Love your show!! We look forward to it every week. Enjoy the combine!
I believe the Habs will build the team from the draft, then add what they need. Doing it that way, they will become sure of their drafting and developing system, tailoring players to roles and getting good returns on them.
Great show as always! Love listening to your insights!

This podcast means so much to me
Much has been said about Josh Anderson needing to improve next year... For Anderson to bounce back, should the Habs build a line around him? Should they consider what types of players would allow Josh to thrive?
Josh is not key player of the future IMO. There's 0 reason why Canadiens should build around him.
I don't think it's a winning strategy to build for a 30yrs old winger who has only one season over 32pts in his career (yet just 47pts)...
Don't forget Laval is still playing with a lot of Marc Bergevin's picks. Next season there will be more of the new management's picks begin to join the Rocket
Hugo and team have done an excellent job in developing Bergevin's picks both in Laval and at the NHL level. Players that come to mind are Caufield, Xhekaj, Guhle, Roy, Struble, Harris Mailloux.... Also, JF Houle was signed by Bergevin. Unfortunately development when Bergevin was GM was significantly lacking in every phase of the organization and his 1st round picks were mostly a disaster.
another great show!! TY
Great episode. Looking forward to your thoughts on the combine
This opening song is really growing on me
Me too lol
@@undeadchrist me too
Do you risk trading Calgary’s pick next year to try and get another pick in the top 5, Ducks or Jackets???? Then you can get demidov and Lindstrom, and trade jets pick and move into the top 12 and get Sennecke
What’s the différence between Michkov, who was projected second overall, and Demidov Who is also projected second.
Evans and Armia are both quality veterans who could sign short-term, relatively inexpensive contracts. Why not resign them.
Habs PK has been terrible with them and they offer little offensively albeit Armia did have a career year in goals. Armia earns circa $3.4M so he will probably be looking for that to resign (he has proven he isn't worth that). He is also 31 so isn't a fit for when Habs become competitive. Younger players in the AHL will be ready after next season. Beck projects to be an upgrade on Evans and is 8 years younger. With Habs expected to draft a goal scorer along with a trade for a top 6, Newhook probably slots in at 3C so no room for Evans, especially if Habs draft a centre.
I disagree with the Owen Beck projections
He's cut from the same cloth as Nick Suzuki. Similar point production in the juniors. Both very intelligent players.
There have been no indications that he's incapable of being a second line centre.
I think last year it was fair to assess him as a bottom 6 player but he's taken massive strides and I suspect he will continue to do so.
No way you want him as a second center in the new skilled nhl !! If he is our second center we in the bottom of the league witch would be sad so third in best world but realistically he his our future 4 liner and would be great
Sennecke in my option could be the steal of the draft
I reckon you blokes record this in the arvo?
Montreal need a Power Forward/Agitator Brady Tkachuk type player. Maybe look at trading for Rutger McGorarty. Montreal should also look at drafting a strong Puck Moving Shutdown Defeseman who can play on the first pairing?
Why not trading calgary's first next year + defence prospect for a top 10-15 draft this year ?
The "lack of high end talent" narrative is annoying. What exactly do they consider Slafkovsky, Reinbacher, Roy and Hutson to be? Why do they pretend that teams have better high end prospects just because they are stll in the minors or junior
Matheson for Necas is an overpay. I’d want Mercer type. Necas is this years PLD someone will be really disappointed
very cloak and dagger at the combine vibe
Habs hands are tied for the moment until they get rid of contracts like Gallagher Anderson Dovorak Price to free up money this will not happen getting high end talent
We are handcuffed, but not as bad as you would think. Suzuki, caufield, dach and newhook are on good deals.
If we move savard, armia, Harris, dvorak that frees up 12.75 mil. When Guhles ready to ask for 5+ mil it will be time to move on from matheson which frees up another 4.875.
Jake Allen and Jeff petry are off the books at the end of next year which frees up another 4.2mil.
There’s about 21mil which can be cleared over the next two season.
Which prices contract will be over as well gifting us another 10mil then we have Anderson and Gallagher for one more season.
Natches is supporting top 6 not a difference maker
Necas wants to leave for the money 💰because Carolina has Jarvis etc to pay....
1 Celebrini
2 Demidov
3 Iginla
4 Lindstrom
5 Sennecke
This is a draft with several very good defensemen...it would be very surprising that one does not get drafted within the top5. Based on Montreal"s needs and what we heard via the media, it is obvious that Montreal will likely take one among Lindstrom, Tij or Sennecke.
