- The final part of our adventure into making a historically accurate 1690s ensemble for Winifred Sanderson! How would the Sanderson sisters actually dressed at the end of the 17th century? Let's layer up with all of our garments from the last two weeks and find out!
Our third video covers the embroidering of an iconic stomacher, styling wigs, and finishing a few accessories! All leading up to a night of running amok, scaring our neighbors, and attempting sit ups in stays. First, let's look at goldwork embroidery. Then we'll dive into some unexpected history of silk hoods (and their witchy background). A few dozen bobby pins and some digging around in my closet later will bring us to a frantic evening of lacing up stays (we remembered to put on our shoes first), pinning on gowns, and futile attempts at keeping our wigs on properly.
Special thanks to Abby and Christina for being my sisters!

Oh to be a village weirdo with friends like that. Lifegoals.
I wanna watch how the neighbors react.
Right 😉🥰😎🙌🏽
the devil appearing before young women offering them silk... so... the devil is just creepy rich old men in general then?
Yup! Pretty much.
Sounds like a good way to get rid of a mistress.....
@@maxwellschroeder7935 bahahahahahah
Sounds about right to me
Yes.
Fun fact: Bette Midler actually said she styled Winifred's hair after Queen Elisabeth I. So yes, the movie is set a century after Elizabeth but as many have pointed out it fits the narrative because we don't actually know how old they are. Assuming they have been regularly steeling youth they could be centuries old.
She didn’t style anything. That would have been entirely up to the director and stylists.
Does anyone else think Abby makes the perfect Sarah? lol
She did take to it rather easily!
Yes, lol! I thought all of them had the perfect character matches!
Came here to say this :D
YAAASSSSS 🧙🏽 ✨💃🏻✨🎃👻
Amuck, amuck, amuck! That made my day.
The fact that you casually have a historically accurate Kathy Najimy cosplay in your closet is the most opulent flex I've ever seen.
I find it really interesting that Winifred's hair is an older style to 1690, as she is supposed to be an old woman in 1690, and stole youth to look that young, meaning her hair style could be a throwback to her youth.
Yeah for that reason I think it makes sense for it to be behind
People at times, kept hairstyles from their younger days & that shouldn’t surprise us - just like fashions didn’t change as rapidly, pre-19th c- hairstyles were probably even slower to change - I read about a woman, who was a old lady by the time the English Civil Wars rolled around- but she stubbornly kept her high roll hairstyle from the later Elizabethan era...
I think there might have been a lot of people a bit like Violet in ‘Downtown Abbey’...
@@OcarinaSapphr- people still have unironic hair fromt he 1980s i dont think its very odd at all for her hair to be out of date.
@@OcarinaSapphr- For old women to keep their out of fashion styles was also a good sign that she wasn't too concerned with her appearance as that might mean she was on the lookout for a man.
@@caligulalonghbottom2629 I have a friend who still has a version of a Farrah Fawcett from the 1970s.
just love that not only are you as historically correct as you can be, but you are having so much FUN in that outfit. I just love people acting goofy in gowns. Makes people of history seem more alive and... real? Although, of course Winifred Sanderson wasn't REAL, thats just a fairy tale so scare little kids........ or is it? mwahahahah
Somehow getting stuck on the floor and losing a wig seems incredibly appropriate to the sisters 😂
I love how after Abby's wig came off it was just left there in the shot at the end. I don’t know why but this reduced me to a flood of giggles. 🤣
Im just picturing satan owning a fabric store. "Bah! You! Girl! Leave that blend and come hither unto me for I have silks! It shan't cost very much, but your mortal soul. " ... Let's face it, endless free silk...We would all be damned! Lol
But your gowns would be fabulous though!
I'm down with that
@@yvonneburns2786 If you're gonna be going to Hell, might as well look good on the way down XD
Silk tulle is worth more than its weight in gold....
@@mausemadchenmi7144 I would hope so given its weight and price point. Hahaha
I love the texture the stitch/thread has given the snake embroidery.
It is awesome, right?! ^^
Go girl, stick it to the man with that silk hood!
Your Winifred cosplay turned out amazingly!!! Love the stomacher! You three get up to the best shenanigans! ;) Thanks for taking us along on the dress journey!
Your body language for Winnifred was spot on! 😍
It's just a bunch of Hocus Pocus! ('Tis a full moon on Halloween, so get ready virgins! I mean light the candles).
The embroidery was gorgeous. The costumes fabulous. Abby losing her wig priceless. Great video. 😍
I adore watching Abby and Christina lose track of the choreography and just slowly turn to each other while Nicole is too busy living it up to notice
Loved this series and can't wait to see whatever you have in store next
Note to self, get friends like this!!
Oh lordt, Abby's wig slowly fading away in the ending clip killed me, also I love the fit of the stays Christina was wearing..
