Gosh, that does bring back memories! When I was a kid, we used to take vacations camping across the US (60s-70s). We had the two-burner Coleman stove, a Coleman lantern, and a green canvas tent that held all 5 of us! Wow... Such memories!
Always remember to make a pot of coffee first as it takes the longest to brew and one has the added benefits of drinking coffee while cooking the eggs an bacon. Great video Wes thumbs up and thanks for bringing us along for breakfast.
Still have my coleman stove just like that one! Worked great 40 years ago and works great today. I too remember those S&H Green Stamps. Used to give them to customers when I was a check out boy back in 1974. Also bagged and carried groceries out to the cars for older customers and felt blessed to get a $0.25 tip! Those were better days! God Bless.
I've still got dad's stove and lantern. Bought new plunger leathers for them and they work like a champ. These two were pre 1980 models. More like late 60s early 70s. Yes, lots of memories!
Wes, I cannot thank you enough for doing this video. This truly brought a tear or 2 to my eye. I distinctly remember my father getting one of these stoves back in the early 70s when I was a kid, and he got it by saving S and H green stamps. Those of you from my generation will certainly remember the green stamps saved in little books that you could redeem for products.
@@gitatit4046 - S&H Green Stamps allowed my family to get our first car battery charger, which lasted over 30 years until it was given to another family - it's probably working to this day!
How cool is that. I have fond memories of camping with my parents as we traveled America with our Coleman stove and Coleman lantern. Nothing like the sound of that lantern as we bedded down in our tent. Thanks, Wes.
I’m from a large family and in the early 1960s we had one of those umbrella tents with the wing on both sides. The girls slept in one side and us boys in the other. Mom and Dad slept in the middle. When Dad turned off the Coleman light we would count how long before it went dark. I still use Coleman white gas/unleaded lantern and stove as they work in the cold better than propane and butane.
I remember that smell so well! We used Coleman lanterns to walk the creek at night to spear suckers and carp in Michigan, Late 60's to early 70's! Was a great time!
Lot of good memories bacon cooking on campfire, the smell of canvas tent and the smell of the Coleman camp stove. Those stove could be messy but a great product
Yes, I remember more than sixty years ago, my parents had a Coleman stove as well as the Coleman Lantern. Even the sound brings back great memories. Thanks Wes!
Even if i've never seen this before, just seeing the look on your face and the stories you told made ME feel nostalgic and emotional! Awesome video, man! Love from Brazil!
You could have done the entire video of the water scene - so peaceful!! We're campers & love cooking outdoors. Y'all will have so much fun, especially if it's cooler there. God bless y'all! 🙏❤️🙏👍
We raised our brood of kids from 1970 till 1994 when the last one left home. We served a many a mesl cooked on one of those. Mostly breakfast since dinner was usually cooked over wood at our campsites. We camped problaly every other weekend untill they left. Have a lots of good memories about those days. My oldest grandson has the camp stove and lanterns now and he and his family camps a lots. That stuff never wears out. LOL
Your videos never fail to entertain and educate. I remember the Coleman camp stove my dad used back in the '50s. This video surely brings back some memories.
Hi Wes. I have one of those stoves as well. I don't remember if mine has the red tank or used the bottles with a connecting hose. Mine has been in the shed out back for 25 years. I bought mine outside of Denver, Colorado when I was staying at the Rocky Mountain National Park around 1985. I was forced into going into town to get it after I had made a fire to cook breakfast on and the wood there burned into ashes and left absolutely zero coals. I had bought the wood from someone riding through the campground selling it to unsuspecting tourists like me. I think the wood was Aspen. Have good days!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. We had one when I was a kid in the 60’s. We used it all the time, camping in the mountains in Colorado, and trips to the lake close to home. Those things were indestructible!
I have my parents ORIGINAL Sears Camp stove. It is blue and was the precursor to the Coleman Green & Red one. Coleman sold their stoves as a Sears Brand before the started selling as Coleman. We still use it!
I have eaten hundreds of meals cooked over a Coleman Camp stove. My Dad's hunting buddy used to bring his stove when we went Cottontail rabbit hunting. His was old and had a round gas tank. I t work just as good as a new one my Dad bought. You sued to be able to buy white gas at regular service stations in the 1950's long before Coleman had their brand of fuel. When that stove lit up and that beautiful blue flame was visible, my mind went back to those "good old days". Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Up to light, after a minute, down to burn. I have my Dad's Coleman stove purchased in the early seventies, and pulled it out earlier this year on a camping trip - worked like a champ! The cool thing about the early ones like his is that the fuel tank can be refilled without removing it from the stove. Also, the pumper has a leather seal instead of the rubber one newer ones, like yours, has. The smell is important to me, too.
My my my! What memories this video jump started! Yes I remember the smell, the sound! I’ve eaten many a fried fish, dear camp chili! Pot of beans, and stew, from a Colman camp stove. Not to mention all the breakfast cooked on one of them.
I’ve still got mine and my Dads from the 60’s along with a red single mantle and green dual mantle lantern. Had them out during the last ice storm power outage here. When storing drain the tank and fill completely with diesel fuel, pump it up and open fuel control valve to get it all the way through the parts, and grease up any raw metal parts. Obviously drain and rinse before using again. Lots of great memories with mine too.
Thank you for sharing that! It brings back memories of camping and field exercises when I was in the Army (once Cav, always Cav!). The white gas was great! Had the 2 burner stove and lantern, lots of use at Graffenwohr Germany. One note, that white gas will leak if someone doesn’t shut all the valves, the result is nearly burning down a GP medium tent! Bacon and Eggs, classic.
