This is so cool!!! WTG Travis!!! I guess he accidently bumped the throttle @1:39 and scared the poopies out of his crew. Glad no one was in the way.
He did. Learning. More time and runs he'll be just fine.
Scotty Palmer is simply an AMAZING human being.
Never fails to impress when the engine cuts over to nitro. Just...wow.
He did a great pedal job on that 2nd run, had the knowledge to not stay in it when the tires lit up. Good thing the throttle stop was still in place during that reverse back to the line on the first run, that could've been much worse.
Awesome Travis, hope to see more of this with Travis behind the wheel.
lol that burp on the backup was wild haha
This was a humbling experience 😆 hes pretty much raced everything under the sun and it just goes to show how demanding these cars are
Travis Pastrana is the man he can drive anything with an engine ⚡️😁🙌💯✅
Proud to be Scott’s Friend!!
Needs a little more time behind the wheel and I think he’ll do great! I think it’d be cool to see someone like Cleetus McFarland do it. He can drive just about anything
Right! Just time. Big adjustment for anyone.
I definitely want to see @Cleetus McFarland do this!
@@brandonrenwick9125 I wonder if he would fit lol
Having flashbacks of watching Travis make his first ever passes in Bradenton driving Cleetus' Car Ruby. Definitely did better this time.
@@ls1jeeper 🤪🤣😂
He is known as the giraffe. 🦒
Hey Travis nice dragster ever take it off any sweet jumps
Awesome,it’s about time son! Lol!
Well that's awesome Travis Pastrana to see you in the Top Fuel dragster I really do hope you had a good time cannot wait to see you in one again?
The crew looked like chaos on the track in my opinion.
Respect for sure.. Funny when he had backed up, and blipped the throttle and everyone jumped. I am sure Travis is used to doing throttle blips checking response. See 1:34 . First time doing this with a 10,000 hp top fuel. I'll bet it surprised him as well.. Its was like a 155 howitzer going off when no one is expecting it!! lol
Grabir01 could have been very NOT funny very quickly! Bet he doesn't do that again! He needs to have a pre-run procedure and the crew NEEDS to know generally what that procedure is... Other than that, he should be fine.
He did well! Hope we can get him in with us!
thanx for that amazing inside look vid !!
Hopefully he gets some more seat time and a license, he'd be fun to watch.
Awesome guy. Literally does everything.
Nitro Circus Top Fuel Team with Travis Pastrana would be interesting to the sport
Man can you imagine that! I was thinking the same thing. Travis would bring in alot of spectators forsure. 👍😉
Thanks for sharing!
He is already trying to figure out how to do a flip in it.. Perth loves you brother 🇦🇺
Yes Travis! 🥳 🎉
I love this... I support Travis in any motorsport just give him time to figure it out
Travis is my hero and subie God, beyond stoked to see him get seat time in top fuel. Practice makes perfect I hope he keeps going for it, I know they say never meet your heros but I'd be willing to take that chance. Legend in my eyes
"They" are idiots!
I've met about 3,643 of my heroes and been let down I think twice. I'm talking about guys who I wanted to play quarterback like, young women on TV I wanted to date, INDY 500 winners, Oscar winners, Grammy winners, World Series winners, Supercross champion, Superbowl champions, Wimbledon champions, Masters champions, you name it.
But this isn't about them, it's about Travis.
I've had the pleasure of being around Travis Pastrana for about 22 years and other than being wiser and more sophisticated, he is exactly the same person today as he was then. Genuine, empathetic, caring, passionate, compassionate, respectful, kind, enthusiastic, extraordinarily talented, absolutely committed, and spends the most quality time with each individual fan as the situation allows.
I can not think of one of the individuals I'm thinking about [and referencing/not an exaggeration] above who is better with fans than Travis. Many fantastic, perfect with fans or VIP's, dreams come true, none better than Travis.
In short, if you have the chance to hang out with Travis or say hello to him, do it. He'll teach you how to treat people.
