The muskets really aren’t that inaccurate, lines of men are easier to direct in combat than open ranks, and you get more effective fire if you are in a line because you can easily see if your men are leveling their muskets too high. Human beings have a natural aversion to killing each other, you need training and peer pressure to get most people to do it in combat.
I am sorry to hear that. Gates was definitely a horrible commander who took credit for other people's success. He was a shameless self-promoter who only care about status and personal gain.
I have 3 ancestors that were officers from Maryland Virginia and Deleware. The officer from Virginia died of his wounds he received a bayonet in his leg.
On behalf of myself, my wife, my three children, their girlfriends and wives, and my two grandchildren: I am grateful for their sacrifice and thank them for their service. May Liberty prevail.
How can British troops "invade" the territories of the Crown By the way, how come the background music features the Ca Ira from the French Revolutionary War?

The United States declared itself an independent nation. To the United States, it WAS an invasion. To the British Empire, it was just a rebellion.
