      Why not White Bishop to f2 traps the king then it's either just Knight to e3 Mate or if Black covers with their Bishop you have to dance around knight to f5 giving you options for e3 / g3 and Black can't cover both

    Many persons asked, what if after Bb6 black plays Bd2 (instead of Be1, shown in the video).
    Then Bf2 Bf4 Nc3 Bd2 Ne4 Bf4 (only square, where the bishop stops both, Nd2# and Ng3#, but now the f2 bishop is defended by the knight, so) Kxf4 wins the bishop.

    There's another interesting line after playing Bd4 while black has their bishop on e1. If they go Bd2, you have to play Bf2 and then regardless of what black does (as long as they don't trivially give the bishop away for free or allow you to checkmate with Ne3#), you have to play Nc3 with the idea of going Ne4, forcing black to give up their bishop due to the double mate threat.

      Another small detail, that makes the position slightly less perfect (but still insanely impressive), is the fact on the 4th move white can play either 4.Be5 or 4.Bf6 - which are both equally winning with the same idea.

    1. Bf2 was my first thought. You're threatening 2. Ne3# and the Black king can't move, so he has to move the bishop. 1... Bd2 is the only move which doesn't lose immediately: 1... Bd4 loses the bishop and anything else allows 2. Ne3#. I guess after 1... Bd2 the king and bishop are close enough together to prevent the threats of forks or discovered checks which occur in the main line, which must be why that attempt doesn't win.

    I'd say the point if 2. Bd4 was to cover c3 rather than drop back to e5 - after 1. Bc5 Ba5 2. Ne3+ Ke1 White can still drop back with 3. Bd6, but Black can then survive with 3. ... Bc3. (Also, the line 1. ... Bd2 2. Bf2 followed by Nd1-c3-e4 feels worth discussing, and the position after 4. Be5 is still a win with White to move, through Bg3+.) Nonetheless, a great puzzle and video - I enjoyed it a lot!

    Solved puzzle 1 I think.
    1. Bb6! (1.Bf2 is the idea, but then 1... Bd2 draws The thing is we have two threats in the original position. A mating net; and if you pay close attention, we are attacking the black's bishop.)
    1... Bb4 2. Ne3+ Ke1 3. Nc2+ (forks king and bishop)
    1... Bf6 2. Bf2 Bg5 3. Nc3 Bh6 4. Ne4 Bf4 5. Kxf4
    1... Bd2 2. Bf2 (Now we achieve the position from my first comment, but with black to move. Black must either concede the c3 or the e3 square to the white knight)

    • @dmaster20ify
      @dmaster20ify 5 месяцев назад

      Well I never saw in my minds eye all those disvered checks. I just said black cant go right because bishop controls the square. Was I blind.
      Anyhow, my solution still looks correct even though you came up with with different solutions. My solution focusing on mate, while yours focusing on discovered checks to win the bishop.
      The problem now is the one position I didn't analyze. After 1. Bb6 Be1 what now? Well...
      2. Ne3+ Kg1 3. Ng2+ Kf1 4. Ba7 (Any bishop move along the diagonal to waste a move. except maybe e3)
      4...Ba5 5. Bd4 ( and now)
      5... Be1 6. Bb5 ( and win like last time)
      5... Bd8 6. Bf2 Bg5 7. Ne1 ( and search for a checking square)

      If Bd2 then white plays Bf2 trapping the king. Black needs to guard e3 so they have to release control of c3 and e1 (preventing bishop trade). Then Nc3 - e4 threatening checkmate from d2 and g3. Black can only guard these squares by Bf4 sacrificing bishop (note that Be1 loses to Ng3). White king can safely take bishop because white bishop is protected by knight.
      This was the my first thought before watching the video. Problem with playing Bf2 right away is that black can play Bd2 and white is in zugzwang.

  • @ashishsrivastav6154

    • @antog9770
      @antog9770 8 месяцев назад

      In that case, it's sufficient to move the knight in g4, controlling both e3, h2 and f2, the black bishop can't defend both e3 and h2 simoultaneously, if not the king can take it while the black king can't retake because the knight defends the bishop in f2. If the bishop defends the main black diagonal you can reach the checkmate aiming to e4 instead of g4 with the same result... Anyway you can reach the checkmate moving only the knight from the move 2
