People often assume that John is my favorite beatles however if you ask me that's a most troublesome question. Which beatle is your favorite? As to not obnoxiously answer with a taciturn and dismissive "they were all my favorite"; the real truth remains in a more nuanced approach. The reality (although I am my own person, far from anyone else, just like you dear reader) is that I wish I could write melodies like Paul so I supposed he is my favorite melody maker. I've always been terrible at percussion and Ringo is quite literally my favorite drummer irrespective of being a beatle. George is without a doubt the personality I wish I had, calm, cool, and reserved. My nature is to blather on until people wish I would stop talking. But John Lennon, from what I believe we know about him, carries all the negative traits I see in myself. Jealous and self-absorbed. I hate those bits about me and so when I study his life and his mission to correct himself; I can't help but feel I can learn a thing or two from him. You wouldn't take weight loss advice from someone who had never had to struggle to lose weight would you? So who is my favorite beatle? If we're talking melody then it's Paul, close seconds are John and George. But that's only because he has the numbers. John's strawberry fields, in my life, a day in the life, etc. speak to my soul. So I suppose it's John then? I don't know. It's like Paul is my science professor and John is my religion rabbi. But then what does it even matter? They're just people like me. Surely I won't spend my life trying to emulate anyone else and strive be my own man. But if the question remains and an answer must be given then it has to be John, only for the fact that everything I don't like about myself seems to be present in him. When I was younger I said John. The when I was a musician I said Paul. The when I grew into a man the obvious choice was George. But at this point I don't even care about that question anymore. But I'll leave you with this. My very favorite beatles song ever...ever ever ever. The one I danced to with my wife on our wedding night was George's "Long, Long, Long". Make of that what you will.
It’s John for me, too. So many melodies, that came so easy to him, seemed positively inspired. And this was the main magic of The Beatles, to me. Of course he wrote a lot of those songs with Paul, but still, John always seemed the most special one…at least, until he was no longer able to do so because of the drugs.
Agreed. For a few years I couldn’t really figure out who my favorite Beatle was. Sometimes I thought Paul or Ringo. I never really settled on John since he had a lot of controversies. Eventually, I settled on George being my favorite. All of them are great in their own ways but I feel like I can relate to George the most. He was the quiet, calm, and chill Beatle. I was born the day before he passed away as well, which is still crazy to think about. Maybe his energy lives through me in a way. It’s strange.

Im a guitar player as well and i relate to johns guitar playing most though hes a close second to george, they said he was the least technical beatle in terms of his guitar playing, yet he could come up with almost the perfect solo on the spot. Not that the others cant, i love you cant do that, and my favourite singer in the group is john, but i like george more cause of his calmness... And teaching that tall guy how to shave in a hard days night. As you can tell the beatles are my favourite band

@@MarkMikelVideos regarding this, Paul mentions briefly that George was out of touch with John in this interview ruclips.net/video/MiaOUus_L9A/видео.html He doesn’t exactly get into how bad the blood was, but I believe he hints at the fact that the two had things hanging on a sour note, and they just never made proper amends before he was killed. In another interview m.ruclips.net/video/G1wkRVUlCzM/видео.html George talks about what it was like hearing about Lennon the night he died and he doesn’t really express much. He also mentions how some of the tension the two of them had was over a disconnect from George’s biography where he doesn’t credit John for something that caused a rift between the two, I think it was for not crediting him with a line on a Harrisong or overall influence. It seemed like there was something more petty and annoying going on that didn’t have any real weight behind it if that makes things a bit less severe. They weren’t on speaking terms past the mid-late 70s I believe, but at no point do I recall it being particularly bitter. It still must have eaten him up inside though, either way.

Yoko said she felt like John was cheating on her with Paul. May Pang said John was always asking "I wonder what Paul is doing" Yoko was jealous of Paul and she contributed many of the lyrics to How Do You Sleep? She riled John against Paul.
Even tho Paul wanted to make peace between John and Yoko while John was with May Pang... unthankful whore, if it wasn't for Paul, John maybe wouldn't ever be with her again.
@@ficacar99 She dumped John because he had loud sex upstairs with a girl while she was downstairs with guests. That blew her fuse, of course... And this started the lost year with Mae Pang as a watchdog and a vent for his needs. But he recovered by himself, became successful again and began to gather more confidence on his own. Yoko let him in again (pun intended) just before he could become too independent eventually.
I can't blame her. She was a jealous person. And she obviously wanted attention from her husband. Although she was in the wrong there. However I feel like it would be a good time to forgive her anyway because it's nice and I'm sure anyone in the Beatles would have wanted that.

