HOW I MIRROR FINISH A BAR
I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it.

Back again for a scorching hot Friday video. Only two weeks into summer where I'm located and I can tell you it's not that fun melting in this heat .
Today I go for a bit of a drive to my mates scrapyard where I pick up two great pieces, one is a 75 kg water motor of sorts, and the other is a 300 kg plus old Welder from the 1930s or 40s (i'll have more info on the welder when I release that video ).
I cant wait to be melting down that Welder in a future video as it's gonna be a big one. I'm guessing 30 or 40 kg of Copper at least in the big piece. Anyway enough rambling. Enjoy the video feel free to comment and most importantly, have an awesome weekend and I'll see all you beautiful people on the next one👌🏻😁

Pure aluminum ingot sinks in the center, un-pure aluminum hardens flat? Did I understand that correctly? Thanks for the video, it's in the 30 degree fahrenheit area here for me..lol..trade you this cold for that warmth..lol

    • @bigstackD
      @bigstackD  Год назад +5

Rickshaw3005 yes mate when it’s pure aluminium it always has the shrinkage in the middle or in the sprews/risers that can’t be avoided, but when melting things that aren’t pure aluminium and are obviously alloyed with something else the shrinkage isn’t there for some reason. It can be 97-98% aluminium, but just that tiny bit of added other stuff whatever it may be gives a nice flat bar.

Thanks for the great comments guys 👊🏻😁yes it’s very time consuming. The longest part of the whole process is getting the right angles, the right lighting, keeping certain shadows out of screen, never showing a tripod leg or camera reflection etc, but the longest time of everything is the editing which can sometimes take 12-15 hours on these videos. But I don’t mind the editing side of it as I can come inside or sit on the deck and be with the boys👌🏻🐾🐾

Right, it is obvious as to how much work goes into each weekly video!!!! Which I'm glad he does them weekly, and not everyday posting. While gaming channels can't do weekly, and pretty much have to post daily. And far less physical labor has to be put into daily games.
      BigstackD makes it look easy

I hope it’s rewarded you greatly through the years

Couldn't help but to notice the organ that you took apart and melted awhile ago was intact and standing there untouched. You have to have footage from all manner of time. Like you collected these motors way back before melting the organ bits, but are just now getting to the tear-down and melting of these motors. Don't get me wrong, when good pieces come along, you have to get them even though you may not be ready to melt them for us. Just funny to see. I am a medically retired sheriff so I see more of whats going on in the background than most others pay attention too. Old habits... I'm here to watch all your videos BigStackD, not going anywhere unless you do! Love the corny humor too, and of course the monkeys...

I RECOGNIZE THAT PUMP! I cut many of these at my last job! These things were such a pain in the backside to cut. Cast iron! Not steel.
Also! You may want to check that middle piece you knocked out. It may be either brass or bronze. I know we use either stainless steel, brass, or bronze for the impeller. I'm not sure which one for that model though.

No worries at all my friend, I’ll definitely have a look as it’s still sitting in the steel scrap pile I’ve got here , hopefully it is brass and if it is I will definitely show it in a future video👊🏻😁

Def. one of the better copper pours you've done in a while. I think you should give up on the graphite molds for copper, they all seem to come out holey and misshapen from them, especially of the last year or so, big D!

it's always amazing to see the manufacturers of the motors put just enough copper in to fill the mold right up to the top. Either that or the mold makers have figured out the correct size of the mold for the motor you decide to melt. Either way, it's amazing!

You know its just the selfish part of me but appreciating, as I do, the effort you always put in to the collection, stripping down, material selection and finally, melting, my question is, since you have such a lot to do in the future, would you consider a weekend marathon melt? Taking the majority of, cleanish, metals and just melting it all in one big sesh? I'd be up for that, of course.

I would love nothing better than to just spend a couple of days purely melting and building the stack, but it’s more of a time restrictive thing. As you’ll see some days I won’t start till 10 or 12 o’clock sometimes later as with the property and my job I simply don’t have much time to spare, but hopefully if the channel picks up I could maybe do this for a living one day and get more melts out🤞🏻😁

Been very humid and hot over here in Queensland to. About 36°c today which isn't too hot. Your backyard looks a lot like mine but I have rows of macadamia nut trees growing then the hill is mowed and leads down to a lovely spring fed creek so it's always clear and clean and we have an awesome swimming hole in the natural remaining rainforest. No one swims without first showering with a pH neutral soap and no sunscreen lotion as it pollutes the clean water. There's a small granite out crop above the after hole with a small cave which we often go and relax when it is hot cause its sheltered by the trees. I won't ever sell 👍👍
