Funny how random videos come across your feed. Fred Slingsby was my great uncle and I have paintings he did of his designs, handed down. A special man and even though I dont go gliding myself, I know he and his designs are deeply respected by those who do. Thanks for this upload. Beautiful, beautiful glider.
The Petrel is one of my all time favorite sailplanes. I never dreamed I would ever have the chance to fly one, since only two exist out of three built: this one (second one built) and one in England (third one built). Then this one was part of a collection of vintage gliders donated to WAAAM, where I am a volunteer pilot. I am so incredibly honored to be entrusted with this priceless jewel. IVSM 2021 was the first time I was able to fly her the way she was designed: away from the traffic pattern, in prolonged soaring flight! I think her handling, she flies better than she looks. She is incredibly quiet inside during flight. Fred did everything right on this design. From the Colonies, I salute you and your family!
@@scottgifford2869 Thank you Scott for your kind remarks. Certainly a one of a kind design! The footage was perfect. Maybe one day I will ascend in a glider. Maybe a Slingsby....I wish you the very best my friend. Regards,
Bravo, you have GoPros all around your glider, but there isn‘t one picture of the whole glider or some footage from the ground showing the beautiful shape of this glider.
FANTASTIC!! Love the camera angle from wing.! And outside cockpit v.s. Typical view from inside! Looking for images of it landing from field view? Or someone in another glider in the air? And what is the ship in the distance? Can’t wait to attend next VSA meet at Harris Hill. (When retired).
I suppose it's a fine looking glider , but from what we see here it's so hard to say . Would have been nice to have parts of the video with the whole glider .
No doubt modern gliders are incredible machines, but old timers were a piece of art .
Hands down, one of the most beautiful gliders ever designed.