There's a few instances where John talked about his struggles with being attracted to men, (Yoko has also confirmed it too) especially during such homophobic times as the 50s, 60s and 70s. John really struggled with toxic masculinity, and IMO I think he was actually in love with Paul; John was obsessed with the notion of one person fulfilling all of his needs, creatively, emotionally, sexually, that was able to devote themselves entirely to him, and he found that in Yoko (as toxic as it was) but was haunted by his connection with Paul; Yoko said it was "like John was cheating on me with Paul", suspected there was deeper feelings there, people called Paul "John's Princess" at Apple in Yoko's hearing. And that's just off the top of my head. So I think when Yoko came along, John wasn't able to separate Paul and Yoko, because he needed to be fulfilled in all ways by one person, so effectively divorced Paul and went on to devote himself to Yoko, who fulfilled all of needs and became "Mother" (I mean, the man was pretty screwed up mentally and emotionally)

He’s such a model for grace and positivity. In interviews, he seems to always consider his influence and whether or not he’s spreading a positive and good message.
That’s why I love him :3 He’s so sweet, pure, and down to earth. He genuinely cares about his fans, and he’s friendly. He loves to socialize with people and he’s so calm and relaxed that way. I mean, sure he bad John kind of fought, but when John was murdered, Paul was crushed... The same thing with George... He genuinely cared for his friends... Edit: I just saw the part about “How Do You Sleep” and that’s sad. John actually hurt Paul... Like genuine pain... Another great thing about Paul is that, yes. He is extremely forgiving. I mean when John was dissing him, he still protected him. It was like Paul didn’t think John did anything wrong, even though he did. He didn’t care. He genuinely cared about John and he didn’t give a fuck about being dissed by him. He was still his friend... Edit 2: I just watched a documentary the other day called “Lennon’s Last Weekend” and there was a part about “How Do You Sleep” and one of the people talked about why John wrote that song, and then there was like a sound bite of John saying that he used the fact that he just despised Paul and put it into a song, and then one of the people who were talking about John said something about their relationship and used the phrase “His Paul” and that just melted my heart, but when they used the word “despised” for the way John felt about Paul it was very heart wrenching for me since I always saw them (and continue to see them) as best friends. I kind of kept softly repeating the phrase “His Paul” to myself because of how cute that was. It was just the cutest thing I ever heard. That phrase let me know that they were not only best friends, but companions, and they loved each other for who they are. That’s true friendship, and I couldn’t have put it any other way. Fun Fact: In August of 2020, Mark Chapman, the person who shot and killed John Lennon, was denied bail for the 11th time. Fun Fact: Paul and John had actually made up and repaired their friendship shortly before John was murdered. (As many of you probably know) Fun Fact: Some people may think that Paul didn’t care much about the fact that John had been killed based off of his reaction when he was interviewed the day he found out. He had gotten a phone call that morning saying that John was dead. He was in a state of severe shock at the time, and the poor lad still couldn’t comprehend this terrible event yet. Plus, he was probably numbed by the news and the pain that came with John’s death. It hadn’t yet registered in his brain that his best friend in the whole world, that his companion, his song writing partner, was no longer with them, that he was gone and would *never* come back, *ever* again. He most likely didn’t even *want* to believe it, and there’s a very high chance that if he hadn’t said “It’s a drag, isn’t it?”, that he would’ve began to cry/break down in tears. He was trying extremely hard to keep it together, and he could have failed had he not said that phrase. So for those people who say “Paul didn’t give a fuck about John being dead!”: Think again, and you’ll see Paul’s true feelings. Fun Fact: George was stunned by the news of John’s murder, and had a similar reaction as Paul. Ringo was also stunned. All 3 were initially in a state of shock, and were numbed by it. Fun Fact: John had said himself that he felt extremely safe in New York City, exactly 48 hours before he was killed. Fun Fact: Paul nearly broke down in tears when he heard the song “Beautiful Boy” which was written by John, and he most likely can’t listen to that song without getting sad/starting to cry. Paul also dreams of John often.

