- In March 2021, Scott Pelley interviewed federal prosecutor Michael Sherwin, the leader of the investigation into the assault on the Capitol that January. Sherwin had charged hundreds for their role in the insurrection and provided details about the individuals and groups who took part in the assault.

When you enter in a State Building with restricted access and participate in aggresive behaviors/destroying state property then it shouldnt matter whether you were protesting or not. You had plenty of time to walk away from this and you didnt. You knew what you were doing and should be treated as having specific intent.
Most didn’t destroy property. For them, it’s simple trespassing.

Normally I'd say let the judges decide, but this case has so much political slime on it, it's not as straightforward as a single person breaking into a building. There's more moving parts, and therefore it'll obv get treated differently. A lot of court decisions are based on precedent, the problem is, everything that happened that day was unprecedented. It'll be interesting to see what comes of it, if anything. So far (2024) a few people have been scapegoated into taking the full wrath of the justice system, most go untouched.
Trump gave them the gasoline and matches then told them to go to the Capital. Then he hid, nursing his shin splints and watched it all unfold on TV.
Trump told them to stop and go home. When Trump said “we gotta fight” he didn’t mean literally. Even the FBI admitted there was no collusion. You wouldn’t see that on your side of the news though.

Tell a group of rally goers the election was stolen, tell them to march to the Capitol and that you're "right behind them", watch gleefully on TV while they commit crimes on your behalf and you do nothing about it for hours, then later, after the damage is done, say: "Oh, I didn't mean it LITERALLY" because those keywords are needed to avoid a true prosecution of oneself.

It's important to know that federal prosecutors have suggested sentences in the judges have given these people less than the recommended sentencing from their own prosecutors.
That's almost always how sentencing works. The prosecutor asks for a heavy sentence, the defense asks for a light and the judge sentences somewhere in the middle. There is no obligation from judge to prosecutor or vice versa. Nor should there be.
Judges don’t have prosecutors. Blind justice? A judge should remain impartial and let only the facts dictate his decision.
They should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Everyone of these defendants if found guilty should be put in a place like Guantánamo not in the general jail system where they can meet like minded fascists to build A greater Netwerk of like minded traitors.

However, because U.S. clandestine forces have little oversight, we honestly don’t know whether or not govt. informants helped stoke violence.
Because our country pays informants to get others to break the law, sometimes feds cook up chaos. See: Gov. Whitmer plot. See: FBI entrapment of Muslims under Bush., etc., etc.

Only the Federal government, through the Office of the Attorney General, can file charges of insurrection. If you know anything about the legal process in the United States, you know that the wheels of justice turn slowly. In the hands of the Federal government, the pace is glacial.
