The WORST Thing a DM Can Say And What to Say Instead

- Adjudicating player actions in Dungeons and Dragons is one of the primary responsibilities of the dungeon master. This role can be made difficult when players want to try crazy things, or even impossible feats, yet, attempting to do these cool things is what makes playing fun for many players. So how do you meet your players and give them a great expereince?
Great video! I wish I would have known this for my first session. Now what I do is at the start of running a game with a group I tell them that in DND or pretty much any TTRPG you can TRY anything, whether or not you can DO it is different and depends on the dice. After that they are usually understanding if some crazy scheme goes horribly wrong and their characters suffer the consequence.
It makes for some memorable sessions!
I usually only say "are you sure?" if the player suggests something obviously stupid that will get them or the party killed and they might not have realized that yet.
My players usually double down and I think there is a distinction between extreamly stupid ideas and what you are talking about. The long and short of it is that in some cases it's better to say arr you sure then yes, but
What’s your opinion on not letting players take back what they say they’ll do?
I was listening to a dnd podcast and halfway through the first episode, the dm decided the players couldn’t take back their actions, which resulted in some pretty wild scenarios when they’d talk w/out thinking.
That is an excellent question! I’ve played with a lot of new players, with many having played D&D for the first time at my table. I have a pretty generous policy for take backs. I’ll probably discuss it in more depth with a future video, so be on the look out for that!
So surprised to see such a low view count on such a good video!
Thank you!