Yep - poor John - he suffered a malcontent personality disorder - and I don't think drugs helped the situation - and had he lived I think he would have asked the band back together. Malcontent personalities grow out of it as age, wisdom, and experiences develop the self-actualized person. As well many creative people suffer malcontent issues - and sometimes for the better of their craft - but not so much for their relationships.
I feel like while Yoko may have made John happy, she brought out and even encouraged the worst in him. The personal jabs and pokes at Paul were pure Yoko. She was like a 2nd wife. So absolutely jealous and insecure about and around t he e 1st wife she has to drive a viscous wedge of unnecessary meanness between the husband and the 1st wife and even the children (George, Ringo and even us, the fans).
@@dona62851 That could well be correct - however, John did have a malcontent personality disorder - Yoko most likely fed the beast inside - the pitty is - many creative types do have malcontent issues - and as they age with wisdom, experience, and achievement - the malcontent issues go away and they are open to rebond with old friendships - that is those who will let them back into their lives. I think Paul would have worked with him again - but we will never know now because of a real nut job - Chapman. The fact is Paul had so much solo commercial success - it would most likely have been a brief reunion for a charity cause. Just look at the top-grossing Beatles songs - and Paul dominated there as well - Paul wanted the Beatles in his life - but Paul did not need the Beatles anymore. John started the worlds best band - and john ended the band - and perhaps Yoko was the cog in the wheel - but John could have easily told her - this is my job - it has grown into a major industry - there are a lot of people riding on and depending on this for their living - Oh No Yoko - I'm holding this part of my life together. @Sam Murphy I agree with you on Mick Jagger - he is not as big a talent as he thinks he is - but he is the frontman to the second-greatest band of all time (reference Billboard Magazines top 100 bands of all time) and Mick is a bit arrogant to the fans (personal observations) - John Lennon has been reported as abusive to Cynthia Lenon - but Cynthia Lennon has only varified his unfaithfulness toward her - there at the end of their marriage - but she denies physical abuse. I am no expert - but have been a student of Educational Psychology - as an amateur psychologist - I would diagnose John Lennon as being a Malcontent Personality - but not a danger to others - it is reported that in his youth - he did get in a number of fights (as do many young kids) - and may have lead to the death of an early drummer in his band (who died from a stroke a few days after the fight) - but these things happen when intoxicated - the other individual was equally engaged in the fight (did not try to stop or run from the fight - as was reported) - so by law - Lennon would have been free from any legal action being taken. Young people can and do often make tragic mistakes - and John Lennon is no exception to that rule. I agree that Elton John and Billy Joel are major talents - however, the charts (under the percent of populations at the appointed times) do indicate that the Beatles take top honors in many categories. And two albums from the Beatles that more or less revolutionized the recording industry - would be the Revolver Album and Seargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. I can not think of any groundbreaking work from Elton John or Billy Joel that could surpass the Beatles. Though I enjoy Elton John and Billy Joel - as tremendous talents - I also hear a lot of Beatles influence in their music - and they as well - indicate tremendous Beatles influence in their own admission regarding their own work. Billy Joel has even coined a few songs as being McCartney influenced. And many professional and successful songwriters have interviewed as proclaiming McCartney as a genus and commanding force in the creation of a wide and diverse range of Melody mastery - and I personally agree. When I purchased RAM and listened to it for the first time - I predicted then that McCartney would surpass the other Beatles in commercial success - and it turns out - I was correct. I love that guy - and he continues to be the workaholic of the Rock Era. His influence is going to be around for a very long time. And the critics were dogging him in the early days of their solo careers. Okay - Sam - enjoy the music dude - wonder if you play or record your own? Take care - stay safe.

Randy Cantera I don’t see it as taking shots in the first place. Paul was just expressing his emotions through his music, as would any musician. I mean if you were Paul & your band mates left you, wouldn’t you express yourself through the only way you know how, writing songs. Many other artists did the same. John just took it a step further with How Do You Sleep & it obviously hurt him so he stopped, that’s a bigger man if you ask me.

