Isaiah 41:9-10 ESV [9] you whom I took from the ends of the earth, and called from its farthest corners, saying to you, “You are my servant, I have chosen you and not cast you off”; [10] fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. [13] For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.”
Joy is definitely a feeling and a choice. We can be in the middle of a storm in life and still choose to be joyful rather than despair because of the promises of God. Feeling joy is also a choice because we need to be mindful of those promises which in turn can fill us with joy.

Andy Stanley has a great, albeit controversial, commentary on this. He claims that because the OT covenant was fulfilled (Galatians 5) the promises are no longer relevant. However, many if the same promises are restated/reaffirmed in the new testament. Thus is very encouraging.
Helpful teaching. This is not a simple issue. As far as relevance of the Old Testament for Christians is concerned, we need to modify a lot of what it says in the light of the New Covenant realities that are now up and running. The example John Piper gives of the end of Psalm 51 is a good one. So, for example, in v. 18, when it says 'cause Zion to prosper', in the light of New Testament teaching that the church is spiritual Israel (e.g., Phil 3:3), our equivalent prayer as Christians would be: 'Cause your church to prosper'. But in other places no modification is necessary. So, for example, in Psalm 54:4 the promise 'God is my helper' is exactly the same for us as it was for David.
Piper, in light of the many current world situations where people are being denied life and freedom, would you mind reassessing your assertion that “Christians communicate a falsehood to unbelievers…when we act as if policies and laws that protect life and freedom are more precious than being a certain kind of person”?
You can accept most of the verses. But you can't accept verses like example this, Matthew 1:20-21 [20] As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. [21] And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Such verses were only for specific person in the bible. So there are many such verses in the bible which we shouldn't take it for ourselves.
Very good summation. I feel like the one missing piece here is the Eucharist. Reformed Baptists used to believe in the Real Presence of Christ’s Body and Blood in the Eucharist. Sadly, that precious truth has been downplayed for a very long time. The sacrifices in the OT were replaced by the once-for-all sacrifice of Christ on the cross, yes. It is finished. But that once-for-all sacrifice of the Son, though finished and sufficient, is re-presented again and again to us and to the Father, by the Spirit, celebrated, and eaten by faith. By real participation in that sacrifice (1 Cor 10:16), we offer our bodies to become living sacrifices. And in this way “a pure offering” is being offered to God among all the nations, as it was prophesied (Malachi 1:11).
I am confused (not really) about your preaching on the New Testament and that is for the church, body of Christ, new creature today. Now I do take the Bible literally so perhaps you are spiritualizing it. which to me is wrong. However, in the 3 main portions of the Bible the Spirit thru the author of Hebrew 8:7-9, and Ezekiel 36:24-32 and isa 31:31-34 speak of and describe and promise or prophesy of that NT is clearly mentioned and spelled out that this NT of putting laws etc in the hearts and minds of believers is directly offered and given to Israel and Judah. This is not even debatable if one just reads the words written on the page, not the church in this age of grace. In fact the risen Jesus gave Paul a secret/mystery that had been kept secret since the world began, Romans16:25 being just one of dozens of verses proclaiming this. Obviously, the prophets and their writings were not kept secret but boldly proclaimed and taught. We are under no covenant. We are offered grace accepted thru faith as Paul says, the obedience of faith. My filter as you say is the mystery is 1. We are in Christ and have no part in the blinded nation of Israel at this point. Rom11:25. 2..This secret/mystery was given to Paul the apostle of the gentiles. Eph 3:1-4. 3. The gospel of Christ crucified. Eph 6:19, The mystery concerned Christ's death burial and resurrection. 1 For 2:7-8. 4. Christ His body, the church. Eph 3:4-6, Eph 5:32, Unlike the nation God created in Israel, this church is called the new creature. 2Cor. 5:17. 5. The riches of Christ. Eph 3:8, Col 1:25. 6. Christ over all. Eph 3:9-10!!!! Eph 1 :9-10. To me anyway, taking the Bible literally, it is obvious that the NT is given to the little flock or believing Israel and will be instituted in the future but has part in what God is doing today in and with the church. we are under no covenant. doesn't the new covenant say I will put my laws in your heart and mind and thus no man will need taught etc etc. Is that happening today since we are under the NT?

On what revelation did Jesus build the Old Testament ekklesia?
Why didn’t you support the pro life president?
He supports the pro-life cause, not a mere unrepentant man.
