- This is the second video in a series. You will come along for the ride as we complete a huge project on a 60th Anniversary L57 7.0L Convertible Corvette. The Corvette 427 Convertible blends elements of the Z06 and ZR1 models to create the fastest and most-capable convertible in Corvette's history.
Its heart is the 427-cubic-inch (7.0L) LS7 engine from the Corvette Z06. Rated at 505 horsepower (377 kW) and 470 lb.-ft. of torque (637 Nm), it is the most powerful engine ever installed in a production Corvette convertible - and, like the Z06, the 427 Convertible is only available with a six-speed manual transmission. (posted on conceptcarz.com)
The LS7 was co-developed with the Corvette Le Mans-winning GT1 engine and features lightweight titanium connecting rods and intake valves, as well as racing-inspired high-flow cylinder heads and a dry-sump oiling system. It is assembled by hand at GM's Performance Build Center, where customers who purchase the 427 Convertible Collector Edition can purchase the Corvette Build Experience option and assemble the engine that will power their new car.
Supporting performance elements in the Corvette 427 Convertible include the driveline and rear axle system from the Corvette Z06, a rear-mounted battery and standard Magnetic Selective Ride Control. The standard 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels are wrapped in ZR1-style Michelin PS2 tires. Lightweight machine-face Cup wheels - introduced on the 2012 Corvette Z06 with Z07 and Corvette ZR1 with PDE performance packages - come standard and include unique gray-painted pockets. Black Cup wheels or chrome ZR1-style wheels are also available.
The 427 Convertible also features several carbon-fiber components that help reduce weight, including:
• Carbon fiber raised hood (introduced on the 2011 Z06 Carbon Edition)
• Carbon fiber Z06-style fenders
• Carbon fiber floor panels
• The 'CFZ' carbon fiber front splitter and rocker panels are optional on the 427 Convertible, and included with the 60th Anniversary package
The weight reduction brings the 427 Convertible's curb weight to 3,355 pounds (1,522 kg). Combined with its 505-horsepower LS7 engine, it gives the 427 Convertible a power-to-weight ratio of 6.64 - or one horsepower for every 6.64 pounds of vehicle mass. That's better than:
• Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet - 6.90
• Audi R8 5.2 RSI Spyder - 7.58
• Aston Martin DBS Volante Convertible - 7.82
• Ferrari California Convertible - 8.31
The combination of low mass and high output will make the 427 Convertible one of the fastest convertibles in the world, delivering estimated 0-60 performance of 3.8 seconds, quarter-mile performance of 11.8 seconds, lateral acceleration of 1.04 g and a top speed of more than 190 mph.
The 427 Convertible is available in 2LT, 3LT and 4LT trim levels and will carry a unique vehicle identification number sequence, similar to the Corvette ZR1.

I have to say I’ve had good results with both clay bar and mitt, thank you for bringing back the microscope, VERY eye opening!
Another great part of the series and the foam looks like a foam party. I have been using clay bars for twenty years and twenty years later I am still the guy who drops the clay. For this reason I use clay mitts because they clean up easier than a clay bar.
Clay Bar user here. I really like how the clay bar can get in tight corners and right up to emblems and rubber trim. If I did detailing for hire you'd see me break out the clay towel.
Quite possibly the thickest snow foam Ive seen you use, looking forward to part (iii)
I can't even explain how excited I get when I see the microscope come out.. I imagine it's similar to your team scoring for sports fans..
😁
For clay, I use a bit of everything, but I tend to go back to AM Details fine clay bars. I use smaller pieces than most people and downgrade new paint only bars to wheels and glass duty before tossing them so that helps extend their life a bit. I usually only use synthetics during decon on heavily contaminated vehicles and come back and spot clay with a bar before correction. I don't automatically mow down every inch of every vehicle now after seeing your process. Thanks Brian, amazing series! 👍👌✌
After you showed us the Kinco gloves you wear I ordered a pair. Might be the greatest, detailed oriented, item I’ve purchased in a long time😂. Thank you so much!
Always love your miniseries. Thank you sir.
That relaxing 15 min video went by fast! Great video!
Lovin the series!
I have used the fine Nano Scrub, Sonax disc, Griot's round scrub and my favorite by far is the new improved of the OPTIMUM clay towel by The Rag Company clay towel since it has a light blue surface to see that is time to clean it with little soap or diluted APC. If the car is really constipated clay is the way to go. Love for you get a TRC towel use the microscope before and after. I have softer paint on Honda's and all the newer cars are getting so soft.
