The news has just come in. Baranski is now a widow, after some 30 years of marriage in a profession where the odds run against such a success! Condolences to you, Miss Baranski. Baranski is the only actress (yes, actress) who made me sit up and notice in a commercial she made driving an automobile. What I did want to see Baranski is, was in a duo a la "Hart to Hart." But anything she stars in is enjoyable. But most importantly now is my condolences! 30 years? Talk about Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy!
Did she not know about The Golden Girls which came before her? They were sexy, strong, empowered older women who broke the glass ceiling of the stereotype of that age of women..
No, sadly I wasn't :( I wish I was! Christine is my favourite person ever. The BANFF people uploaded it onto RUclips and before they put it on private, I saved it so I'd have it if something happened to it :)
Her characterization of women's roles in television is so completely wrong. She must have never watched anything, or it's just self-serving justifications for a feminist audience. I think she has become a star by also playing lightly, never too deeply, never risking a lead role, or revealing her limits. She always gives me the impression of being a singer/dancer yet rarely does that. When she performed I'm Still Here, it was good, but not great. Perhaps that's why Allison Janney got the Oscar, if I recall, because she has much more strength. Baranski is more like a delicate crystal um, martini glass, while Janney is unbreakable.
I had the same reaction when she said that about older women on TV. I believe I read that she and her husband did not have TV in their home because they did not want to raise their kids to be constantly watching it. Which is fine, but if she wasn't watching any TV, how did she know all the older women roles were so "terrible"? I also agree about her acting - I find most of her performances very much on the surface, without a whole lot underneath.
Great actress and she can do anything.

Whenever somebody oozes praise over the unmatched "quality" of television today, I know they're ignorant of real quality.