Well that skit section was stinkin adorable && it’s awesome to see the complete set ❣️
Well that was awesome! The gown was already spectacular, but the embroidery on the stomacher shot it completely out of the park! Delightful play companions! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🖤
I’m always so cautious when engaging with unknown-to-me costumers. Some of them can be downright mean if not just pedantic and stuck up. YOU are a treasure and I waited far too long for the pleasure of “meeting” you. ❤️
You are living out my childhood dreams
Mine too! I was Winifred for halloween the year the movie came out!
This entire process was incredible from start to finish and the end result was, of course, beautiful. Also, incredibly educational! I feel a keen interest to go do more research into this specific era of fashion. Thank you for sharing your efforts!
Holy moly that stomacher came out amazing! I love the embroidery texture of the snake! 😍😍😍
You could even add a coin purse to the belt and it would be hidden by the fold of your Mantua
I think Abby had the most fun. Delightful video. More!
You did such an amazing job with everything! Even the wigs look great. 😄
I hope that Bette Midler sees this!
the fact that this only has 4600 views is CRIMINAL! I
Lol this is the kind of friends I need. 😂💜 I love the dress and video!
Basically Winifred had kept the hairstyle of her younger years (Don't forget they are elderly women that only appear young because they steal the lives of children), the other two just went and had some fun with their style.
Do love the Silk info. Did not know that before.
You did seem to have had a lot of fun. :}
This wondrous bit of historical hocus pocus made my day. You guys are fantastic and I love how the costumes turned out. Also thank you for the hilarious acting.
These costumes are awesome! They definitely still capture the vibe of each of the characters, and are beautiful!
The hair styling is beautiful. Also I'm constantly smiling at how you break all of Abby's hand sewing rules 😂
Hahaha, good eyes. They all have their strengths and are good friends 😉💗
Shenanigans and running amuck! The best kind of vlogs. Kind of frustrating to see dress codes that penalize young women have been around so long...
wasn't just young woman, there were rules for many ages. Just depends on which era you look at. And all of them penalised woman who were not "of means" like we often still do today.
Well, it wasn’t just women- & it wasn’t just the poor, either- rich commoners were probably more affected by sumptuary laws, than ‘the average Joe’... but I get what you’re saying.
Amok amok amok amok
WOW. The Winifred costume is SO STUNNING. Especially with the hood up!!! Makes me want to create my own silk hood 😍
Historically accurate, exquisite craftsmanship, and Hocus Pocus. This is the greatest thing to ever grace the internet.
THIS IS GLORIOUS AND I LOVE IT!!! great job guys!
You ladies seemed to have so much fun and enjoyment in all of this playing dress up. Love it.
I'm speechless and this time cat didn't get my tongue!
I watched Hocus Pocus for the first time last night and not only does this video now make a lot more sense, but I had fun spotting the iconic moments you three reenacted here!
I cannot ‘like’ this enough fookin times! Mwahahaaaaa awesome!!!!
Nevada is blessed to have you lot as residents. This is gold dust.
This is amazing, we definitely need more 17th century fashion videos, very little out there. My particular favorite decade is 1660s
This series has been the most awesome, serotonin-granting thing I've seen in a very long time. Thank you so much.
Not only the costumes and the wigs, also the re-enactment was greaaaaaat! 😲
This is Fabulous! Winnie is my favorite and she is my favorite to go as besides the bride of Frankenstein. Love that Stomacher. Fabulous Embroidery. I need to get my head out of..... and get to work. I also need to learn to do all my stuff right handed since I'm going to have to have surgery on my dominant shoulder soon.
This was Wonderful!!! Absolutely Wonderful My 'Mary' and 'Sarah' both Fabulous friends, passed away within the last 4 years. Too Young and very missed. So we haven't done them in a while. I'm so glad you have these people in your life.
This is fantastic!! That stomacher is bad ass!!! Great job!!! And you really kinda look like her with that wig and the way you did your make up!!! I love it! I also love your partners in crime. This made me smile and giggle. Thank you.
This video was such a laugh, I think you put a spell on us all 😂✨🕸👁
I have never wanted to be part of a friend group so much in my life.
Omg I loved this so much, THE RE-ENACTMENTS!!!🤣🤣👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
1. I want to do 17th century now... 2. This made my evening! Love you three!
I can’t believe I’m only just now seeing this. Abby as Sarah is the best pairing. This was a great video.
Wow Nicole, you and the outfits look absolutely amazing! I’m so glad I found your channel! I have always enjoyed your appearances on Abby’s channel!
While I loved the historical aspect, I was totally here for the shenanigans at the end! :)
oh man that stomacher is so gorgeous and now I want one similar
You are all STUNNING in your clothes and the hair-makeup combination lends to a startling Winnifred resemblance!
