    This isn’t an original comment, and I can’t find who to give credit to. To help you get the BBs down the paracord, use a fork and slide the paracord between the prongs. Then, slide the BBs down. This trick is a lifesaver!

    • @Skinflaps_Meatslapper
      @Skinflaps_Meatslapper Месяц назад

      This trick is great if you're only encountering modest resistance. I've had some paracord sheath that was so tight it would've just bent the fork over without budging. I tried pulling it through a tubing flare kit in a vise with my full weight, taking rounded jewelry pliers and pinching them through, and even attempted to run it through my rolling mill hoping it would pinch the sheath and push the bb's along (it didn't work, it just pinched the strands of the weave and damaged them). Ultimately what I ended up doing was using a thin steel rod in my vise to ram each bb through while I did my best to widen the sheath and push it over each bb while tugging on the other end. Man that was such a nightmare, I dunno how many times I was on the verge of calling it quits and finding some different paracord to use. My thumbnails hurt for a week after from trying to pinch and roll each individual thread over the bb a millimeter at a time in desperation. Took me the better part of an afternoon just to load the core up with bb's. One thing is incontrovertible though, those bb's will never EVER move from their final resting place within that paracord...they don't even need a knot or sinew to hold them in place. And the worst part is that I ordered the exact same paracord from the same company Nick used, I was sitting there watching his video with bb's almost falling through with hardly any resistance by comparison thinking it would be a piece of cake. Never again, I'm using 650 paracord for bb's or loading regular paracord up with #12 shot instead.

    I am making this whip and the lengths for the first belly are incorrect. The first dropped strand occurs about 4 inches before the end of the BBs. I have started over twice; I ended up adding length to the 4 foot and 2 1/2 foot strands. Are the lengths correct for the second belly? I guess I am about to find out.

    To keep measurements at top.
    Do I need to add 1" to each of the strands or 2" as each strand folds over to compensate for when we chop off?
    Example: 1st belly would be: 2 x 11'2", 1 x 4'2", 1 x 2'8" or just one inch total before folding?

Can you confirm for the overlay strands which measurements went with which color? Thanks!

    I'm a little late to the party but Walmart has Paracord 1000 heavy duty that accepts bb's well for core strand. If you use it on a bullwhip on a 1/4" rod you need to grind it down a bit with a belt grinder but that also helps keep bulk down when fitted flush for transition bindings

  • @yuenrw

    Ok...hey Nick....im trying to make a longer snake whip based off this video and the measurements given on ur website for the bull whip. I have read that the weighted core should run about a third of the way down the length of the whip...my question is: for the 1st overlay over the core... Should there be any of the core exposed at the end when starting the 2nd overlay? Or should the taper be solely determined by dropping strands on the way down the whip? The reason I ask is because going off of the 8-foot strand measurements on your website by the time I'm done platting the the 1st overlay on the core and dropping all the strands... I only end up with about three and a half feet of plaited whip on that 1st overlay. Thanks

    Nick is there a difference in artificial sinew? You seem to always use black sinew, I have a more natural looking sinew and doesnt seem to hold as well. Is it possible that I'm just not tightening it down enough?

    This might of already been asked and covered before, but here is an issue I am running into. My plaits tend to be lopsidded. I will have a short pattern on the "top side" and longer on the "back side". Is there a way to correct this?

    So I’m following this video to a T and have exactly 1 foot of B.B. loaded paracord as the core plus the 2 feet and 1 extra inch for error. However when it comes to the first belly, the first strand is dropping short of the end of the B.B. loaded core. Is there a reason for this? Should I keep plating? Should I make the 2 1/2 foot piece bigger?

    • @ThePappygretsch
      @ThePappygretsch 6 лет назад +3

      That’s the same prob I’m having. The strands only 15” long after a knot is tied. Hardly seems long enough to cover a 12” core of BBs.

      I also ran into that problem, i think the lengths are half of the strand. So the 2'6" is from the knot to the end... maybe?

  • @chadalexander7218
    @chadalexander7218 4 года назад +1

    I added an extra 6 inches to the cord length for the 1st belly and still fell short by about 3 inches of making it to the end of the BBs. It would help if you rather said "strands drop at x y and z lengths from the butt" and I could just cut them at that distance. At this point I'm just going to add like 2 feet of cord to all measurements and eyeball it as I go.

    • @jackdeidolci
      @jackdeidolci 3 года назад +1

      yes, mine were short too...I'd add 1 ft on the shorter strands of the first belly and - unfortunately - on the third belly too.

    Fun build but I came up short on the overlay both times I built it. Ends up rather chunky when finished at 2.5 feet but still does overhead and backhanded side flicks well enough. I can just barely get a coachman's out of it some of the time.

    Is there anything I can use to replace the hockey tape, and the sinew?
    Where I`m from those are kinda expensive to buy, and importing em isn`t that much better.

    • @NicksWhipShop
      @NicksWhipShop  4 года назад

      You can use the inner strands of the paracord for binding. The tape helps a lot, but it is not 100% needed.

      By the look of the dropped black strands on this whip I’d have to say the shorter strands are black.
      But I think I’m gonna use one black and one color strand of the longest length so the pattern will reach all the way to the end. I think it’ll look better.

When I'm rolling and get to about the 6 plait portion, I notice that it's more flat than round and it instead drags along the ground and not rolling. Is there some way to make it more round during construction?

Curious as to regulation on those as far as competition. Any stats you would care to share would be greatly appreciated. These videos of yours are awesome! BTW, I’m a bit of a storm chaser myself. if you get a new hot glue gun, i believe you can get a sponge type thing to keep the tip clean (if you wipe it immediately after use which helps it apply clean, but i may be full of myself so i'm not saying doing it i'm saying looking into it may be beneficial. also i wanted to ask what would happen if you cut the sinew after going down and instead of going back up went down again but in the other direction? Don't worry my question comes from curiosity not from me thinking of doing it myself.

    In cutting your core you say 12 inches plus 3 inches for shrinkage and then add one inch. However you then say it's 14 inches total.
