      my lessons from having to do such in open water, at times cold water - is dont even start to wrestle with the boat until you have a life jacket on... so many times by the time i had the darn thing righted and my crew aboard - i was so tired i could barely pull myself up.. i still have a life jacket from 25 years ago that really gained my appreciation in a situation like that.. life jackets. very handy.

    I was thinking haul the water bag closer to the pontoon so it could asist with leverage. And tie a line to yourself in case you get smacked hard and the boat tries to blow away. Good lessons in how to right a capsized Hobie cat. Thank you for taking the time to make and share this video. Subscribed!

    Igor, I like it that you are a multi purpose sailor, able to sail from small to big boats. I have my doubts that other sailing RUclipsrs are able, too.
    Your sailing adventures through the North and through Croatia have been fantastic, but even the explanations about the rope handling let me learn something as an experienced sailor.
    As a sailor of similar qualities, I have a small boat (6m) on a lake, and I sail big boats (big cats, too) at the ocean (many spots).
    One remark to the capsized Hobbycat: why you did all this lifting mainly with pure muscles? One technique that I know is to stand (carefully) on the daggerboard. Another one is to climb on the top of the cat and to pull from there. The lift would have been much greater with lesser effort. Perhaps you can clarify this.

    • @IgorStropnik
      @IgorStropnik  11 месяцев назад +3

      Thanks 🙏 That was first time capsizing that boat just to learn. There are many things to improve. I was afraid to damage daggerboards but I will try them next time. Problems were leaking water bucket, angle of righting pole. Probably need bigger bucket. Can make loop with line on end if righting pole to step in.

      Wind will help you if you get the boat to the right angle. It will catch the trampoline and then help lift the sail out of the water. Just gotta be careful in strong winds you dont go back over the other side. But yes it can be exhausting and you need to be fit.

    Mate your righting rope is several meters too short. I would not like to see you try this in a lumpy ocean or during a race and as for that metal bar under the tramp that is bloody dangerous. Would never use that on a sailing boat. Have sailed Nacra 18sq and many other boats over the years and never had trouble like you showed. Good luck.
