Hi, I am Austrian and just wanted to comment on the holiday / religion topic. People in Austria generally aren’t that religious, especially in big cities like Vienna they aren’t at all. These holidays do have a religious background but by now they are just days off by the government (for all) + additional school holidays. It really is nice to have them though. 😊 Thank you for your great and informative videos, it’s really interesting for me as an Austrian who has been to the US a couple of times to hear your perspective. Happy new year!
So interesting to hear about the differences in how "elders" are greeted compared to "contemporaries" in Austria. I will be visiting Vienna next month for ten days, and being in my late 60's, I will be paying attention to see if anyone greets me in the appropriately respectful manner! Love the video - you have such a nice presence. I will be looking forward to more.
You need to leave Vienna and go to a small village to see that behavior, in the city you only great the people you already know or your imidiate neighbours
Shopkeepers and waiters will probably greet you with the more formal greeting as they do that will all adult customers, not just elders. So you will certainly get that opportunity :) Vienna is lovely, you will certainly enjoy your time there. Just don't expect American customer service, it is more laid back here. They won't bother you, you will have to call them over to your table. But you can also just sit there and enjoy and they won't try to get you out so they can seat someone else.
This is very cool to see the differences!! I felt like when I moved to Mexico I had very similar experiences to you in Austria; however, now in Bali its a bit different!! I would love if you could do a vlog of what things look like in Austria (like scenery, shops, village, etc). Thank you for this tho and look forward to seeing more vids!!

I always find these small and big differences very interesting, especially when you only know one side of the coin. Very instructive
Thank you😊
