I used to listen to this while walking my dog alongside a canal. I was in a bad place for a time, but it all came good in the end. I didn't carry it through. 15 years later and I'm finally happy. Just had a lump in my throat listening to this though.
30 November 2018. Always and forever, thank you to Great Britain and the British people whose creativity, since the 1960s, has given the rest of the World hundreds of unique bands such as the Fall and music of unparalleled beauty, quirkiness and atmosphere. What would our lives have been without British bands? Thank you from Sicily.
@@nednedned89 Woke alert! What a daft, uninformed thing to say. As teenagers in the 60s we were well aware of those black artists and we listened to and loved them - Motown, R&B and those old bluesmen , all but forgotten in the States, whose careers got a huge boost because of interest from British kids and bands like the Stones who paid for some of them to fly to the UK to tour here. Champion Jack Dupree lived in Yorkshire for a bit marrying a local girl. The mighty Edwin Starr ("War" - what is it good for?) had a second career here in the northern soul clubs, loved it so much, and how accepted he was, that he settled in Warwickshire, and finally Nottinghamshire, where he is buried. Also you're ignoring a whole swath of artists with no discernible black music influence - Pentangle, Fairport Convention, Cocteau Twins, Kate Bush, MBV and loads of others.
The brilliance on display here will never cease to be amazing. You cannot replicate this either. People in 200 years hence will be talking about The Fall.
Julia Nagle's melodica transforms this into something gorgeous and wistful, better than the shrieking violin of the original. The whole band are great too and of course Mes. One of my fave Fall songs.
I'm sure that's Lucy Rimmer...compare the lady on melodica with the picture on front of Light User Syndrome, pretty sure it's not Julia Nagle. Iirc she wasn't even a member at this time (which, by the return of Brix, puts this performance between 1994 and 1996. I see Dave Bush isn't here so I could narrow it down further with a bit of googling. Pretty sure it's not '96 'cause Karl Burns was back in the band then). EDIT: So, I have The Fallen book and Julia Nagle's picture circa 2006/'07 is in there. And I didn't think it looked like the woman on the front of The Light User Syndrome. But after having a second look, and comparing both pictures in front of me, it was obvious that the slightly older woman in The Fallen IS Julia Nagle. Lol, I dunno why Lucy Rimmer, who was basically a backing vocalist, would have been on the front of LUS. So, mea culpa! It is JUlia Nagle in this great performance, many apologies :)
I have loved The Fall since I heard Rowche Rumble back in 1979, but this is the first time I have listened to this version of the Mixer. Brillient. There has to be a Fall track for every mood.
The band is so tight here. What is that weird semi-acoustic bass the elder Hanley is playing? Give Brix a medal for tenacity, holding it down on a 12-string. What a trooper. The younger Hanley deserves a subsistence pension for life for his sterling efforts.
out of all the bands I love, and there are MANY... these folks consistently prove me wrong the second I feel like I've heard every good thing they have to offer.... case in point, this recording
I still think it was a very lucky evening for my musical culture, when I saw The Fall on MTV's "120 Minutes" so long ago... I didn't understand anything but it felt great, and still does ! Love The Fall !
"Snap, crackle, pop scratchings.Stop recording"I don't know if that's entirely accurate, but it sounds about right for Mark-Fooking quality tune.Love her or hate her,Brix is the star of this performance.Try taking your eyes off her-you can't can you?
I just got around to hearing a bonus track from the comically large expanded edition of The Infotainment Scan. The track is called The Re Mixer and it is mostly a remix of The Mixer but with different Mark vocals in parts of the track. I think maybe the recording on his little player device has material from this remix.
I love the relentless intensity of this performance - they weren't going out there to enjoy themselves (would probably have got a bollocking if they had)
such a damn catchy fine song . so memorable taking me away to another world! Cheers and thanks for posting this! Long Live Mark E Smith and THE FALL! :)
Been a turning point in my life where I just get The Fall. Always been on the fringes since the mid 80s. Finally clicked and barely a song I dislike now. It's like john peel said Always different always the same....bizarre.
Me too. Followed them very casually for 20 years. Had some of the singles, but something clicked last year and I cant get enough of The Mighty Fall now.
congratulations. this excellant video was selected today by the NYC Punk Rock Evolution Foundation. we put up 3 videos by the Fall today. loved ya since first hearing "Various Times" and not knowing who the band was for months.
Another track treasure of "the fall". I have found more than 30 incredibly interesting fall-songs speechless. only in Tom Waits I found more treasures (50) what a lovely group!