I like your water filtration system. Keep up the great videos.👍
Holly shit the snow foam is thick as peanut butter.
That was the most 90s slo-mo. I like it.
Use bilt hamber clay bar
Can see clearly what its pulling off and can get into tighter areas with it
This is good stuff Brian!!
Well done 👌🏼
That foam was thicker than a snickers!
Another really good series Brian , seriously enjoy each and every video.
Over the years I have used many different things to remove contaminants off a vehicle. I keep going back to clay bars and ONR for a lubricant.
I like using both a mitt and clay bar. Clay bar for heavy contaminated vichles mitt for light contamination.
I like to use a clay bar on heavily contaminated paint, and use a mitt on paint that only has minimal bonded contaminants.
I like the clay mitt cause it's cost effective and faster. I rinse first, foam, rinse, foam for a contact wash, and re foam it to use the clay mitt. I don't get that many swirls or light scratches from it which I like.
I have seen people mar paint with clay mitts but I have never had any visible marring using a soft claybar. Also the claybar gets into corners easier. I've been tempted to buy a mitt but I prefer to be gentle with my clear coat.
Really nice series ✊I love the corvette and to see you transform the black is like nigh and day✊
Clay bar over mitt.
The Corvette looked good white 😂.. and I like clay mitts but also have to break out the clay bars sometime when the mitt just don’t cut it
I'm a diy and after using mitts for 2 ys I went back to clay bars, they just seem to work better for me and with the right paint softness and hand pressure I get really good results I fell less marring ect. Brian.
cool microscopic view!! i use Optimum Clay Towel ,i double the onr in 1 gallon pail, and use right after the Ferrex [iron remover] has done its job. to make sure i have extra lube. so i decon in almost one step. Also, if i drop the Towel, i just rince it off... its also easy to wash, and wear n tear is visible.. i remember when Auto Magic came out with the Clay Magic!1 with the detailer spray. big revolution back then!! ;-)- i would use a clay bar on really bad contaminated cars, but rarely do so now!
I prefer clay mitts on vehicles with softer paint or newer vehicles. Clay bars for everything else.
I actually clean my clay bars. Simply set them in hot water a drop of soap and knead them like dough until they're clean. Rinse and repeat if necessary. Use a set of kitchen gloves so you don't burn yourself of course.😉👍
I’ve always used a clay bar. I never thought a rinse and reuse was such a good idea.
I can't believe you don't have an indoor wash bay. Has to be brutal washing cars outside in the winter.
Nice job on the vette an I like the clay bar fine nervous I will scratch my paint up bad I heard you can even with fine I always check it with a zip lock bag over my hand after a good wash an dry it's a pain I have a 10 inch lifted truck with 37 x 20 x13.50
I agree..I like clay bars better.
I really like how your managing the content with variety, from teachings, to product reviews/ teaching/ blogs, and a mix if them all, thanks Brian. BTW the Jersey Devil you are using has to be in my Top five favorite products, especially this time of the year on michigan, where cleaning is more about keeping the dirt and grime moving, I use JD (not to be confused with Jack Daniels) to wipe out all my jams and spot clean the paint, wipe down my coated wheel faces, and go over my glass 2-3x/ week. Yeah I took adavantage of XS's Christmas sale and bought 2 gallons, so worth it. I even keep on my truck with a few TRC Pluffel towels, to hit bird droppings, etc.. what are your current top 5 winter products for the PA area or anyone else in thier area?
Clay bar for more stubborn gunk the mitt cant always get to.
I like to use both because it depends on how contaminated the vehicle is and how soft or hard the paint is. Would you kindly correct my assessment according to your vast experience?
Prefer using an actual Clay Bar also. Usually go with Meguiars Mild Clay. The clay bar is more effective and easier to get into tight spaces. I sometimes use the Griots Garage synthetic clay on newer vehicles mostly that do not have severe road grime.
hi Brian, love the foam action. Can you tell us what your traffick film ratio and product please
I use an Synthetic Clay Block
I use the mitt's and a bar. The bar picks up what the mitt does not.
Brian can I use cleaner wax to get rid off bonded contaminants?
I use both. Great video!
Is there a clay wash mit that can be used every few washes as a wash media that doesn't mar the paint? The idea would be to wash and clay in one step. Maybe that's not safe?
Not that I am aware of.
another master piece good friend. why special cleaner 4 rag top not apc?too high on ph scale?
I use blue clay magic. Why? Its the first one I bought. Never had one before. Fortunately the car was really bad so I could see and feel how well they work.
use mitt and towel.after 5 surgeries can't need into a little patty.
