally took the love of the Father all the way to hell so that the Holy Spirit could reach our hearts wherever we are and lift us higher. Our only job is to say "yes" like Mary. She didn't battle the devil up to the mountaintops and wrest holiness from God and descend victoriously with a cute chubby baby, the Holy Spirit descended upon her, and since she was sinless she recieved God perfectly, and because she is our amazing blessed mother she said "yes," and that was it, it was a done deal.
      So why do we sin when we love God so much that we tear ourselves to pieces, and it is as easy as saying yes? The answer to that is the devil. A lot of times it starts with trauma, like we are all broken from this sinful world, and it creates pain and desperation and confusion, and that is an opportunity for the devil to tell you a lie. Like say you start out a baby, you love your mom and dad, all your needs are filled, and you are learning about who God through the example of your mom and dad, and what God does through the beauty of creation, and all the amazing things about being alive. But your parents are broken. So say they teach you a flawed version of love. Then that pure part of you that really wants God is confused, and suddenly in a way it is offended by love. Because your developing concept of what love is is not uncompromising, but your true deepest NEED for true love is. Then the devil gets in there and exploits the heck out of that vulnerability. Like he'll tell you God is asking for more than you can give, tell you you can't trust God, you won't be fulfilled if you give up this sin, or at least you'll be unfulfilled until you die and go to Heaven... That is 100% lies. We pray it every day. Thy kingdom come on EARTH as it is in heaven. There is suffering here yes, but suffering with love and peace and joy is not on the same planet as suffering without hope, it barely even counts as suffering because there is complete fulfillment, peace, and light down to the core of your soul, it still is literally heaven. And then you die and there's better heaven. Please don't allow the devil to cause you to think I am being figurative. This earth is not supposed to be miserable. Like when people are unhappy, like their joy is not complete, God has a problem with that, like it's the wedding at Cana and we are out of wine! So what do you do? Go to Mary, and she'll let Jesus know, and then she'll tell you to do whatever He says lol, give Jesus what He asks for, and He will turn it all into wine like on the spot. The reason it doesn't work like that when you're in sin is because of the devil messing up your sense of what God really wants, so you have to learn to recognize when the devil suggests something so you can do the opposite. Sometimes it's unbelievably insidious, like telling you to pray a rosary when you don't have the strength so you get discouraged, or telling you God is asking you not to eat dessert or something. God does ask you to pray and fast but He encourages you towards it, He doesn't frighten, threaten, or chase you towards it. Seriously He doesn't, believe it. God is not the source of fear and distress. That lie is everywhere and it messes with too many good people.
      The devil only has any strength at all when you believe the lies, so doing the opposite is a hard thing to resolve yourself to do but the worlds easiest thing to actually follow through on. The rule of thumb for recognizing the devil is if a thought causes you to feel an increase in faith, hope, and love, it comes from something good that wants to bring you closer to God. And if it causes you to feel a decrease in faith hope and love, that is something evil that wants to separate you from God. Lol when I learned that it was so unbelieveable because all the critical thoughts that I thought were my conscience were actually evil! And suddenly following God actually became an easy yoke and a light burden, like in real time, not just in comparison to the weight of eternal hell lol. It was like falling in love, except instead of all the love songs making sense, suddenly all the psalms made sense lol. God actually healed me and seriously made me not care at all about sin anymore because like why would I ever want to I'm perfectly fulfilled in every way. I can rest. It is not a battle. He expanded my heart and soul to love more, like I physically feel it. He cured my anxiety and depression lol like I started getting sick from my meds because I stopped needing them. God is like always with me just a lil flame in my heart (sometimes inferno 😳) and He does tiny loving gestures for me that melt my heart, like He cares for my slightest needs in the sweetest way, and He loved me that way even in my darkest times when I was deep in the depths of sin, it's just I couldn't feel Him there because of that sin.