I’ve had one of those for probably close to 35 years and it saved me several times when the power went out and I didn’t have anything but an electric stove. Mine cost $40 at that time in Walmart.
You have to give the pump a twist counter clockwise to unlock it first. I have a 30+ yr old one I use daily in my camper still. Well made and still kicking
Hey Wes, I remember that old musty smell you were talking about !! Could almost smell and taste that bacon and eggs meal you whipped up !! Happy camping to you ALL !!
That IS a classic! Coleman must have sold millions of those things because my dad had one and we lived in Hawaii! The exact same one. Great video bringing back great memories!
Man we spent pretty much most of the summer camping at the lake when I was kid. I grew eating off of one of those sometimes even at home lol when mom didn’t like heating the house up in the summer. My sister ended up with it after my dad passed away. I still remember the smell and sounds. I still got an old lantern but I doubt it would still work.
We cooked on one of those for about two weeks after Katrina knocked out power in our area. Clearing out the freezer was some of the best eating. We were more fortunate than a lot of people.
Ha! I’ve had the 3 burner one for at least 40 years and it still works perfectly! Got the old school Coleman lantern and it still works perfectly too. Coleman still makes replacement parts like lantern mantels, pump cups and gas generators too. Indestructible camping equipment. Coleman is the best!
A rookie skydiver finds himself plummeting towards the ground all while frantically tugging on the ripcord of his parachute all to no avail. He sees a man hurling upwards from the ground below towards him and yells :"Hey, do you know anything about parachutes ?" To which the guy replies "No, do you know anything about Coleman camp stoves ?"
I still have my now 50 year old Coleman stove just like yours..i had to replace the pump seal about 20 years ago. My box is in near perfect condition as well as the stove. Many many camping outings with mine. Great video ! TIP: Hold your thumb over the hole on the pump. This keeps the pressure from escaping as you pump it up.
I have an old one that has never been used. It belonged to my great uncle. It was made in 64. You can still get parts for them too. The leather gasket for the pump can go bad as well as the pump.
Great stoves. Colman dated all of their stuff when those were made. Look at the tabs on your fuel tank. The year and month will be stamped on those tank tabs that hang on the stove. Thanks for the great videos!
I've enjoyed plenty of meals off one of those (more than one, of course), Weblo's, Boy Scout's, then the Marine Corps. We stepped our kit in the Corps,. 😉 Nice look back! Thanks, Wes!
Your video reminded me of all the times we went camping. What happy memories! Thank You! I wonder where my camp stove and pattern is. Both of my pieces used propane containers not a container for liquid fuel.
You need a pot of grits going on the other burner to go along with the eggs and bacon. Still have the same type stove and lantern we used when camping in the ‘60’s
I have the old style and the new bottled gas style and take them with me when we go camping even though it's with a travel trailer. I just use regular unleaded gas in the old style. Years ago you couldn't use leaded gas and had to buy white gas or Coleman fuel.
Thanks for bringing back some great memories. Born in 1952 my family camped all over the Eastern US from Canada to Florida. The only way a family of five could take vacations. We had a Nimrod pop up camper. We had a two burner and a three burner plus two Coleman lanterns. Great memories. Thanks Wes
What a great find. Glad it works okay. Oh, and by the way, I could smell the eggs cooking. I just went into the RUclips setting and clicked on the SMELL On button. Enjoy! 👍👍👍
Hey buddy, that thing looks new, yeah they built that model for years, because it was a good product, and they still work, the new ones today have all the safety stuff built into them. If you bump it, it shuts down, tilt it a bit, it shuts off, move it at all while it`s running, it shuts off, that explains the cost, gone are the days of common sense, were you set it up in a safe place away from everything, now, if you burn your house down with it, because you were heating your house with it, and fell asleep, somebody would try to sue the Company, remember the old days, when common sense was just taken for granted, we as kids played with the steel Lawn Jarts, remember them, today you would have 1,000 kids in the hospital with a Lawn Jart stuck in thier head, now they are rounded, with a little weight on the head, I bought my 10 year old daughter a set, we tried playing, and 2 of them broke on the first throw, gotta love this China junk.
Put a capful of Seafoam into a full tank of fuel, and as you burn the tank down, it will help disolve any varnish on your check valve and the fuel intake pipe. Also, don't leave the fuel turned on. You will flood the stove and have a big fireball like you did. Crack the valve open until you hear the fuel coming out, then close it until you're ready to light. Leave the lever in the up position after you light the stove for a full minute. Yes, white gas does go bad. I've bought stoves where the fuel is yellow and smells like varnish. It still burns, but not very well. 😂😂

That was funny! From petting, straight to the cast iron skillet!😂😂😂

Like a pure psychopath lol and those pigs were cute to

Why did I laugh when Wes pet his pigs and then cut to tasty bacon 🥓... was I wrong to chuckle? 😅
I like fresh bacon the best.
I started collecting these in 2018. My folks never used one while we were camping, so I have no nostalgia for them, but my kids will.
pretty cool how you picked that bacon from the pig's ear.
wow I just had a flashback to my younger days we used one wend we would go camping
Coleman is still in business and has a very large distribution center in Gardner Kansas.
We have one of those in my garage! Ours is mint condition too!
You can tell the age ofColeman stoves by the numbermon them 425F were made from 1982 to1999!
Just for a second there, I thought you were going to cooks eggs and bacon!! FRESH Bacon!!
Home grown bacon and eggs cooked in a cast iron skillet on a Coleman stove. It doesn't get much better than that!

You have to unscrew the valve to pump it. Based on the label not being for pump gas or Coleman fuel I would say the stove predates 1990.
Yep, turns out 1981 to be exact.
Nothing is better than fresh eggs and delicious beacon serving hot! I missed the fresh egg smell.
