Hello Chris, I completed last month's puzzle with nearly the exact same reasoning (bar a few order differences throwing up different scenarios). You will find my name in the first column on the submissions. I agree with your response to @tarennauxen, this month's is a lot harder - less logic, more maths. Although, logic is important for determining the scenarios. great video :)
I'm not sure, I think problems like these are good to study, coding random things will probably help, I think your math, physics, and electronics classes at school will probably help. These tough puzzles also vary quite a lot, like half the time the Jane Street puzzles are too hard for me due to various reasons.
Please keep doing those, it's really nice to see your reasoning!

Dang, yeah this one is easy to get stuck on. I just started on this months, it's much trickier, we'll see if I can manage to do it.