If that foam were any thicker I'd owe it child support..
😂😂😂👍
Can you test dpc maintenance wash car soap?
Brian have u ever used Optimum tire coating? Is it true that’s really hard to put on? Loved the special effects at 3:20 and 7:00.
Yes...I had no problem with application at all.
Very nice , what was the protection product used before storage ?
Just waxes....easily removed.
Do you regulate the pressure on the pressure washer? I want to use my gas ryobi with my short mtm wand but it’s too much psi I don’t want to damage the paint pls let me know thanks!
its 3am in germany...doesnt matter
🍻👍
Was using that sprayer for weed control now we use it for the cars. I wonder what's next.
Hi Brian Was interested in the “small” green blower you’re using. Is it trigger controlled?? A brand or link would be awesome
BTW I’m a clay towel guy They stay nice and wet for help with marring and are quick with my lightly contaminated ride Thanx for all you share
Same as this....www.amazon.com/DistiKem-Performance-W50063-Garage-Blower/dp/B00ZMW36CU/ref=sr_1_43?dchild=1&keywords=shop+blower&qid=1610737316&sr=8-43
Hello Brian, do you think a power-washer removes brake lubrication? Silicone & High-Temp lubes
While I'd agree with you I'd add that most half ass book time techs and do it yourself people don't do brake jobs correctly . Add to that I've NEVER seen any factory car come with lube on them
To a certain point...you will need to follow up with something like Citrol 266
Brian, I do not believe that's a Z06. Maybe someone can correct me, but I don't think GM ever made a C6Z vert. I think the anniversary editions had the LS7 with the body panels, but I don't think they had the aluminum frame, etc.
That is correct. It is a officially a Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition. You could order the 60th Anniversary package on any 2013 Vette -base through ZR1 model. They are white with silver/blue stripes and blue interiors. They only made the 427 vert model one year (2013) and 2500 units (half of the 427s made were white). It has the entire Z06 drivetrain (LS7) and brakes, ZR1 CF hood w/o the cutout for supercharger, ZR1 spoiler, ZR1 size wheel/tires, CF fenders and doors, and standard magnetic ride control on a steel frame. Only Z06 and ZR1 have the aluminum frames. GM couldn’t make a vert work on the aluminum frames w/o making major design changes which didn’t make fiscal sense for a limited production run in the last year of this (6th) generation corvette. With all that being said, it is as close to a convertible Z06 as GM got with this generation. So Brian is close to the mark. And he is doing such a good job with the project he can call this car whatever he wants. FYI this car is 100% original with 14,000 miles.
Nice cruiser . Definitely a car that doesn't need mods to just drive and enjoy !
@@whitneyestate1402 That's what I thought, thanks. What does it weigh compared to the Z06?
@@ssoffshore5111 3350 which is about 150 lbs more than a Z06
Cant wait for you to see it!!
how would u compare bilt hammer prewash over gtech citrus foam?
Both great. BH foams up thicker.
Can P21S paint cleanser be used instead of a clay bar? Would it work on moderate contamination?
Those products are natural...best used on lightly soiled vehicles.
I am a clay bar guy myself. I really don’t think the clay mitt does as good of a job. And I also want to see what’s coming off the car
I didnt realize that Bilt Hamber snow foam was that foamy?
That foam was a bit thicker than you usually like isn’t it?
This vehicle, I knew did not have a traffic film build up. I was ok with it.
@@apexdetail85 ahh ok. That was some thick stuff!
Ho dude try Allchem Virtus compouds please thanks!
What’s the best one and done for my 1st go
Polish?
@@apexdetail85 a project that cuts a little and polish all in one
What spray foam did you use?
Bilt Hamber.
@@apexdetail85 does this strip the wax.
What brand of power washer do you use? thanks.
Power Stroke, Bauer, and Kranzle.
Brian - is this one of yours?
This one belongs to a customer.
@@apexdetail85 Ah, either way, fun to follow!

For the love of God you don’t wash a car in a Circular motion its a straight motion. U just rise the potential of scratching the car
Shut it nerd and enjoy the video
I love these comments 😂. Try riding a motorcycle without a helmet ( just a example , don't recommend it ) a car at 50mph let alone 100+ gets sandblasted every second it's moving. Motion is meaningless with proper soap lube
Motion means squat. The second point... he corrects paint. I don’t think he cares what shape the swirls are.😂😂
That is complete BS. Whoever told you that likes to hear himself talk.