    • @Aaalllyyysssaaaaa
      @Aaalllyyysssaaaaa 3 года назад +2

      Part 2, sorry, this became a novel lol.
      There is a horrible side, temporary but surreally painful. God wants to be first in your heart. That's why it's harder to be holy when you are richly blessed. Like if you have children, God wants you to love Him more than your children. Not to love them less, but to love God more. God wants your body and mind and dignity and self worth. He wants everything. Everything you surrender to God, He gives back to you x100, in this life. Goodbye to self-esteem issues, God tells you exactly who you are and He makes sure you know that you are loved with all the fire and passion and desire of our almighty God who IS love, and HE will be your strength. God's love is ALWAYS fruitful. The hard times are when God takes away His blessings, and we are asked to say "yes" to that, which is truly the cross. It brings us into the terror of isolation and brokenness and the poverty of who we are, which is dust, and God feels it with us, and asks us to surrender. It is the garden of gethsemane. All I can say is cling to Jesus and know it will end, and joy will come in the morning. Jesus promised that anything we ask of the Father in His name, He will give us, or else something better that fills those exact desires beyond what we could have conceived of, now, in this age. So don't stop crying out to God. God heals, He does not wound, and He will not break us. God is all good, the pain of this world is redeemed in Christ, and His mercy covers us. The most nonsensical painful things happen in this world, but God takes our wounded, broken hearts and His wounded heart, and joins them together. (I had a moment like that in prayer after my husband left me with no warning, without even telling me why. I love that man more than anyone on earth and and I always will, the pain was enough to destroy me. I was making toast and praying fiercely and incessantly/pesteringly like that woman in the Bible who Jesus ignored for a long time before implying she was a dog lol and finally healing her kid, and God like nudged my heart and I put the butterknife down and closed my eyes and He sucked me into like a dark quiet place inside me, and I showed Him my heart and was like "help, it broke, ow" and it was like that divine mercy image where there were streams of red and white light coming from His heart, and I held out my heart, and He plugged His wounds into my wounds and all the pain was just... ungh mixed with sweetness and sadness and beauty like a knife, like it wasn't gone, but it was utterly redeemed beyond description, like it was bliss. Wine. The goodest wine. Drowning in beauty. God showed me squeaks of what heaven is like here and there, and that was the best one. If good and evil are the black and white silhouette of God, then suffering and mercy/redemption is like dappled light illuminating the breadth of Him, and my God is beautiful... His skin is gilded with the gold of the richest kings... Oh boy I'm like going to bawl just remembering it. Thank you Jesus.)
      There was this guy who made a really striking cartoon, like it was silly and childlike but so so sad, and the guy who made it said his favorite emotion was happiness mixed with sadness, and I think he intuited something about the heart of God because it is bang on. That is the feeling of suffering love, like not like we suffer and love when we have no hope and no joy, but supernatural suffering love - redemptive suffering love. Idk if this is true but secretly my hope is thats what saints felt when they were totally united to God and just wanted to suffer for Him. I could do that. It was just gut wrenchingly agonizingly just the most beautiful feeling, suffering and mercy. I firmly believe that our suffering is redeemed, as in God is so very good that there will not be anyone who will not praise God when they see what He's done with our pain. When we surrender ourselves, our needs, desires, and loves to God, God will show you the realms of good He has done with our gifts, and in His mercy He will satisfy us. More than we could dream. God's love is excessive, it goes far beyond what is rational or necessary.
      In the dark it is so hard though... Trusting through the pain that God is mighty and good, and His ways are not our ways... God feels like what you'd feel like taking your child to the hospital and delivering them helplessly to undergo painful medical procedures they don't understand while you watch and cry your eyes out and wish you could explain why this is happening to them, and how much you love them, and how you ache for their healing and feel their every pain for yourself. I think in the agony in the garden Jesus felt the depths of true absolute abominable despair like we have in sin... And submitted, like the ultimate purgatory, total abandonment of everything to the Father. I can't even feel that much to comprehend what He did... Anyways my point is say yes, you need to bring exactly zero strength to the table, this life is pure undeserved gift, but expect purgatory, but it is unbelievably short all things considered, then the pains are over, the child is delivered, the pains are forgotten, and heart rending bliss and joy reign forever

Since we don't believe in predestination to hell, who (or what) are the children of the Evil One? Are they people? Or are they the manifestations of evil in every one of us sinners: the deeds of the flesh (Galatians vv 19-20) ? Or ... ?

