February 8, 2022. Magnifique est la Danse sur Glace de Marina et Gwendal! I was watching clips from the Olympics and this Ice Dance by Gwendal and Marina came up in my list of topics. It's so wonderful to watch this again after many years. I met them back stage in person in 2002, 2005 and 2006. I wrote to them in 1998 after they won the Olympic Bronze. They both wrote back. Gwendal wrote many times over the years up to several years ago. There is no one who matches them in their unique style and passion. I miss seeing their Ice Dancing. From the USA 🇺🇸

Gwendal a très bien réussi sa reconversion professionnelle, il est très brillant et pas que sur la glace. Pour moi le plus couple de danse sur glace ! 🇫🇷🧜🏼♀️
Музыка Бетховена всегда воспринималась как возвышенная, утонченная. Всегда в сердце живет мечта о гармонии музыки, движений, мимики, жестов, выражении лица, костюмов. Создание единого, целостного образа - это большая удача тренерского штаба. Музыка ведет за собой и рождает неповторимый образ. И зрители получают огромное эстетическое наслаждение. Возвыситься душой до музыки - это прекрасно. Это прекрасный путь в прекрасном виде спорта.
The only team that IMO came close to them were Denkova & Staviski. But they were all the way down in 10th place here if you can believe it. The Bulgarians skated one of the most original free dances that I've ever seen. The only negative thing I can say about it was that it didn't have the content of A&P's FD.
They were scandalously robbed of a world title here. They had been robbed of another world title in 1999. The judging was dreadful, and very biased. Ice dance judging hit rock bottom (corruption.) But Marina and Gwendal´s reputation remained unscathed. Audiences and fans´ hearts warmed even more towards them. In 2002 they became Olympic champions.They were and are considered by many the god and godess of ice dance. And They remain the BEST ice dancers ever till today.
There were none before them and none since than can compare. I miss this kind of competition in ice dancing. I can forgive a few slips in footing given the fact that Marina and Gwendal flew across the ice with great speed and power. They were perfectly matched in strength and unison. Their programs were always unique, beautiful to watch, technically difficult and told a story that built up to the triumphant ending throughout the dance. I don't think they were ever given the scores they deserved for technical merit. By comparison, ice dancing today is kind of boring to watch.

some judges give them 5.6 and 5.7 in technical merit and 5.8 5.9 to the italians whereas the programm of the french is clearly superior and more difficult than the italian's one.

Most ridiculous result in the history of ice dance, period. Even a sloppy Gwendal is still ten times better (at least) than Margaglio. This free dance may not have been their best, but it is an insult to even compare this with the Italians' free dance. And they had changed their original dance, which was a bit "meh" at the Europeans, but which was also better than the Italians' at the Worlds. Fusar-Poli/Margaglio did not even belong on the podium, Lobacheva/:Averbukh or Drobiazko/Vanagas were also far better skaters than them.
Seriously, I've just re-watched the Italians' free dance... Margaglio's steps, skating-wise, are almost beginner level. I'm not exaggerating. Take away the lifts and the spins (which are also rather poorly done), there's almost nothing. It's all crossovers, standing on two feet, skating or turning on flat edges (you can't even tell the edge most of the time). Even his twizzles are bad, they're not really twizzles because they're not smooth enough, they're more like 3-turns. And everything is sloppily done. Look at Gwendal by comparison. First, he has far more difficult steps. The holds are also far more complex and difficult for him to manage. But most of all, he has deep edges, real knee action, power, speed.. That's what makes the difference between a poor skater and a great one.
Oh yes at 100%. Fusar-Poli/Margaglio le couple le plus surcoté de l'histoire du patinage. Quand je pense qu'ils ont osé pleurer aux JO 2002 de ne pas avoir gagné. Margaglio avait à peine un nivau de junior, je partage votre avi il ne danse pas il marche. Fusar-Poli était plutôt bonne mais bien loin du niveau de Marina. Un bon gros scandal oui.
February 9, 2022 Maritzio's skating ability was far inferior to that of Gwendal. While watching the Figure Skating events this Olympic Games, I am thinking of Gwendal and Marina and missing seeing their unique, creative, passionate and expressive Ice Dancing.
The Italians had a very sharp and well rehearsed performance and it looks as though the judges mistook that for content and difficulty (for whatever reason - I can't explain it).
I know, it was ridiculous! The judges didn't know what was technically difficult and good quality skating, I'd give the Frunch 5.8 and 5.9 for Technical merit and, 5.9 for presentation

All I can think is corruption judging by corrupted judges and extreme favouritism for FP/M. Imo this is the biggest robbery in Ice dancing history on par with the 2002 olympics when FP/M won bronze with mistake and a fall instead of the Lithuanian couple.