Paul has said many times him and John were like brothers. And sometimes they were at each other's throats, but they always made up later because they loved each other. When John and Paul worked together they created some great music.
A lifelong fan of the Beatles, ( 60 years now, ) I have my own assumptions about their relationships. John and Paul had the deepest relationship of the four. With their shared personal losses and songwriting, they forged an emotional attachment as strong as the best marriage. Paul made the effort to establish ties with John's family, ( Hey Jude, ) and was the one who was most accepting of Yoko in John's life. When the Beatles disbanded, it was similar to a divorce, with the legal and emotional baggage attached. Although people see a bit of sniping at each other in their songs, I feel that there was a deep love between the two that even Yoko couldn't dispel. Paul's Here Today is a beautiful love song to his mate, heartfelt and poignant. Incredible the interest in these lads' lives today.
I've never heard of george being in the kitchen when he heard about johns death, George said in one of his interviews that he was asleep and his wife took the call, told him what happened, and he went right back to sleep
Paul had more emotional maturity than John but John caught up after becoming a father a second time and there's a real contentment in him that comes to that last interview days before he was murdered
Legend has it that Ringo didn't want to record "How Do You Sleep" because he thought John went over the top with the nasty lyrics towards Paul. He abandoned the sessions, and Alan Paul plays the drums on that track. George, however - who was always a bit vocal about things - does an incredible solo. I feel for Paul, it must had hurt a lot listening to that song.
Yep! It is unfortunately quite common for Paul's own biography to be written out of his own songs because people think they're about John (and don't even get me started in how reluctant people are to attribute John songs to Paul). I always took Dear Boy as Paul kind of taunting Linda's ex, like "look at this AMAZING woman you left behind! Well, your loss, buddy! Because I actually cherish her and treat her right!" Paul said in an interview at one point that he and Linda had open conversations about their romantic pasts, so she had to have confided in him about how her ex husband made her feel.

As a songwriter, How Do You Sleep is phenomenal musically. It's just a shame John had so much resentment of Paul. During the videos of John recording this, it looks to me like George (who was playing slide guitar) seems uncomfortable hearing the lyrics. But I might just be completely hallucinating and mind reading

Thanks for another insightful and entertaining video. The Beatles break up showed us how petty we all can be and how much can lost in anger and bitterness. Paul McCartney summed it up perfectly when he wrote "And in the end The love you take Is equal to the love you make."
Liking the Beatles is more than just there extremely creative, experimental at the time lyrics and music. It’s about the bond they created with each other through their music- and how we all got to be a part of such an amazing friendship between them all. It’s about understanding the growth. I love the Beatles so much. Their very nostalgic for my father loved them. It almost makes me cry to think of how the Beatles has formed such a bond between my father and I. We both just get what we love about them. So the fact I have such nostalgia wrapped up in something as phenomenally revered as the Beatles is such a blessing. If you see this - cause I definitely sent you this video - just know I love you. :) I’ll likely hug you longer next time I see you. But I love you very much.
If Paul didn't keep it together, their last album would've been Sgt Pepper. We wouldn't have had: 1. Magical Mystery Tour (film/soundtrack) 2. White Album 3. Yellow Submarine (movie/album) 4. Let It Be (movie/album) 5. Abbey Road Thank you, Paul. IMO, John was resentful that Paul took over HIS group: 1. The Quarrymen - before the Beatles became famous: John was the clear leader 2. Please Please Me - Revolver: Leadership was shared between John and Paul 3. Sgt Pepper (Paul's idea) - Abbey Rd: Paul was the clear leader Paul contributed to more of the Beatles number 1 hits during the final era (Paul was the "workaholic" by RIngo and John's own words), he came up with most of the group concepts during that era, he urged the group not to hire Allen Klein as the manager, but they did anyway (John later admitted Paul was right). IMO, John was passive aggressive and did things to spite Paul because his bruised ego made him feel Paul "commandeered" the Beatles. John got heavy into Yoko (brought her around to passive aggressively show he's over the Beatles), got into heroin which made him aloof from the group, didn't want Paul's father in law to manage the group. Don't get me wrong, John was still great during the final era, he was just on his own trip at times. Paul's not perfect, but he doesn't get the credit he deserves. Spot on? Or do you have a counter-argument.
Dang that part where he is talking about how hard it is to say I love you but you gotta really hit me I wish I could’ve said I’d love you to so many people in my life you don’t think about it that they could be gone the next day

