Excellent tips!!! I've been gardening for exactly a year, I always struggle growing lettuce from seeds . Since now I'm learning from you, I will grow me some delicious lettuces. Happy Gardening 😊
Have you been spying on my backyard?! Such a timely video. I’ve been out there all week staring at bare earth. I’m thinking my mistake was too deep and still too cold. Thanks for the super timely video!
This is the first year I did not get any germination from my lettuce and spinach. We had so much rain since March. I normally for the last two years I been planting my seeds for spinach and lettuce in the middle March. Because the gardener on RUclips said to do this and it worked. But this year it did not work
Ugh. Just planted lettuce seeds in the PNW. It's going to be in the 40s at night for the coming week. 🤞 And my radishes haven't sprouted after a week. 🥺
@@thebeginnersgarden I have a large GreenStalk with strawberries in it and it is working great. I have a smaller one but it got hit with fungus nats and the lettuce that I have in there is not doing so well. Here in So Cal the weather has been cool then really warm and the lettuce cannot keep up!
My lettuce seeds are driving me crazy! New to gardening and starting indoors. I would think indoors would have made it easier 😅 but I can’t even get the seeds to sprout! So this is extremely helpful. Thank you thank you THANK YOU! 🙏 hopefully I’ll finally get some lettuce!
@@nutterbutter865 Ohh okay, hope things are good with you now! I'm going to try a few methods, lets see if it works. I am removing the seeds from the pouch and putting them out in the sun before sowing them. Might help? Maybe if we transfer seeds from a dark bag straight to soil, it doesn't work. Not sure, lets see what happens.
@@einkmin5603 I tried putting seeds out in indoor light a couple feet from the window for 1-2 days. Then put the seeds on a wet tissue inside a ziplock bag and let it sit. 1/10 seeds germinated - couldn't get a better yield by any other method. I'm starting to think it is a temperature or seed quality issue because the seeds were very inexpensive.
I have had problems growing lettuce! I have seen where lettuce seeds were supposed to last 4- 5 years. I heard you say 2 years? I’m going to scatter some seeds and see if any take. 😂😂 Thanks for the video! 😊
How can you tell the difference between the green and red lettuce seeds/ seedlings? As ive got a mixed lot - dark and grey / white seeds, so I thought the dark seeds were the red lettuces..?
Mine sprouted but it seems they're just staying tiny and not growing. I don't know if they're needing more sunshine, which is on the way starting tomorrow, or what is going on? This is my first time gardening amd potatoes, tomatoes, onions all look great. Some things are just there but not really growing 😒
is 80 degrees too hot for lettuce seeds because i have a heat mat that i think warms up soil by 10 degrees and my room temp is 70 so its 80 degrees indoors for the seeds
Wow lettuce needs light? Didn’t know that.. no matter the fruit or veggie I grow I always use a sandwich bag with a damp paper towel and put it on top of my fridge where it’s slightly warmer and it cuts germination down by about half however I have never been able to germinate strawberries or lettuce this way
Any success with lettuce seeds yet? I use the same method as you but yes, strawberry and lettuce do not work. Strawberry germinated after 60 days of being in a wet paper towel. LOL
Thank you Jill, I used your coupon code as I am starting my first greenstalk original 5 tier times 2, and plant some lettuce seeds. Also, as I wait for the shipment to arrive i want to get the soil, is each tier a 1.0 cu ft bag, that would be 10 cu ft each bag of primo is around 1.0 cu ft at $14… thank you for your podcast and channel.
I bit the bullet and got me 2 grow lamps on the way. Gonna start early and keep a couple of mine inside just for me and and same year end I hope. Maybe I will have plenty for the whole family .. time will tell. 🙃

Excellent shot of your veggie towers thriving. I tried an Asian mix from the Asian store. All the lettuce came up within two days of sewing.
great information! Thank you!
Great tips. Thank you.
Good to hear all your mistakes. I've made my share in the garden too. Great information.
Very useful tips. Thank you 😊

Just discovered this awesome channel and just subscribed. EXCELLENT video, Jill. When you harvest the lettuce, is that plant done?
Great tips! Your lettuce looks very healthy and delicious.

AWESOME Tips!!! I just scratched in my lettuce seeds this time & saw germination in about 5 days!!🥬🥬❤️

Beautiful lettuces! Can you please tell us the varieties in the vertical grow towers, esp from 9:48 to 10:00 ? Thank you!
Your lettuce looks awesome, guess I'll have to start some in one of my herb pots, when is a good time for zone 6 SE Michigan
Depends on your average last frost date. I plant my lettuce seeds about a month before mine, depending on soil temperature.
@@thebeginnersgarden my average date is about May 15th, I usually wait till Memorial day for peppers and tomatoes, and frost sensitive flowers
The lettuce towers look amazing! I am jealous. What area are you in?
Thank you! They are Greenstalk Planters (I have a playlist of videos talking more about them.) I’m in Arkansas, zone 7.

Ok... I failed on all these so that explains why notta one of my seeds sprouted...🤦🏼♂️ Thanks for these tips!
I'm wondering this right now.
I’m having trouble germinating pelleted lettuce seeds, any tips?

I noticed germination rates declining after 2 years but that only meant I needed to plant more per cell to make sure I had enough sprout.

As ive got a mixed lot - dark and grey / white seeds, so I thought the dark seeds were the red lettuces..?
Lettuce seeds will survive very cold weather and still germinate when it warms up? Trying to plan for next season and will be direct sowing

Thank you for sharing! Others have succeeded and I thought I was alone in the struggle
Thank you for your advice but I would also like to know how you get such 'clean' lettuce, how do you keep the bugs away please?
In the Greenstalk they definitely stay cleaner and fewer bugs bother them.

Correction 2 bogs of promix = 1 cu.ft.
That’s 20 bags at $14 from Walmart 🤷🏼♀️
It depends on the pro mix you buy; the kind I buy is 2.8 cubic feet per bag, so I buy 2 bags for a 5-tier original planter, and I have some leftover.
I never know what kind of seeds to buy for lettuce
Is that greenstalk off of amazon? 156 usd
No, the link to order is in the description
