I don’t have a lid and my frogs never jump out! Just down fill the tank all the way. Leave a gap of two 11/2-2 inches. I have plants that stick out of the water so I never got a lid
I have had African dwarf frogs for many years now. some have lived for a year as others live much longer. i have a female who has lived since the very first time i got some. she breed many times. however i haven't had much luck getting the tad poles to live long enough to lose their tales , they always die right before that stage for some reason? I have tried many different ways and different mates and no luck yet. One thing i have noticed about the females apart from the males(besides checking the tail nub) is that the males tend to be smaller around the belly and have longer thicker arms, as the females tend to be more on the round shape with short more skinnier arms. that has just been what I've noticed from my African dwarfs over the years. also, I'm pretty sure that they can change from mail to female and vice versa. I don't think I have ever experienced that with mine, however I have came across this in my research. One last thing, I'm not sure if all African dwarf frogs need their food pushed on the bottom. I've have had my frogs do both eat from the bottom and come right to the top as it floats. I tapped my cage very lightly and they know it's time to eat. they will come right up and pretty much eat from my hand. lol it is hilarious. however, this is only my experience I've shared and I'm sure it it could be different from others experiences.
Thank you for sharing your experience with ADF. I absolutely love my frogs and my female I have had her for a year and my male for two years. I had another female two years ago that sadly passed away. I never knew that they could change genders! You learn something new every day ;D
I was so mean how terrible. A very cute video and I like the music. I bet it's a Happy frog. They are hard to take care of and die easy. Good job girl!
LOL, I made this tank before I had any males but once you have gravel in there is very hard to change it because of the biological bacteria. I don't have the small plants in there anymore I now have large real plants that give my frogs plenty of cover. Also, I turn the lights off at about 6:00 pm every day so they don't have the bright lights 24/7
i forgot to mention about the singing. the males do. the very first time I heard this I had no idea where it was coming from because it's almost a low hum but with a high pitch, I don't know. I can't explain it. It's something you would have to hear to understand. lol Sometimes I can barely hear it , as other times it's all I can hear even when I am trying to not listen lol. Right now my males have been singing for 2 days straight. I think it's because of the nice weather? I have three females and two males. at this point. I keep them all together in one tank. However, I've heard from some people, not sure if they are correct or not, but they mentioned to me that the African dwarf frogs can and like to be alone in the tank. I have noticed that they enjoy the company of other frogs. but like I've said, this is just my own experience and what I have encountered over the years..

I just got a 20 gallon tank and i’m thinking of getting ADF and other fish. i want to know, how often should i clean it, are ADFs active and fun to watch, and can i have a sucker fish. I would also like to know if ADFs can go on a complete blood work diet or if they need a frog pellet instead.
Hey, I was just curious if someone could help me out, my one frog is rather skinny and is always floating at the top. Sources say that means he is 1 to 2 days away form death- but he's been doing this for a good month. Can anyone help me?

It would definitely be ok to have all females/males together! I would also like to add that breeding is very hard to do and probably won't just happen without you lowering the water level and making the water warmer.
I'm not 100% sure because I've never had them before, but they probably could but you can buy large packs of brine shrimp for cheap and that would help them grow big and strong. you can also buy brine frozen shrimp.