@@showtime951 that's what I love to hear, thank you for that
When you drive a top fuel dragster and it's the safest thing you've ever done. 😁
Best part of this video is those wicked wrecks and gassers at the end.
It's a beautiful thing Travis you just keep it up you'll be fine you'll be flipping it around like a dirt bike but in the straight line
Here we go!
Yes!!! FINALLY!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
A little sketchy but dammit Travis Way to go brother that take some stones two thumbs up for Scott Palmer how friggin cool hooking Travis up with a ride in his top fuel dragster
Oh look I was the 199 th Like, looks like Travis will have to continue with some nitro.
Man. Just about took out 2 crew members when he whacked the throttle in reverse! YOU NEVER touch the throttle in reverse.
I had an a-fuel driver remark that it's easier to do than many would think. It's all part of learning. Different environment.
@@MondayMorningRacer I know of a A fuel dragster that they let a new guy try to make a pass and the same deal. He accidentally ran over his brother. The fellow passed away. I don't know how you could make sure it never happens but there is a way
It happens. It's dangerous up there on the line. It all happens very quickly. I almost had a funny car take me out in testing once.
OK first screw up already mentioned, split second longer he would have had a tower view. Don't know if anything was edited out but not sure because of the computer speaker on the 2nd hit ether rolled or just pedaled the throttle. Would strongly recommend do a few in a TD and or TAD and learn ALL the other things involved in drag racing. I would think it would come very easy & quick to you.
@@chuckpettit3356 Yeah a few runs in a slower car would be the absolute way to go. Tony Stewart went to Frank Hawley's for this reason. Simple mistakes are exponentially worse in a Top Fuel car.
Forget those guys ! Put Stevie Fast Jackson in it ! Championships ! Keith
Cracked me up when he was backing up the guys behind shit themselves 😅😂❤
No need to mention how lethal these machines are..watching and listening to a top fueler is like having a seat next to Hieronymous Bosch as he painted 'The Garden of Earthly Delights'..
Man nitro cars are amazing! Words can't do em justice. If you've never been just go and thank me later
Legendary
This guy and cleetus are just built different. Can race anything.
It was just a matter of time we hen we would see Pastana behind the wheel of a Top Fuel or Funny Car.. this guy is the true king of speed
Done way better than I thought.
Cool.
I need someone new to root for in the TF category.
TAKE NOTE: Travis, with his throttleman is currently the points leader in the Class 1 Offshore Powerboat World Championships piloting the incredibly fast and nimble "Huski Chocolate"-sponsored racing boat.
The only other racer of the last two generations whose learning curve, resume, creativity, expertise, and willingness to take risk that can be compared to Travis Pastrana's is multi-discipline and many time Champion Robby Gordon.
Way to go TP
Awesome TSR is doing this.
Tony was there and giving some pointers but this is all on Alex Laughlin and Scott Palmer making this happen.
@@MondayMorningRacer yea I know I didnt word it right at all. He and his wife were there helping.
Yep! It was cool to see so many personalities onlooking and hanging out.
He said cleetus thanks for letting me drive your cute little toy .... hold ma beer
Travis you know the smartest thing a racer can do is knowing when to let off . Smashing the man's car wouldn't prove anything . Good run brother . PK
From PR Travis and Alex #1
I think it'll be awesome if he gets a full run in , who knows maybe he'll stick around
That’s how ya know there’s nothing easy about professional drag racing.
Not the best runs but respect he got in there. Those things aren’t a joke.
Taping the throttle in reverse. Scott's like oh fu%$, what did I get myself in to
Is he? Where did he say that?
That was a good thing they still had the throttle stop on before the throttle whack. That could have been catastrophic
@@i-_-am-_-g1467 its a joke bud... leave the autism at home.
He has no business in that car until he knows how to operate it. That was brutal
Wonder what power that thing makes just at an idle ,probly more than most normal drag cars
Not as easy as just going in a straight line huh? Lol. Bet that was something he’s never experienced before and I’m so jelly and happy for him.
Travis and Cleetus can both drive anything.
Monday- Monday - Monday !!!