      Great question, Anna. And Angeline’s suggestions are dead on.
      I know this world can be such a difficult place to find silence, and silence is something we all need desperately, especially when trying to hear God. I often find nature to be another wonderful place for silence - a calm beach, forest, mountain, whatever your preference. But of course, nothing can beat a silent Church, particularly an Adoration chapel where you know you should get proper silence. (If needed, make sure you’re going to the Church/chapel out of peak hours every once and a while - getting time on your own in there can be very powerful indeed!).
      Hope that can help, Katie :)

      I just go and sit in front of the tabernacled Jesus in our church before or after Mass or whenever my church is open. I sit as close as I can, sometimes on the floor. Not all churches have Adoration chapels, all have a tabernacle. Quality time and acts of service are my love languages. @@peggydas1188 Hi Peggy, I’m so sorry to hear your brother has cancer, but praise God he has come Home to the Catholic faith. Suffering can be a difficult subject to understand, especially when someone close to us is suffering so much. I find the most helpful way to think of it is in the context of eternity. This life is so, so short compared to the next one, and if suffering in this life can be offered up for the good of our soul and others’, it’s no wonder the Saints have so many positive things to say about suffering. It may help/encourage you to look some of them up. I’ll post one of my favourites below. I hope it can be of some help. God bless you and your family! Love, Katie and Team
      If God gives you an abundant harvest of trials, it is a sign of great holiness which He desires you to attain. Do you want to become a great saint? Ask God to send you many sufferings. The flame of Divine Love never rises higher than when fed with the wood of the Cross, which the infinite charity of the Savior used to finish His sacrifice. All the pleasures of the world are nothing compared with the sweetness found in the gall and vinegar offered to Jesus Christ. That is, hard and painful things endured for Jesus Christ and with Jesus Christ.

    I truly feel blessed by many of the videos featuring Father Columba but I must say that I do not agree with the concepts he presents in this video. In fact, I think that they are potentially damaging to one's sense of God and the spiritual life. It is not in alignment with many other respected Catholic priests and scholars so it is really only one way of interpreting an understanding of the afterlife. A similar issue is the penal substitutionary atonement theory which came later than the previously accepted ransom theory, originating with Origen. When presenting views as though they are the only acceptable view, you limit viewers and constrict their ability to reach out to God. I think we can trust God to reveal what is most needed to each human heart.

      @@ctmcatholic The topic is complex. To present only one view doesn't help people to learn and grow, to discern. Think of Thomas Merton, Richard Rohr, St. Teresa of Avila, Ilia Delio, Karl Rahner... and consider that fear of an eternal punishment will never reconcile anyone with God or produce a faith that is rich and deep and full of mystery. What if your channel discussed a quote such as this one from Thomas Merton (Seeds of Contemplation) "Hell can be described as a perpetual alienation from our true being, our true self which is in God."
      Or this one from Karl Rahner "The existence of the possibility that freedom will end in eternal loss stands alongside the doctrine that the world and the history of the world as a whole will in fact enter into eternal life with God. Hell is a necessary, logical possibility but not a certain reality."
      Thanks and blessings to you also. Much of the content in these talks truly helps people to engage in their faith. However it is hurting world right now and focusing on the love of God to change one's life might lessen the debate about hell and put attention where it most needs to go, to fully immersing ourselves in the love of God and our neighbour as ourselves.

Might want to study the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the writings of early Church Fathers who were a tad closer to Jesus in chronology. Or perhaps immerse yourself in Sacred Scriptures. Relying only on current theological schools while the Church is drifting from the Truth could be dangerous. Pope Benedict XVI Would be a safer contemporary to study if you are searching for truth and not just another scholar to tickle your fancy. As a revert I looked at them all, Protestants are notorious for picking their prophets and wandering in the desert. I am so glad the Church has weathered the seas.