@@powers1500Sennecke doesn't go top 10.... C'mon! And if 4 forwards go top 4 you can be sure Hughes picks Levshunov
@@davidgosselin1193 I agree, if Levshonov falls at 5th, Montreal will run to the podium to pick him. As far as Sennecke...time will tell if he does not doesn't go top 10 !!!
Sennecke will go top 15, Habs should trade jets pick to get to 12-13
Why not Sam Dickinson at 5?
Bonjour messieurs,
I have a question. There is a lot of talk - that's what fans and media do - about the quality of the Habs' prospects, attempting to project their role on an aspiring team. There are several young players and prospects, especially on defense, that are deemed replaceable or undesirable (that may be an exaggeration). Yet I find myself thinking that some are nevertheless valuable and almost necessary because of the salary cap. What I mean is that while it would by glorious to have three Kale Makars and three Shea Webbers in their respective primes on our D-corps, that's just not feasible. It's why i'm not so quick to write off someone like Jonathan Kovacevic. His contract is inexpensive and he seems fairly reliable for a 6th or 7th defenseman.
I think an interesting approach would be to break down by cap percentage what each of the four forward lines, each of the three defensive pairings, and the goaltending tandem should get (and maybe earmark a little bit for a 7th d-man or 13th forward). I`d be curious to get your opinions on that. How much of the cap should the top two d-men get? And from there, if we project potential salaries (for example, it's estimated Ghule is likely to get 5.5-6M/year), is well priced for a 1st pair? 2nd pair? If he fits better as a 2nd pair defenseman, does that mean the Habs would likely need to cut somewhere else?
This is a great podcast. Thanks for all your hard work.
I think the fourth line physical role you're talking about could be filled by players like Luke Tuch, Florian Xhekaj, Jared Davidson, or Emil Heinemann.
As usual you guys are a great listen. But If Lindstrom get a clean bill...the next 3 will be Demidov, Levshunov and Lindstrom in whatever order. Silayev involves both some risk and some time. One of the next group of forwards will be a big part of our future but do you really want to make another "Dach type" trade? Would we be better off drafting another type of unicorn to play on our bottom 6?
Not a popular opinion but would it be a better choice? And maybe we could develop an analytics team that studies only playoffs. (And any variations/differences...
Since this is an accelerated rebuild, we can expect Montreal to try to make a push as soon as next season to make the playoffs...but I don't believe they will succeed next year but in 2 years, they should possibly make them. However, this rebuild has not produce any elite talent, just good players. Montreal should really try hard at the 2024 draft to leave with 2 picks in the top15 which could become genuine good futur top6 players instead of just trying to give away good assets in a trade for a 7-8 million player to help the offense. Indeed, the Dach trade has had potential but still has not paid off yet...!!!
@@powers1500Sennecke, Eiserman, Helenius, and still a top D should be available at 10 and 12
@@davidgosselin1193 I am not sure David about Sennecke but I am with you for Eiserman and Helenius.
@@powers1500id be happy with Levshunov and Eiserman
Love the podcast guys!
When I look at UFA the Habs could get, I usually check for former Kent Hughes clients... so I wouldn't rule out Anthony Beauvillier this summer.
Looking forward to see how Mesar’s assets transposes in the AHL.
L'amitié et la complicité entre Marc-Antoine et Arpon me rendent fier d'être Québecois et Montréalais!
Your podcast is probably my favorite Habs podcast... and I listen to ALL 1000 of them!
Yeah, look at how the huge analytic crew helped the leafs win only one playoff round in the last decade. 😂 analytics is overrated!
Hey Fellas do you think Beck could be a Jordan Emberla style player, or maybe more like Gally?
We have Florida’s goalie 😂, to keep Spencer Knight
Arpon went hard trying to save marc antoine from the aussie cancel mob
Wedell isn’t afraid to take Russian players!
And Columbus has a history of taking Russians as well so a Dman or Demidov aren’t off the table.
They will not pass on Demidov or Lindstrom. They already have 4/5 Russians
HUGHES MONTH : )
Agree... just have to find a fit if he stays with the team. Not wanting another year like last year.
basu n godin noooobook
When will the Habs ownership purchase their own JET airplane that seats 60+ ... It would help attract more and better UFA.s Also, I hear that Bombardier can give the Habs a great deal. Both parties would win... 50 years ago the owner of a hockey team in California had purchased a personal airplane for his team.. The Jet could have a fruit juice bars, some seats facing each other with a large table, playing cards , playing chess, a massage table room, an office for the coaches with 2 huge monitors, sleeping berths for 6 ... etc .. etc ...
