- Time lapse video with voice over - drawing a dog's eye from a not so great reference. How you can get realism into your drawings using bright colours. Following the photo, looking at shapes, but adding colours and taking away anything that doesn't necessarily work. I'm using Faber Castell Polychromos and a white Caran D'Ache Museum Aquarell. The paper I'm using is Clairefontaine Pastelmat Dark Grey.
You are a true life saver! I have just started selling pet portraits from photos over the last 6 months, the amount of people that give me photos where I can't see the eyes!! OMG it's frustrating! I'm self taught & your tutorials have helped me improve so much. Thank you!!
Lisa P thank you 😊 it’s so frustrating isn’t it!
Thank you for sharing, Bonnie!! This is SO appreciated!!!!! :-D
Kharmagain my pleasure 😊
I love your channel!!! just found it :) I really love that you make in depth tutorials. There are a lot of time lapses of realistic drawings, but not so many tutorials of realistic drawings. I feel like your video's are really helpful. I'm always trying to improve my art, now I really want practice drawing more realistic. I'm pretty young, so I haven't completely found my exact style, but I feel like practicing realism is one of the best ways of improving my skill level. That's because there's a ton of basics in realism like shadows, proportions, and highlights. You can always change your art style afterwards.
ALEXtraordinary art thank you 😊 I’m trying to put together videos that would have helped me when I started 😊
This is wonderful! I bet you could make a whole series of videos about ways to make bad reference photos work, since it pretty much comes with the territory. Thanks Bonny!
Conjure Fine Art thank you 😊 I have loads of ideas for poor Ref videos 😊
Amazing again. Thank you Bonny.
This will help me a lot, thanks!
Sabine Leppanen thank you 😊
Thank you so much. This was great. I'm new to dog portraits and have just been casually offering to do friends dogs but often get a really bad cell phone pic. I've been making changes but I feel like now you've given me permission. 😉 I've been following you on Instagram and love your work!
Emma Devost thank you so much 😊 poor refs are awful but there are things you can do to help 😊
Very helpful Bonny! I just got a new doggie, who has amazingly expressive eyes, so when I end up drawing him, I can use himself as a reference (if he will sit still long enough! ). Thank you!
Thanks Paula - I hope I get to see the drawing when it’s done 😊
Bonny Snowdon Fine Art, I will defintely share what I come up with!
First animal eye ive ever tried to draw, was a trainwreck, your eye is completely different from the reference, made it very confusing, guess i should have just picked one instead of get caught between the two. Think i'll try something easier.
Hi Bonny. Thank you so much for this video. It has been a great help! I was wondering how you deal with the kind of photographs where the dog's eyes are just completely black, and you cannot find any highlights in it?
I tend to look at the lighting in the whole piece. You’ve got to be careful not to change the lighting in the eyes too much so keeping them as the photo is a good bet 🥰
Beautifull eye Bonny better than the photo
Joy Ellis thank you 😊
