Thanks Bob. I use those big plastic stick on hooks. Then I can hang the tops on the side of the tank while I clean. Are red root floaters as easy to grow as Duckweed?
Very well done.. I use green house glass as in the UK its just as cheap as polycarbonate and the glass cutter cuts it to size for me! cost me about 15 dollers all together for a tank thats about 85 gallons or so
Hey my dempsey loves the belly crwaler pike cichlid i actually had a wild caught one sent to me as a gift and just wouldn't get along with any of my fish and by accident on a water change they ended up in the same tank now they're inseparable!
Perfect, THANK YOU! I will be making some of these for all my tanks. My 50 gallon Rainbow tank is acrylic and has a weird opening on it so struggling to find a top..... and of course plexi glass warps....
Going to try this thanks for ideal bought a aqueon glass top for my 30 gallon that has a gap at the back I don't like thanks for the very informative video
Yeah, Suntuf Sunlite is such an awesome product! I've been using it for a couple of years now for my aquarium lids, and it does the job extremely well, especially since I have four large cats, the heaviest of which likes to roost on top of my 150 gallon! Super lightweight, strong, insulates well, and has reasonably good clarity. I have pet carpet pythons, too, and their enclosures are made from Sunlite as well!
Just as an FYI, those dimensions are for the 20 high not the 20 long. Great to know home depot has that product and that you shared the need for a Skillsaw to cut it. Thanks also for the knob suggestions.
Any suggestions for rimless tank lids? My dumbass got a waterbox aquarium and didn’t even think that there wouldn’t be lids for it bc the measurements are dumb🥲
That’s awesome! I have all glass but this would be what I would want if I had a fish room. Little Steen making me want a puffer. I have a few pea puffers and they make a mess! 🤣
I've been using the Sunlite poly sheets for a while now. To open the lids I just get a small piece of wood offcut and silicone it on and it doesn't come off the same with my glass tops that I have on a few tanks still. I made a video about it a while ago. I get mine from Bunnings here in Australia its $21 for a 600mm x 1200mm x 8mm thick sheet.
I'm trying to track down this product in Canada now, and frustratingly, Home Depot doesn't carry it here. But if they carry Sunlite down in Australia, should be possible to find it here, so you give me hope!
Bob to fish: I need to get you a female, but I don't know, you're kind of old, don't know if your heart can take it. Fish glaring at Bob: Well I guess that explains why there is no human wife around here feeding us eh pops? Knobbie knobs, my new fav word. 😂 👍💕👍
so I guess if you want a diy GOOD lid to go the way you went for the price? I have heard a lot about them but I haven't heard about how good of light gets in the tank & I take it they don't bow like the other does.
These clear double wall polycarbonate sheets are much better than those wavy polycarbonate sheets so many use...and equally as cheap to use for aquarium lids.

He’s a Steenfott... of course he is hungry. Speaking for all creatures of a certain age, our hearts can take it! :P How is is light transmittal with those tops?
It's all good Bob. No worries. For being smart technology, it's often pretty dumb. Two questions, do you know if I would be able to use a utility knife or kitchen shears to cut the Lexan or will it be ragged? How thick is the lexan? Thanks for this video, I've been wanting to do this for awhile.
It's the structure, it's like corrugated cardboard, stronger and more resistant to warping. Big thing with plexiglass is that it is porous, and absorbs water, causing the warping.
Doesn't polycarbonate warp with moisture... i use the clear plastic greenhouse roofing material .. doesn't warp, easy to cut with scissors and very cheap
Not anymore. That piece is now $ 44.98 at Home Depot. I just purchased one sheet last night. Plus Home Depot will not carry them any longer, once the supplies finish.
I buy 4x8 polycarbonate corrugated sheets that cost approximately $43 and then use clear command hooks for handles.
Glad to see the jungle Val starting to come back. Great DIY project. Merry Fishmas Bob.
I had to laugh when you kept making fun of the puffer not finding the clams you kept calling snails LOL good video!
Yea lol
I need to try this stuff for lids I keep breaking the glass ones and the clear roofing I’m using is too flexible. That stuff looks better

Thanks! Merry Christmas to you too

😂 love it. Lil Steen was not impressed with you picking on him one bit lol.. This will come in handy for me in the future, thanks for sharing!
thank you for the link to sunlite at HD, I could not find
Bob, does it matter which direction the channels run on the lids?
Generally it shouldnt matter. Only if you are making 3 foot or longer sections would i worry about it.
Do the lids cause the temperature in the aquarium to rise?
If so by about how many degrees..
Going to try this thanks for ideal bought a aqueon glass top for my 30 gallon that has a gap at the back I don't like thanks for the very informative video
Really liked the idea for the lids some I definitely be doing. Loved the mbu puffers I have to have one at home one day
Does the cutting machine you use cut it cleanly?

@@annethornton9938 Try looking for polycarbonate sheeting under a different name or brand. Sunlight is the brand here.
Where do you get your clams from?.?.?

I still need a full tour video. I have been away from all channels for 12 months! 😄😄😄🤟
Love that community tank! And you got some nice fish bro, good shit
What kind of puffer? mbu?
Yup, MBU =)

I have done par ratings with a par meter. They are pretty equal to glass tops.
What Sony camera is that? Do they all do it? I was under the impression that Sonys were good, but maybe they're not...
It is an amazing camera. It was a setting I accidentally changed.
@@SteenfottAquatics Ah, gotcha. Good to know!
Interesting video bro. Thanks for the tip. 😎👊
When all else fails..gopro with the win👍
Nice aquarium you have there
Nice idea. Me I recycled part of a broken refrigerator. Sometimes one should be creative in this kind of hobby.
just got a gopro i love it!

Yup, i cant stand the wavy ones. They let moisture out too.
Good vid! Like the DYI lids!

Buying a piece of plexiglass was cheaper for me on amazon. Just looking through videos to see how to cut it. I only have a ten gallon tank.
You need some of those rings of light that makeup tubers use
I got those, but only use it on my makeup tutorial channel

bit late to commet now but in future there are many video editing softwares that you can run your video through to increase the brightness
The puffer doesn't like when you make fun of his intelligence 😂🙊
Lol
Thank you!
Cute knobby knobs!😂❤
Nice
technologies can be hard
Hot glue the knobs on
Buy cheap picture frames and use the glass with a command hook. Bam.
Canon.
You got goop on your knobby knobs.