Takes fucking balls to type that shit out friend. Wherever you are right now my cap is doffed sir.
Brix is such a vision of sophistication, grace and beauty. What a woman!

Without British bands we may have been forced to listen to the black artists they were influenced by :P

I'd be dead if it wasn't for this music❤️
@@nednedned89 Laura don’t go down that bullshit path.
Well said Nick.
As a mancunian
I thank you too 👍
Love Brix in this. Relentless.
The brilliance on display here will never cease to be amazing. You cannot replicate this either. People in 200 years hence will be talking about The Fall.
every time I listen to this....... I have to listen to it again.
A crapload of times
Absolutely spot on, it's awesome, I love how his recording device doesn't work at the end. Totally love it

And the mixer sweats
Love how the little ball of happy energy that is Brix contrasts with the human sneer that is MES
lol
Done!
I always thought this was the one sweet song that Mark did - he had a connection with another human being for once, it meant something. It's sweet
Brix wasnt on this?
Human sneer 😂
I have loved The Fall since I heard Rowche Rumble back in 1979, but this is the first time I have listened to this version of the Mixer. Brillient. There has to be a Fall track for every mood.
There’s only one problem with this version , it ends ..... classic
This is the best rendition of this song ever. Credit that person who captured it. Brix brilliant in this.
God bless The Fall, in every incarnation.
don't know where to hear better quality of this version 10/10 galloping beat
The band is so tight here. What is that weird semi-acoustic bass the elder Hanley is playing? Give Brix a medal for tenacity, holding it down on a 12-string. What a trooper. The younger Hanley deserves a subsistence pension for life for his sterling efforts.
Rob Petrie There's no younger Hanley there. That's Wolstencroft on drums
Everyone’s tripping out.
Fantastic rhythm guitar playing by Brix
Full on pomp and yet always understated from the Fall. Something seriously special going on here.
The mighty Fall, amazing.
This is an incredible version of 'the mixer'. Absolutely addictive😎
out of all the bands I love, and there are MANY... these folks consistently prove me wrong the second I feel like I've heard every good thing they have to offer.... case in point, this recording
A brilliant track from a very under-rated album. RIP Mark.
Maybe the best album IMO - Book of Lies through The Mixer is pretty much perfection
@@magneticB Agree!
pretty much every single track by them, one day you'll realize it's one of their very best...
Yeah, this is something special.
The Fall - Best Band Ever!
Without Doubt
One of the Greatest Bands ❤
I still think it was a very lucky evening for my musical culture, when I saw The Fall on MTV's "120 Minutes" so long ago... I didn't understand anything but it felt great, and still does ! Love The Fall !
Love this. Brix is giving it some welly, strumming there like theres no tomorrow.
Anything The Fall tries, always works.
Every now & then I come & watch & listen to this! Good song!
Another weirdly infectious Fall song.

Thank you for the host of mind-blowing songs. No one else in my time did so much
love that melodica. MES was a big Augustus Pablo fan
The Fall ...and all who played in her , cos they were the ones who made it . Bless Brix for strumming her heart out . Funky Si !
National treasure. Unique and huge talent.
This is such a fantastic version. Beats the Shift Work track.
Fantastic version and i love Brix excellent contribution on guitar xx
What a bass-line. And yes, an outstanding version of this song
Absolutely fucking awesome live performance... Mark E Smith .. Legend..

Fantasticaaaahhh!

Absolutely deadly.
This is much better than the record, so it's a shame the sound quality is so poor. Brix is beautiful!!