If you know what you're watching, this is an incredible demonstration of how powerful a top fuel car really is. I mean, Travis is not known for being scared of speed and he didn't even make it to the 1/8th before lifting.
He may be getting his license..can’t go past 1/8th until he gets it
@@ronhaase1290here's someone who actually knows what he's talking about.
Same for Brittney. She did a ton of runs in Vegas switching from TA to TF.
Licencing runs indeed
Either getting his license or it was planned shut off
I'm really surprised he didn't say I need to get one of these
he can drive everything....😎
I'm sure they had the motor kill switch close at hand and may have used it. Might have been the audio but RPM sounded way too high at idle. Any way good to see he got a few shorties in, prolly 200 mph just in those short runs. All good!
In one of the other videos Travis said they killed the engine both times. Curious how that works, though. Is it just a remote fuel cutoff?
Whoa!
Too many cooks in the kitchen on that line!
That's funny, he does have nitro everything 🤣
Lil’ scary on the first backup. Whew.
Throttle whack in reverse😰
Yes that could have been a major mess up.
any idea how much compression these motors run to take advantage of the nitro?
About 6.5:1
@@kylestoevsand4523 thanks for the answer, but that can't be right. without a blower their C.R. needs to be sky high for a naturally aspirated motor to take advantage pf the nitro.
@@johnbecay3859 google is your friend..
@@kylestoevsand4523 i asked the question to the community at large.in hopes of engaging in a stimulating conversation with like-minded individuals. Nitro without blowers has been around a long time. none of the attempts have been very successful. did you know the NHRA had--and may still have-- a rule that says non blown nitro cars can participate in alcohol; dragster and funny car classes?
1:35 how to scare the fuck outta someone in 3 2 1
He’s hooked but I think he suits being in top fuel funny car
Pants shitted.
Did he just name drop the legend Tony Steward?
Does this mean Travis has officially tried almost every motor sport?
Remember when Cleetus Macfarland let Travis drive Ruby, and it being the fastest he had ever been? Look at you now Travis! Ruby is still the fastest you have ever been in the 1/4 mile. Lol
Minute 1:38 is that the team is all shocked. fly a thunderbolt
Can't imagine what that little whack in reverse would of looked like if someone had prematurely removed the throttle stop! The safety/protocols y'all have in place really makes a difference when a mistake occurs. We are all human which means we are going to make mistakes. Y'all make sure you bill him for every pair of underwear he messed up pulling this little stunt😂😂😂
No training wheels?
The 4 lane drag way
I'm sure he's had more seat time than this video, but still did pretty dam good! Little sketchy on the first backup! Was the car having reverser issues or was it Travis? Both times it looked like it wouldn't go in reverse? Look forward to seeing his progression. You don't just hop in one of these and master it. You learn to respect it first!
This was his first time period. The reverser is harder to engage than what people think. The second time the car was idling to high for anyone to get it in reverse until the crew member presses the blades.
@@MondayMorningRacer wow, he did better than I thought then. I know the reverser is tricky. Aren't you supposed to have a license or certification to make a pass in a fuel car on an NHRA sanctioned track? Not trying to be a dick, legitimately curious.
@@johnobrien6052 it's somewhat of a catch in that it's similar to "you need 6 months experience" but you won't hire me. Travis, and anyone else for that matter has to incrementally build up to a full pull. The first pass was a planned click off at about 150ft. The second pass was intended to be longer but it veered a bit towards the wall and he peddled but the box holder (who happened to be Aaron Brooks) clicked him off. Also, Lonnie Grimm, the national technical director for the NHRA was on sight as well.
@@MondayMorningRacer good deal. It just came across as Travis just walked up, said his hello's to the team and hopped right in the car and fired it up... I hope he catches the itch and sticks with it! If he wants to test himself mentally and physically, he should check out Drag and Drive drag racing.... This is some tough shit! No backflips?
Luckily nobody died
I've seen worse. You're just getting to see it. Stuff happens when someone is learning.
It's just part of the learning process, I'm sure it will never happen again
How so?
