    I don’t think she’s wrong, she’s been in the game for a while and the training HAS changed. Singing was much more diligent in the 2nd - 3rd generation. She has a right as a performer and artist to feel that way. I don’t think all groups are bad like this, but some are a bit obvious, in this generation more than ever.

      This isn't true though because there is several clips of them not taking soundcheck seriously and Tiffany has had many bad moments while performing so I don't get why she gets to criticize people was she was easily one of the least stable members in her group regardless of her hard work. SNSD were amazing but they were not perfect and also had these moments that she criticized.

    Lazy isn’t the word I would use necessarily. But they sure are privileged compared to their predecessors. And very much unprepared compared to previous generations. They have potential, but the fact that their companies are debuting prepubescent children and are not properly training them compared to older groups says something about what this industry has become.
    Edit: After watching the actual interview, this video takes her words completely out of context and has nothing to do with the groups themselves. In the interview she mentions that she notices during rehearsals that groups don’t go “all out” in terms of energy, and asks why they’re doing it “half heartedly”. When she was a rookie, they were always told to give it their all “like it’s the first time, the last time, every time” (quoted from the interview).

    • @azusamio9754
      @azusamio9754 5 месяцев назад +16

      I agree with you, however regarding the debuting mino/prepubescent children? it's not a new thing in the industry, especially in SM (prime examples are Taemin and Krystal). the difference is as you mentioned, they were well-trained and prepared for their job.

    • @Lena-zn4re
      @Lena-zn4re 5 месяцев назад +12

      @@azusamio9754 Yes, I’m not saying that minors didn’t debut back then. Minors were definitely also criticized back then. But most idols back then were also at least 17 (or about to turn 17) at the time of debut. It was also usually just 1-2 people. Now it seems like the prime age to debut groups is 15-16, with a few sprinkles of 18-20 year olds.
      The new girl group UNIS has minors making up 7/8 of their members. The majority of them aren’t even 16 yet. The youngest debuted at 12. There’s a 10 year difference between the eldest and the youngest. You can see why people would find it especially problematic.
      Minors used to be in the minority, but it looks like they’re slowly becoming the majority within their groups. Pair that with some companies’ (cough cough I’m staring at you HYPE) inability to properly train their artists’ and you’re bound to garner criticism.

We can argue about singing all day, but 4th and 5th gen girl groups blow 2nd and 3rd gen girl groups out of the water with choreography and dance skills. honestly most of the choreographies back then were pretty hardcore. just look at Into the New World by SNSD, BGGG by Miss A, most of Shinee, Infinite and TVXQ choreos. It wasn’t that they had the easiest dances, but it was that most group members didn’t have the chance to stand out by themselves that easily. These days, you have individual fancams and chances to be on screen in terms of YT content that I don’t blame newer idols for not taking rehearsals as seriously as the official performances. However, for someone like Tiffany who’s from the biggest 2nd gen girl group, it’s normal for her to find the newer system weird. Kpop has evolved a lot since then, and i feel like it’s normal for older idols to think that the newer ones have it a lot easier compared to a time when kpop was mostly a south east asian thing.

    @Callisto171 5 месяцев назад +125

    Nah I don't agree, as an old SONE/2nd gen listener.
    I think the new generations are more pressured to be good at everything. In the past nobody expected you to be a great singer if you were the main rapper for example, as long as you could hold notes.
    I don't believe current idols are lazy at all (with few exceptions) but I blame companies for picking less talented idols because of their visuals.
    This always happened in kpop but older generations were *slightly* more accepting of "average looking" idols.
    They were criticised by koreans for being "ugly" but at least they had the chance to debut and show their skills, receive support. Now companies won't give them a chance at all which is depressing to me.

    • @Callisto171
      @Callisto171 5 месяцев назад +9

      @grettapricilla9685 It is my opinion, that could be wrong, based on observing different generations.
      No hate to Tiffany but SNSD literally became a meme for being lazy during rehearsal/sound checks + Jessica being criticised for her laziness. It is hypocrisy to judge other groups.
      The reasoning also doesn't make sense to me because wouldn't individual fancams put more pressure to perform well? By always being the focus of the camera.
      At least I use my brain to form my opinion and not blindly believe anything said to me.