Как говорит тут немецкий коментатор, по большому счету не так важно сколько раз ты становился чемпионом мира, если ты стал олимпийским чемпионом. p.s. ну и конечно хорошо, что Марина и Гвендаль относились к тем спортсменам, кто после неудач с удвоенной силой готовился к следующему сезону (у них оба предолимпийские сезоны были не очень в плане результатов). Зато к обеим олимпиадам они подготовились очень хорошо.
Месяцем ранее в Братиславе на чемпионате Европы Марина упала и оценка за технику 5.2 задвинула их на 2 место. Судьи не прощают ошибок. И в Ванкувере в марте 2001 г даже новые костюмы не помогли им повторить успех Ниццы. Это серебро. Ведь если бы Анжелика Крылова в 2000 г не заболела,то никогда бы Марина и Гвендаль не стали бы чемпионами Игр 2002 г.

I thought Anissina/Peizerat's Beethoven routine did not quite work as well as their other FDs artistically speaking. Not a fan of the musical arrangements, or of the theme, it looks a bit contrived. But technically... It was extremely complex, that's probably why they fell at the Europeans. To look at Fusar-Poli/Margaglio and say they are even close technically, is to ignore the whole "difficulty" element. Of course the Italians did not fall, look at Maurizio, he does almost nothing (I mean, compared to the 10 top skaters of the category, of course... though sometimes I wonder if I couldn't skate better than Margaglio on certain portions of his routine!) Maurizio is a nice guy but compared to his competitors, he really was a terrible skater.
Honestly looking at Anissina/Peizerat Beethoven FD routine of this Worlds now it has become one of my favourite FD routine from them. I didn't like their other versions of this FD in other competitions but in this Worlds I thought this FD was really complex with more difficulty, they had great speed and power and it was passionate, romantic and emotional and their choreography and movements flowed better with the music too and obviously they looked great and the outfits were great too if you compare to what other Ice dance teams were doing and wearing lol.
It looked like the judges knew what would happen before the event, there was no movement at all through the ENTIRE Eevent, that should say something. I agree, this team was far superior to the Italians in difficulty and quality
@@jbuda4263 in 1998 Bourne and Kraatz did not have the most difficult OD, they did not have the most challenging FD and they made a mistakes in CD - so, how did they felt?
@@jbuda4263 B&K programs in 1998 were void of content and they made multiple errors in the compulsories. They should have finished lower than fourth in Nagano and lower than 3rd at Worlds that year.
@@nilivier I also thought they should have won in 1998 as well since Grishuk & Platov did not skate there. A&P were quite a bit better than Krylova & Ovsiannikov in both the OD and FD that season. I also had A&P ahead of K&O at the 1996 and 1997 Worlds as well.

Honestly Anissina and Peizerat not winning this Worlds while Fusar poli and Margaglio getting the gold was a huge freaking joke! This was the most ridiculous Ice dance result in Ice dance history dare I say in whole of Ice skating history this level of robbery was next on par with Fusar poli and Margalio winning the Bronze instead of the Lithuanians couple in 2002 Olympic even with mistakes and fall and Sotnikova winning 2014 Olympics instead of Yuna. Honestly Barb was actually a pretty great skater but Margaglio was the opposite of it lol as a person he's a very likeable guy but his skating skill was really not at the level of Barb or even other top male ice dance like Peizerat, Kraatz, Vanagas.
A/P were sloppy at times in this dance but I do feel they won this portion of the competition by one judge, however FP/M had the best original dance of any team in the competition. It wasn't a runaway victory for FP/M but I do think it was a fair one.
No it wasn't. Margaglio is an horrible skater, really. And even compare FP/M with Gwendal and Marina is ridiculous. Two deferent galaxys. Saying that the italians had the best original dance of that competition is hilarious.

A/P were sloppy at times in this dance but I do feel they won this portion of the competition by one judge, however FP/M had the best original dance of any team in the competition. It wasn't a runaway victory for FP/M but I do think it was a fair one.
No it wasn't. Margaglio is an horrible skater, really. And even compare FP/M with Gwendal and Marina is ridiculous. Two deferent galaxys. Saying that the italians had the best original dance of that competition is hilarious.