This is awesome! The design on Winifred's bodice is perfect and the three sisters still look like themselves. Great work!
The three of you together is awesome!
...And now I want a mantua... gorgeous!!!!
OMG! This brought me so much JOY! and AMAZEMENT!! Why is everything you do so awesome?? And three wonderful ladies together whom I love. Perfect. Must have been made by magick!
Very well done! I love how you kept your composer on the bridge (?) and the other ladies were like “what’s happening”. I love the stomacher with the book inspiration. Makes me want to do a 1950’s version. Next year... hmmm.
Composure, is what I think you mean.
I still don’t know how I’ve never watched this Hocus Pocus project series!?! So fun and delightful! Brought me a lot of joy today. I also loved watching you style the wigs. That could be fun around Halloween. So many people getting dressed up and super fun to show us what kind of wig to purchase or order and some basic styling suggestions for a few different time periods, themes etc…. Might be fun. Hope your capsule cruise wardrobe is going well. So looking forward to seeing the results.
The walk in the beginning is SPECTACULAR
The ending was absolutely priceless, especially with Abby losing her wig. lol
The 21 dislikes were the townspeople that hung the Sanderson sisters. 🤣
It's always nice to have friends that get you.
I just watched all 3 parts and found it to be delightful and entertaining to watch. I loved the attention to detail and historical accuracy in the costume. I definitely appreciated her letting us know what she did that wasn’t entirely accurate or what she changed and what she would change if she had to do it again. Can’t say that I will make one, but it’s nice to know that if I ever do want to all the information is here.
This is amazing you did a marvellous job!!
Nothing has made me want to watch this movie on repeat again
You guys should have taken part in the upcoming sequel since they had a Sanderson Sister Costume Contest scene! This is GREAT!
This series are the BEST. Thank you for making me laugh and also inspire me to try making a historical dress.
So he gave out silk, magic and acceptance the church don't have? Sign me up!
I must say I am happy the three of you found one another, great friendships are not so easy to form and the three of you clique well together.
Your historical cosplays are brilliant pure magnificence !!!!
Amock amock amock!
This is fantastic--educational and just plain FUN!! Thank you!
Very enjoyable project. The embroidered stomacher is fun. Also, the black blouse you are wearing in the introduction is gorgeous.
PERFECT !!!! I have watched Hocus Pocus so many times. You all were SO funny and excellent at the same time. Loved it.🤍
I know I'm late to the show, but I am so in love with you and your friends. Thank you all, you made my day and I feel happy!
I know this is late but I have to say that this was a wonderful project that you had done. Recreating the saunderson sisters costumes and making the historically accurate. I'd love to see more projects where movie garments are made accurate to the timeline.
This entire process was just wonderful to watch. Not only was it entertaining, but educational. Beautiful work, well done!!
The bookshelves, darling! To die for.
I always wondered what they would be like as historicaly acurate. Wonder no more , that was fabulous and Kudos to you for the Mantua it turned out lovely
So much fun! Cosplaying in friend groups is the best. The costumes came out amazing
squeeeee!!! I'm so excited to see the finish and I really enjoyed all three of these. Learned a lot!!
I may be watching this 2 yrs later but it’s just so much fun as the first time you played. I need to come up with a Winnie costume for this years Halloween so I’m getting a jump on it now. So I have 4 months, give or take, to do the costume, wig, which I’ll buy, sorry. Shoes makeup and everything else. Should be able to manage that. Famous last words. Great job girls, I loved this 🇦🇺❤️
Perfection! all of you. Glad you weren't permanently stuck on the floor.
Amazing. You all looked fabulous. Still trying to work out that stitch you used on the snakes.
I love it when you 3 get together. It always seems to end up with Shenanigans 🤣🤣
Hi, did you ever find out what type of stitch this is? I really want to give it a go as well! It's gorgeous!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this!! Nicole you make the perfect Winifred!! Both your cohorts were fantastic, and acting out some of the scenes from the movie were hilarious!!A+++ - this was just so fun :)
...we´re stuck on he floor, can´t get up to eat our pizza..... I laughed my ass off!
That was an amazing vid. Thank you so much for sharing all of your research, work and fun!!
This was delightfully and frightfully entertaining. I am all eyes on that glorious stomacher!
I loved the historical accurate costumes, and it's very interesting to watch.
I watched this on my TV and my cat tried to "help" with the embroidery.
Absolutely fabulous!!! So much fun watching you girls' shenanigans. The gowns were great.
Oh my.... guys that looks like so much fun!! Loved it, everything turned out nice.
This was amazing and just what I needed. 💜💜💜
That costume came out so wonderfully!
OMG I'm in stitches, this is the funniest! Thank you so much for doing this ICONIC look and bringing us along for the ride!
I am so in awe of the fun you guys have together.