    • @aeri_taylors-version
      @aeri_taylors-version 5 месяцев назад +17

      That’s because companies now stop giving official positions to the members, and the fans keep on demanding “fair” line distributions despite the idols within the group not having the capabilities to do so.
      Using SNSD as an example:
      - we knew dang well Hyo is a main dancer, we didn’t expect her to be given much lines, but she’d be front and center during those dance breaks
      - Taeyeon, being the main vocal, will almost always be in charge of the high notes, but we’d always expect her to be put at the back during dance breaks
      If I’m using the current idols as an example then whoever gave some of LSF Kazuha’s lines in “Unforgiven” was setting her up for failure because she’s *straining* the heck out of it, even while just standing in encore. She’s not up vocally for it. Other LSF songs are also not in the girls’ comfortable singing range. Add that to their taxing choreo that’ll tire their bodies as well, which makes it harder to produce voices well. Now they’re stuck with the bad-vocal branding.
      Companies, idols, and fans need to acknowledge their idols limitations (vocal-wise and/or dance-wise) and give songs that work well within their limitations.

    What she said is true. Especially today, idols lipsync like crazy it's even crazier that some of them can't lipsynch properly. Back then, almost every single music program was sang live. It was easy for companies to know who lacked what. New debut idols would watch their performances with their managers, dance trainers, and vocal trainers they said it as it is. The trainee selection and process was more cut throat before Especially for the OG big 3 cause they will cut you off the moment that you fail the monthly tests that they do or even just gaining weight will be am enough reason to cut off a person from the trainee program.The Management was so strict and unbending that if the relative of an idols passes away they will be there for the service but the day after the burial idols would resume their schedule. Management back then didn't care if you were depressed or having thoughts about taking your own life idols will still do their jobs. Companies taking the initiative to protect their idols well being is something I'm glad that changed.

Like there is a focus on perfectionism now that has made companies focus on performances and looks over singing live, and the vocal training of popular groups can be hit and miss. But it seems more like her work ethic and standards have shifted from many other groups standards.
    As I've tried to find more groups I enjoy, I've been trying to find more with strong live vocal skills. I'd love to hear what groups she things are doing well. If y'all have vocal groups your proud of plz rec and shout them out!!

ALSO there’s this concept to not stand out when you’re in the back so the person/people in the front are the main visual point at that moment. That’s why you always hear dancer reactors compliment idols who have their own style but also blend in at the same time. Maybe back then you had to fight for attention on stage by standing out but the new meta is to be good but also to blend with your team. I think her categorizing today’s Idols as Lazy because they have solo fancams is a little too much. Giving “back in my day” vibes and I’m not here for the judgment🤷🏻‍♀️

      What stable vocals? Most groups nowadays lipsync. There are actually very few groups that have good live vocals. 4th and 5th gen are all about the dance. And snsd may not have had the most complex choreography by kpop standards nowadays but they still had some challenging choreography and they still killed with the live vocals

    Bruh even in her era, there are idols who are lazy. It's like a Boomer hating on young kids because they have new tech. Just because they suffered doesn't everyone should suffer. That's a LOSER mentality. And just because she's from 2nd gen doesn't mean new gen's don't have suffering. In fact, it's even worse nowadays that kpop is a global wave that every move every actions are being scrutinized after gaining worldwide audiences. 🙄

      I mean it’s not like we know what goes on behind the scenes at music shows. Rehearsals for outdoor events, which I’m assuming you are talking about for snsd, are normally different since they’re expected to perform the same song multiple times (pretty sure someone said over 5) due to more aspects to take note of. It’s normal to take it lightly and almost all idols do this to conserve energy.
      One thing for sure is that it’s true that it’s easier for all members to shine nowadays than it did in the past when there weren’t individual fancams uploaded by broadcasting companies.