Not really. It’s a song John had been sitting on that was somewhat autobiographical, but knew if he released it everyone would just laugh at him and say “there he goes again”, but he knew that Ringo had the charm that he could pull it off no problem. While he did write it after he read Paul’s letter to announce he was leaving the band, it was more influenced by Mohammad Ali and after he caught A Hard Days Night on tv one night. There is not really anything anti-Paul in it
I found this amazing podcast made by 3 women called Another Kind of Mind that I wanted to reccomend. They do a 2 part episode about How Do You Sleep, and they have a long series on John and Paul's breakup beginning in 1968. It made me rethink so much about the predominate tropes out there around these artists and their relationships to each other. They look at it primarily through a lens of love rather than a dominance competition which I find so refreshing. And best of all, they don't class Paul as a secondary or sidekick kind of partner! They are irreverent, but to me it feels as though they try to be fair and give John and Paul's feelings equal weight while redressing some of the imbalances in the discourse that I've seen in my many years as a Beatles fan.

I always thought John Lennon was so childish with this song. To this day it’s a tune that I can barely listen to because it sounds like a spoiled baby throwing a name-calling temper tantrum.
Finis Malorum: Paul NEVER called John names. Paul made soft references to John’s actions. In return John called Paul “a cunt” in a video reference and said “all you done was yesterday” and “since you’re gone you’re just another day”... I mean it was ridiculously childish. John was jealous pure and simple... and the references Paul made were true.
I heard this song for the first time on the radio one day. I didn't really understand what it was all about at the time (I was young), but I loved the sound of it so much that I bought the CD.
Outstanding video! You made every song, no matter how cutting, out to be a fight amongst brothers and that helped take the sting out of those songs. And, seeing how John and Paul ended up in good terms proved that the bond brothers have can, indeed, be stronger than ill-conceived and occasional jabs. At least that’s how I heard it. Brilliant!

People often assume that John is my favorite beatles however if you ask me that's a most troublesome question. Which beatle is your favorite? As to not obnoxiously answer with a taciturn and dismissive "they were all my favorite"; the real truth remains in a more nuanced approach. The reality (although I am my own person, far from anyone else, just like you dear reader) is that I wish I could write melodies like Paul so I supposed he is my favorite melody maker. I've always been terrible at percussion and Ringo is quite literally my favorite drummer irrespective of being a beatle. George is without a doubt the personality I wish I had, calm, cool, and reserved. My nature is to blather on until people wish I would stop talking. But John Lennon, from what I believe we know about him, carries all the negative traits I see in myself. Jealous and self-absorbed. I hate those bits about me and so when I study his life and his mission to correct himself; I can't help but feel I can learn a thing or two from him. You wouldn't take weight loss advice from someone who had never had to struggle to lose weight would you? So who is my favorite beatle? If we're talking melody then it's Paul, close seconds are John and George. But that's only because he has the numbers. John's strawberry fields, in my life, a day in the life, etc. speak to my soul. So I suppose it's John then? I don't know. It's like Paul is my science professor and John is my religion rabbi. But then what does it even matter? They're just people like me. Surely I won't spend my life trying to emulate anyone else and strive be my own man. But if the question remains and an answer must be given then it has to be John, only for the fact that everything I don't like about myself seems to be present in him. When I was younger I said John. The when I was a musician I said Paul. The when I grew into a man the obvious choice was George. But at this point I don't even care about that question anymore. But I'll leave you with this. My very favorite beatles song ever...ever ever ever. The one I danced to with my wife on our wedding night was George's "Long, Long, Long". Make of that what you will.

It’s John for me, too. So many melodies, that came so easy to him, seemed positively inspired. And this was the main magic of The Beatles, to me. Of course he wrote a lot of those songs with Paul, but still, John always seemed the most special one…at least, until he was no longer able to do so because of the drugs.
Agreed. For a few years I couldn’t really figure out who my favorite Beatle was. Sometimes I thought Paul or Ringo. I never really settled on John since he had a lot of controversies. Eventually, I settled on George being my favorite. All of them are great in their own ways but I feel like I can relate to George the most. He was the quiet, calm, and chill Beatle. I was born the day before he passed away as well, which is still crazy to think about. Maybe his energy lives through me in a way. It’s strange.