@@i-_-am-_-g1467 I'm sure he got quite the talking too after that, and that, along with how much I imagine it scared him, I highly doubt it will ever happen again.
The way NHRA has been dying off for some time now. This is exactly what it needs. By putting someone that can damn near drive anything very well and has the fan base that he does would definitely bring a bigger crowd to watch. Plus give great promotion for the sport .
Thats a lot of raw fuel spitting out of there. They got somemore tuning to do...
i think I heard the reverser cry out in pain...
@1:36 Brown pants moment.
Looks like he needs to learn reverse or better yet get back on 2 wheels!
Well, that attitude doesn't help the sport. I've seen worse. Everybody has got to learn and given time to do so. He did just fine on the second one.
It's good that we are bringing new people into the sport, not everyone is going to start out as good as John Force. Just a part of learning
Ralph- and you're entire experience in a nitro car is...zero. Way to toss the comment from the cheap seats.
@@HaddockAutomotive I agree, but starting at Top Fuel seems a bit reckless. I assume your Dad would want you to learn in something a bit more more forgiving to start.
@@xPr1m3 Yes, that's true, I see what you mean, maybe he should have started at something slower
Maybe some time in a Alcohol dragster would be a better starting place? Pilots don't start out running 747's they work they way up to it 🤔
Why the hell is he staging so far back? And what was he doing 1/16 mile runs?
Travis Pastrana is a energy junky that men will do anything with engine and four wheels lol
I got this.... sure you do
From the brief interview with him and chatting didn't sense that attitude at all.
Wow you people really are so jealous
Should of put 199 on it lol
Well, at least he didn't run over anyone.
Shit.. I can pilot a TF dragster. I been drag racing motorcycles all my life. All I need is the opportunity 🙏 💯..
But you are not someone who is ever going to bring massive amounts of publicity to top fuel, Travis is.
The opportunities are out there. Just contact Terry Haddock.
The the Hell happen at 1:38 that did not look right he floored it backwards then luckily breaked ... Did anyone see that too??? That was sketchy😲
When you have driven pretty much everything and you think you have been fast.... someone hands you the keys to a top fueller...
Why is reverse so hard to find in the dragster? Travis is no stranger to race cars, so I assume it must be an unusual procedure…
Well, in these two cases from my observation it's not so much finding it as will it go in reverse. If the car is idling high it won't go in reverse for anyone. That's why the crew member pushed on the blades of the supercharger hat. They causes the idle to go down and then reverse can be engaged.
@@MondayMorningRacer ahh ok. So, with the high idle is the car making too much power for the clutch to work?
I wonder how much torque/HP a nitro motor makes at idle?
You have to remember that during the burnout the blades on the blower may open like 1/4" if that.
@@Chainsaw-ASMR try this video. Maybe it will help fill in the blanks.
ruclips.net/video/OSFDmSXHJEc/видео.html
There is no real reverse or transmission. It's a small planetary gear on the back of the bell housing.
Damn what are people in these comments so negative for
Because it’s 2022…..it’s the “cool” way to be apparently now
because they are all championship winning TFD/TFFC drivers and crew chiefs, and know everything too lol
It's called jealousy, Travis doesn't deserve this in their eyes because he hasn't worked for it according to them, even though this is done purely for publicity to bring light to the sport of top fuel... you know that sport they claim to care so much about?
They're a classic case of Dunning Kruger
I think, at its core, it is due to the depravity of man. They have an introspective self loathing that can only be counteracted by demeaning another made apparent through envy and or a lack of knowledge which is probably wilful ignorance or simply stupidity.
All those people need to stand back with a brand new driver! My God that could have been very bad when he was backing up! Wow never seen anything like that
These little mishaps are more common than what folks may think during licensing. It's just a matter of not getting to see it most of the time. I'm one of the few people out there that does film testing at times.
Nitro dragsters racing are probably the loudest thing you'll ever hear, and possibly the very last.
1:36 yikes
1:37 😳😳😳😳😳😳 but then..😐😐😐😐😐😐
