The machine quality is amazing. Sevice not so much. Must have called them 4 times before they finally sent me instruction how to calibrate my machine. I kept having to call them to remind them to email me the brochure. They finally did. Then I ordered the digital dial indicator that comes with the special wheel. Paid for it in full and they send me the dial indicator and told me they would send me the wheel one week later cause they did not have it in stock. One month later I called them to remind them to send me the wheel. I got it 2 weeks later. I recently talked to another salesman about a felder sliding table saw. He seamed to be more on the ball. He gave me a price including delivery and send a guy over to install and calibrate it. Hoping to be able to afford it soon. There products are excellent quality and would still buy from them regardless of service. Hope that helps you make your decision.
@@KlausPedersen_gaffa The word I have from a FELDER/HAMMER source is the HAMMER line is made in China and assembled in Austria, so take that for what it is worth. I just went through a six-month ordeal that I ended up having two A3 31's delivered, the second one was to be a replacement for the defective one. And both ended up having major issues. I know many people have and love their HAMMER's, and I wish I could be one of them. But at this point, and after 20+ hours of technicians working on the two I got, I have decided to try my luck with the FELDER line. I am looking at spending more and getting an AD 531. Hopefully the third times a charm…

Nice. I had a smaller combo planet/jointer that I loved for job sites. Took a little experience to really appreciate it though, just like yours. For my shop I had separate dedicated planet & jointers. Retired now. Too many back surgeries & hardware in my back to bend & lift much now. I enjoy watching the projects you do.
Great followup. Glad you're happy with it. The format series gives you a wider bed (around 20", IIRC), power up/down (which I would love), and a more industrial fence. But really, the Hammer is all that most of us would need.
That was a great demonstration of your machine making a good piece of usable wood out a piece of wood that you could have made a sky out of....great machine....went down for Christmas but went down 1 day ....the next day visite and came back the other day...I did not have time to go and see you but I promise next time I will take the time if your happy to have me....CHEERS
How much do you take off per pass when planing (rotations of the crank)? Just got mine and it does not pull the wood through at a consistent rate. It sputters through. Can't tell if I'm trying to take off too much or too little? Thanks.

How much material are you taking off with each pass on the jointer? You need the GrnGate system, intergraded dust control system. I love my system, never have to touch anything to do with dust control. Just turn on the machines and mill wood! 👍🏻
I often plane wood 12 inch wide so I’m really happy I got the 16 inch planer. Also handy if you want to do cutting boards. If you want to build bird houses then yeah the 12 inch planer is just fine.
When you have it against the wall, what's the dimension from the wall to the outermost part of the machine (and could you push it any closer to the wall)? I'm considering this for my garage shop and am not sure if it will work. Thanks and nice video.
If you have a small shop I would recommend getting the rolling carriage (actually I'd recommend it regardless of the size of the shop). You can butt the machine right up against the and easily pull it away from the wall when you use it. Once you push the fence all the way in the whole machine is not much wider than the planing bed itself.
@@bluewren65 Would you say, about 20-24"? I'm also looking at the dimensions as the space it will be going in is quite tight. It's already a good fit with my 8" jointer there so I would imagine going to 16", I would lose some walkway space, but just wondering how much space...
@@davidn7945 if you want to use it at full capacity, you need at least the width of the jointer capacity in between the machine ad the wall, since the fence moves back
Good follow up video. Just curious why you are not using the jointer guard? Apparently a much better system compared to the north American "porc chop" guard found on most jointers. Bonne Année 2020!
Happy new year a Jason! I feel pretty safe not using the jointer guard when I joint wood 2" or thicker but I always use it when jointing less than 2" thick.
No if I do a lot then I usually put it on. If I joint 2” or thicker then I feel safe without the guard but I still have to be vigilant and know the danger of the machine.
@@frenchriversprings feeling safe is very dangerous, you should work safely. Check everything before turning on the machine, always use the blade guard in the correct way. Like the machine... put the guard on the cutter block, it only takes one tiny slip to remove your hand!

The Format machine also costs a lot more $$$ and the Hammer is a pricey enough machine as it is.

I was taking off about 1/16". My dust collector was hooked up to the machine.
I'm debating between the A3-41 (16" wide) and A3-31 (12" wide) models. How often do you find yourself actually using more than 12" in width?
I often plane wood 12 inch wide so I’m really happy I got the 16 inch planer. Also handy if you want to do cutting boards. If you want to build bird houses then yeah the 12 inch planer is just fine.

Yeah the Euro guard works really nice. Better than the pork chop style for sure.

I always run wood through the thicknesser first and at that makes it easier to run through the jointer as the thicknesser will run of the bumps.