Im a guitar player as well and i relate to johns guitar playing most though hes a close second to george, they said he was the least technical beatle in terms of his guitar playing, yet he could come up with almost the perfect solo on the spot. He doesn’t exactly get into how bad the blood was, but I believe he hints at the fact that the two had things hanging on a sour note, and they just never made proper amends before he was killed.
In another interview m.ruclips.net/video/G1wkRVUlCzM/видео.html George talks about what it was like hearing about Lennon the night he died and he doesn’t really express much. He also mentions how some of the tension the two of them had was over a disconnect from George’s biography where he doesn’t credit John for something that caused a rift between the two, I think it was for not crediting him with a line on a Harrisong or overall influence.
It seemed like there was something more petty and annoying going on that didn’t have any real weight behind it if that makes things a bit less severe. They weren’t on speaking terms past the mid-late 70s I believe, but at no point do I recall it being particularly bitter.

Yoko said she felt like John was cheating on her with Paul. May Pang said John was always asking "I wonder what Paul is doing" Yoko was jealous of Paul and she contributed many of the lyrics to How Do You Sleep? She riled John against Paul.

There's a few instances where John talked about his struggles with being attracted to men, (Yoko has also confirmed it too) especially during such homophobic times as the 50s, 60s and 70s. John really struggled with toxic masculinity, and IMO I think he was actually in love with Paul; John was obsessed with the notion of one person fulfilling all of his needs, creatively, emotionally, sexually, that was able to devote themselves entirely to him, and he found that in Yoko (as toxic as it was) but was haunted by his connection with Paul; Yoko said it was "like John was cheating on me with Paul", suspected there was deeper feelings there, people called Paul "John's Princess" at Apple in Yoko's hearing. And that's just off the top of my head. So I think when Yoko came along, John wasn't able to separate Paul and Yoko, because he needed to be fulfilled in all ways by one person, so effectively divorced Paul and went on to devote himself to Yoko, who fulfilled all of needs and became "Mother" (I mean, the man was pretty screwed up mentally and emotionally)

He’s such a model for grace and positivity. In interviews, he seems to always consider his influence and whether or not he’s spreading a positive and good message.
That’s why I love him :3 He’s so sweet, pure, and down to earth. He genuinely cares about his fans, and he’s friendly. He loves to socialize with people and he’s so calm and relaxed that way. I mean, sure he bad John kind of fought, but when John was murdered, Paul was crushed... The same thing with George... He genuinely cared for his friends...
Edit: I just saw the part about “How Do You Sleep” and that’s sad. John actually hurt Paul... Like genuine pain... Another great thing about Paul is that, yes. He is extremely forgiving. I mean when John was dissing him, he still protected him. It was like Paul didn’t think John did anything wrong, even though he did. He didn’t care. Edit 2: I just watched a documentary the other day called “Lennon’s Last Weekend” and there was a part about “How Do You Sleep” and one of the people talked about why John wrote that song, and then there was like a sound bite of John saying that he used the fact that he just despised Paul and put it into a song, and then one of the people who were talking about John said something about their relationship and used the phrase “His Paul” and that just melted my heart, but when they used the word “despised” for the way John felt about Paul it was very heart wrenching for me since I always saw them (and continue to see them) as best friends. I kind of kept softly repeating the phrase “His Paul” to myself because of how cute that was. It was just the cutest thing I ever heard. That phrase let me know that they were not only best friends, but companions, and they loved each other for who they are. That’s true friendship, and I couldn’t have put it any other way.

It hadn’t yet registered in his brain that his best friend in the whole world, that his companion, his song writing partner, was no longer with them, that he was gone and would *never* come back, *ever* again. He most likely didn’t even *want* to believe it, and there’s a very high chance that if he hadn’t said “It’s a drag, isn’t it?”, that he would’ve began to cry/break down in tears. He was trying extremely hard to keep it together, and he could have failed had he not said that phrase. So for those people who say “Paul didn’t give a fuck about John being dead!”: Think again, and you’ll see Paul’s true feelings.

Yep - poor John - he suffered a malcontent personality disorder - and I don't think drugs helped the situation - and had he lived I think he would have asked the band back together. Malcontent personalities grow out of it as age, wisdom, and experiences develop the self-actualized person. As well many creative people suffer malcontent issues - and sometimes for the better of their craft - but not so much for their relationships.
I feel like while Yoko may have made John happy, she brought out and even encouraged the worst in him. The personal jabs and pokes at Paul were pure Yoko. She was like a 2nd wife. So absolutely jealous and insecure about and around t he e 1st wife she has to drive a viscous wedge of unnecessary meanness between the husband and the 1st wife and even the children (George, Ringo and even us, the fans).

