- General Daniel Morgan’s battle plan at Cowpens was considered a masterpiece of military strategy and tactics. In Fall of 1780, General Nathaniel Greene sent a portion of his men under Morgan to fight the British in western South Carolina.
In response, Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton was sent to chase after Morgan's army. Tarleton met Morgan's men on January 17, 1781 at the Battle of Cowpens.
Morgan learned a lot from the mistakes of Waxhaws and Camden. Because he understood his troops’ capabilities and the landscape of the battlefield, he was able to layout a plan that would change the entire plan of the Southern Campaign.

My 5th Great Grandfather, Nathan Harper (Lenoir NC 1764 to Muhlenberg KY 1841) was at this battle under Nathaniel Greene. I am extremely proud of his sacrifice for our nation. This video is fascinating.....thank you so much for sharing this.

Amazing, literally the greatest fighting force in the world at the time. Bested by a rag tag group of conscripts, and retired British officers turned American with the help of the French of course.

@@lesdodoclips3915 General Howe assembled a massive force to cross the Atlantic and secure North America. How is that even an excuse? Not to mention many engagements the Americans were outnumbered.

Tartleton’s engaging his troops immediately after a forced march is salient here. The British troops were fatigued when the attacked.
I am descended from General Daniel Morgan and I am a patriot.
General Morgan grew up 7 miles from me here in Hunterdon County, NJ. In the town of New Hampton.
No the first line was about 187 men from the battle of Kings Mountain. Tarlton as to avenge the degeat of Fergusson at Kings Mountain. My Ancestor, James Patterson was under the command of
Col. Isaac Selby there. Fergusson had invented a breech loding gun that could fire 3 rounds to a man with a musket and do this lying down where the enemy would see them. Morgan ordered the first line to fire two shots at epaulets, reload and run back to the second line, turn, and fire at the British, drop down and second line fire over their heads. Fisrt line turned and fired at the British who thought their guns were empty, My ancestor was knocked down by a sword across his back. But got up and continued the fight. His affidavit is in the National archives, James Patterson and was made ib 1846 at Shelbyville Courthouse available in the National Archives in Washington DC. I have writtrn it in my family history. You always form square when facing Calvary
You forgot to show Washington's Dragoons turning the British flanks. Both flanks. This video misses the important parts of the battle, the re-engagement of the militia, Andrew Pickens men, and particularly the American Cavalry. Why bother?

The Maryland Line, the Old Line, had fought well throughout the Revolution saving General Washington and our army in the retreat from White Plains. In the battle of Compens the Old Line and the Delaware Line showed themselves to be the equal again of British Regulars and as men among men. As they had done many times without the fanfare of New England printing presses and historians by exemplifying the spirit that carried the army when many armies would have long given up. God bless "Washington's Immortals" and our country.

found a pension request by the widow of my ancestor that fought in this battle ...William Cato ...revolutionary soldier ...was interesting to see what appears his signature .... the earliest account of Cato's in South Carolina 1684 first of my family born in the North America
Morgan's plan was to stall Tarelton long enough to get across the river.
