- We're currently in quarantine with COVID-19 going on. We decided to get up early this morning and take our cameras to shoot sunrise in Santa Monica. There are so many updates throughout the day with what's going on in the world and things are always changing and/or up in the air. In times of uncertainty and moments that can be filled with anxiety, we decided to hold close to nature and honor the things that are unchanging like the sun rising each morning. We found so much peace within the stillness and wanted to share what these mornings look like through our lens.
Disclaimer: we were completely isolated and were the only two people during this shoot and then we went straight home. ;)
Camera - Leica M-A
Film - Expired Kodak Portra 800
Developing Kit - Cinestill TCS 1000, Tetenal C-41 Mix
Scanner - Epson v850
Music: Sherwin Uy
What a great start .. hope to see more ..
Good to see some real photography and your lovely Leica. Something your quite proud of I can tell..
Thank you so much for the kind words! We definitely have gone out early in the morning a few more times since this date. Just need to develop the film to show it to you! Can't wait for you to see the next one!
Just found your channel, beautiful format and images. Keep it up!
thank you man! we've hit a little road bump in pumping out content trying to find the write music to add to the content, but we'll be sure to get on it soon! :) Thanks for the support!
This video deserves so many views! Fantastic
Thank you so much! Been meaning to put out more content but hopefully you'll enjoy the next one as well!
I love this video!! I shows the meditative quality of shooting and developing film. I want to see more.
Ernest Lesmana thank you so much for the encouragement! We plan to do this once or twice a week during these chaotic times and hopefully people enjoy the footage while they’re safe at home. We know times are pretty rough for a lot of families, but hopefully we can spread some peace through this continuing body of work.
Great vid! How are you still loving M-A? I am cannot seem to decide between buying MP or MA.. read so many reviews, but interested in your ultimate deciding factor in choosing the MA.
Brilliant, beautiful work.
hello how many liters does the bowl contain and what diameter does it have? I have a black M-A, exactly like yours :-)
this channel deserved more views. Hope you are still making videos.
we appreciate the love! We are still shooting a lot of film, but we have to put out some content for you all! Thanks for your patience!
hahah we have the exact same office set up! Great video!
the music sounded so close to Andy Caldwell's I can't wait (acoustic version). Cozy video format. nice and simple
oh my goodness it totally does start off in a similar way! We just asked a family member to make a song that fits the video and he recorded the music on his iPhone.
beautiful work.
Nice comfy looking place 😊 and nice shots!
haha thank you! :)
Nice Video!!
Nice video! I have the Leica MP and I love it :)
Thank you! We plan to put out more since this to bring a little peace and serenity throughout this time in quarantine!
Your video makes me buy Leica M-A...
they just came back in stock online at Leica Store Miami ;)
Great videos, do you have plans to make any more?
amazing shoots ❤️
That was very pleasing to watch
Thank you!!!
Why not slide film?
It definitely something we would love to do, but at the moment, we don't have another tank nor the chemicals to process e-6 slide film. It definitely on our list of things to experiment with! We also have a variety of black and white film to shoot and experiment with and it may be more realistic for us to invest in black and white chemicals first before we dive into e-6. We don't plan to use the same tank for different film processes to avoid any cross contamination.
Great video, love the setup you are using
Thank you! We appreciate the love! We need to finish off the next roll so we can develop it, but we have a few more sunrise sessions on the way!
my friend, you don’t have to load your film like that...just push it and let 5mm in the “petal” on the left side, no more. close the door, arm two time looking forvthe two red dot to turn and....shoot picture number zero....+ the last one 38 wich make 39 picture per roll, sometime 40 !
Thank you! We definitely do not load film like this anymore :) A few months after we made this video, we entered Joe Greer & Matt Day's film loading challenge with this: instagram.com/tv/CFLQBMInUAt/
Hey! What printer is that visible at 5:18?
Canon pro 10s?
Nice! What lens were you using? And why did you select Portra 800 for this?
We switch between a 50mm summilux & a 28mm summilux!
As for why the portra 800 - it's actually a roll that expired in 2016. We wanted to see what the grain structure would be like and hopefully compare the photographs in the future to a roll that didn't expire. We also anticipated we would be shooting in pretty low like conditions considering we showed up at the beach about an hour before sunrise. We exposed the film at 400 so we went into it knowing we'd have some pretty slow exposures without a shutter release cable available
@@connieandstewart The pics turned out great but I did note that they looked a bit overly grainy. It could have been the expired portra. Also check to make sure that your scanners isn't adding sharpening when you scan cause that can accentuate grain.
@@dmarker21 Thank you and thanks for the insight! A couple of reason for the grain could be like you mentioned, shooting on expired Portra 800 film, but we also could have over agitated during developing (we were continuously agitating vs agitating for 5 seconds in 30 second intervals). I believe in vuescan we turned off the sharpening and any sharpening we did add, we did in post in Lightroom after converting the negative with Negative Lab Pro.
@@connieandstewart My guess would be that the constant agitation was the main factor adding to the increased grain. But I've never developed color film before so I give you much respect for doing it yourself!
That Cinestill kit looks rad! Booooo they're out of stock. :(
the tcs-1000 is a solid buy! Anova's Sous Vide would do the same thing to keep temps under control and consistent, but my wife and I for some reason just don't like mixing kitchen stuff with photo even if it's just in a container filled with water hahaha
Oh no, you don't where gloves? Those C41 chemicals are not great for the skin (they're carcinogenic). Great set up all the same!
thumbs up.very cute video . at this specific part of the beach ive met at least thousand of sunsets . back to film, that's INSANE to deal with film AFTER one burned through it (used it ) its nonsensical - half a room is equipment , chemicals , tons hassle , ton a time , so then eventually couple of mundane photographs THAT has to be physically stored . I just can't put myself into this position EVEN though I admire film camera that so ive got on top of plenty Ms an M11d ... to avoid nuisances above .
all and all very cute kindly video . nice was to see my home , almost , I used to live on the corner of Arizona and second st , next to ;now outa business; SHANGRI LA , right on top of that famous bluff behind the girl .
so long. @georges_angeles