I think Paul would have worked with him again - but we will never know now because of a real nut job - Chapman. The fact is Paul had so much solo commercial success - it would most likely have been a brief reunion for a charity cause. Just look at the top-grossing Beatles songs - and Paul dominated there as well - Paul wanted the Beatles in his life - but Paul did not need the Beatles anymore. @Sam Murphy I agree with you on Mick Jagger - he is not as big a talent as he thinks he is - but he is the frontman to the second-greatest band of all time (reference Billboard Magazines top 100 bands of all time) and Mick is a bit arrogant to the fans (personal observations) - John Lennon has been reported as abusive to Cynthia Lenon - but Cynthia Lennon has only varified his unfaithfulness toward her - there at the end of their marriage - but she denies physical abuse. I am no expert - but have been a student of Educational Psychology - as an amateur psychologist - I would diagnose John Lennon as being a Malcontent Personality - but not a danger to others - it is reported that in his youth - he did get in a number of fights (as do many young kids) - and may have lead to the death of an early drummer in his band (who died from a stroke a few days after the fight) - but these things happen when intoxicated - the other individual was equally engaged in the fight (did not try to stop or run from the fight - as was reported) - so by law - Lennon would have been free from any legal action being taken. Young people can and do often make tragic mistakes - and John Lennon is no exception to that rule. I agree that Elton John and Billy Joel are major talents - however, the charts (under the percent of populations at the appointed times) do indicate that the Beatles take top honors in many categories. And two albums from the Beatles that more or less revolutionized the recording industry - would be the Revolver Album and Seargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. I can not think of any groundbreaking work from Elton John or Billy Joel that could surpass the Beatles. Though I enjoy Elton John and Billy Joel - as tremendous talents - I also hear a lot of Beatles influence in their music - and they as well - indicate tremendous Beatles influence in their own admission regarding their own work. Billy Joel has even coined a few songs as being McCartney influenced. And many professional and successful songwriters have interviewed as proclaiming McCartney as a genus and commanding force in the creation of a wide and diverse range of Melody mastery - and I personally agree. When I purchased RAM and listened to it for the first time - I predicted then that McCartney would surpass the other Beatles in commercial success - and it turns out - I was correct. I love that guy - and he continues to be the workaholic of the Rock Era. His influence is going to be around for a very long time. Paul has said many times him and John were like brothers. And sometimes they were at each other's throats, but they always made up later because they loved each other. When John and Paul worked together they created some great music.

A lifelong fan of the Beatles, ( 60 years now, ) I have my own assumptions about their relationships. John and Paul had the deepest relationship of the four. With their shared personal losses and songwriting, they forged an emotional attachment as strong as the best marriage. Paul made the effort to establish ties with John's family, ( Hey Jude, ) and was the one who was most accepting of Yoko in John's life. When the Beatles disbanded, it was similar to a divorce, with the legal and emotional baggage attached. Although people see a bit of sniping at each other in their songs, I feel that there was a deep love between the two that even Yoko couldn't dispel. Paul's Here Today is a beautiful love song to his mate, heartfelt and poignant. Incredible the interest in these lads' lives today.

I've never heard of george being in the kitchen when he heard about johns death, George said in one of his interviews that he was asleep and his wife took the call, told him what happened, and he went right back to sleep
He only went back to sleep because he was told that John was injured/had a flesh wound, he did NOT know that he had been murdered at that point!

Legend has it that Ringo didn't want to record "How Do You Sleep" because he thought John went over the top with the nasty lyrics towards Paul. He abandoned the sessions, and Alan Paul plays the drums on that track. George, however - who was always a bit vocal about things - does an incredible solo. I feel for Paul, it must had hurt a lot listening to that song.

It is unfortunately quite common for Paul's own biography to be written out of his own songs because people think they're about John (and don't even get me started in how reluctant people are to attribute John songs to Paul). I always took Dear Boy as Paul kind of taunting Linda's ex, like "look at this AMAZING woman you left behind! Well, your loss, buddy! Because I actually cherish her and treat her right!" Paul said in an interview at one point that he and Linda had open conversations about their romantic pasts, so she had to have confided in him about how her ex husband made her feel.
Nevertheless the interesting thing about it is, that John apparently thought that "Dear Boy" was about him....

As a songwriter, How Do You Sleep is phenomenal musically. It's just a shame John had so much resentment of Paul. During the videos of John recording this, it looks to me like George (who was playing slide guitar) seems uncomfortable hearing the lyrics. But I might just be completely hallucinating and mind reading

Liking the Beatles is more than just there extremely creative, experimental at the time lyrics and music. It’s about the bond they created with each other through their music- and how we all got to be a part of such an amazing friendship between them all. It’s about understanding the growth. I love the Beatles so much. Their very nostalgic for my father loved them. It almost makes me cry to think of how the Beatles has formed such a bond between my father and I. We both just get what we love about them. So the fact I have such nostalgia wrapped up in something as phenomenally revered as the Beatles is such a blessing. If you see this - cause I definitely sent you this video - just know I love you. :) I’ll likely hug you longer next time I see you. But I love you very much.

IMO, John was resentful that Paul took over HIS group:
1. The Quarrymen - before the Beatles became famous: John was the clear leader
2. Please Please Me - Revolver: Leadership was shared between John and Paul
3. Sgt Pepper (Paul's idea) - Abbey Rd: Paul was the clear leader
Paul contributed to more of the Beatles number 1 hits during the final era (Paul was the "workaholic" by RIngo and John's own words), he came up with most of the group concepts during that era, he urged the group not to hire Allen Klein as the manager, but they did anyway (John later admitted Paul was right).
IMO, John was passive aggressive and did things to spite Paul because his bruised ego made him feel Paul "commandeered" the Beatles.
John got heavy into Yoko (brought her around to passive aggressively show he's over the Beatles), got into heroin which made him aloof from the group, didn't want Paul's father in law to manage the group.
Don't get me wrong, John was still great during the final era, he was just on his own trip at times.
Paul's not perfect, but he doesn't get the credit he deserves. Spot on? Or do you have a counter-argument.

I admit it, i can accidentally be a bit 'snobbish' or something when it comes to commentary on the Beatles, but this was legit moving and very much in the spirit of 'love and peace' that lots of us cynics (who call ourselves 'pragmatists') tend to mock. I love the look Harrison gives Lennon whilst recording how do you sleep. When John sings 'the only thing you did was yesterday' Harrison looks up like "Bloody hell John, that's a bit much"

Not really. It’s a song John had been sitting on that was somewhat autobiographical, but knew if he released it everyone would just laugh at him and say “there he goes again”, but he knew that Ringo had the charm that he could pull it off no problem. While he did write it after he read Paul’s letter to announce he was leaving the band, it was more influenced by Mohammad Ali and after he caught A Hard Days Night on tv one night. There is not really anything anti-Paul in it

I found this amazing podcast made by 3 women called Another Kind of Mind that I wanted to reccomend. They do a 2 part episode about How Do You Sleep, and they have a long series on John and Paul's breakup beginning in 1968. It made me rethink so much about the predominate tropes out there around these artists and their relationships to each other. They look at it primarily through a lens of love rather than a dominance competition which I find so refreshing. And best of all, they don't class Paul as a secondary or sidekick kind of partner! They are irreverent, but to me it feels as though they try to be fair and give John and Paul's feelings equal weight while redressing some of the imbalances in the discourse that I've seen in my many years as a Beatles fan.

I always thought John Lennon was so childish with this song. To this day it’s a tune that I can barely listen to because it sounds like a spoiled baby throwing a name-calling temper tantrum.
It’s made all the more difficult by the fact that as a piece of music it slaps really hard.
Paul technically started it. I look at it as siblings fighting. John even said through all that fighting that Paul is, and always will be his brother.

In return John called Paul “a cunt” in a video reference and said “all you done was yesterday” and “since you’re gone you’re just another day”... I mean it was ridiculously childish. John was jealous pure and simple... and the references Paul made were true.
I heard this song for the first time on the radio one day. I didn't really understand what it was all about at the time (I was young), but I loved the sound of it so much that I bought the CD.

And, seeing how John and Paul ended up in good terms proved that the bond brothers have can, indeed, be stronger than ill-conceived and occasional jabs. At least that’s how I heard it. Brilliant!
