That is way more than a few moths. It's the reason I haven't bought one of these sorts of traps. Moths are needed as food for many different species of birds, especially when they have chicks. They provide much-needed protein. Beetles are a food source for toads and frogs, too. It's discouraging to me that nobody has come up with a solution that doesn't entail killing off every other flying creature unless it costs more than $500. I guess it's a testament to the power of the tiny mosquito to wreak havoc on the planet. I've tried the fans but I've never been successful, as they need to be so powerful. But I guess I'll try one more time, if it ever stops raining, as I don't want to get electrocuted using the extension cord! I live not too far from your area, by the way.
Because you don't want the mosquitos biting you on the way to the trap! You will be luring them in and you will be a sitting duck if you are too close.

It’s really not that loud at all. It’s like a hollow hum to it. Like a mini fan. I’m not sure about the smaller mosquitoes though, the wire mesh basket is totally fine enough to keep those inside though.
The problem with that is the bugs don’t die immediately. They have to sit in there for about 24 hours and dehydrate to die. So if you turn it off in the day time they will just fly out the top. The fan keeps them from flying out when it’s turned on.

Hi, great 'review' of the dynatrap :) I was wondering; do you think the dynatrap would work to catch fruit flies (indoors)? I'm looking at the dynatrap ultralight model (300 sq. ft.) in particular for us. Thanks for taking the time to make the video.
BBR, Hey, I found a info. video dynatrap did with someone and they did list fruit flies in their short list of insects. And the smaller (300 sq. ft.) model(s) are actually listed as indoor models and it says that outdoor models can be used inside with no issues, but that the other way around isn't advised - I guess more to due with the finish or materials maybe. Thanks.
I don’t know about every four months. I think I hit the hours in about 5 to 6 months, which is about a typical season of use in Buffalo. Also, the price of the bulbs is pretty low so it doesn’t make sense to skimp on changing them.
The mosquitoes were all dead, minus a couple. The fleas were mostly dead too, but here were a few that jumped out. End result still heavily outweighs anything that escaped.
It must be, even though I don’t think it’s stated outright. I’ve left it outside 24/7 since I’ve bought it through all the weather (except winter) and it runs like a champ.
This 1 acre version of the Dyna trap is designed to be water proof/weatherproof. I literally just plug it in in the beginning of the season and let it run no matter what.
I did just this year. Posted a video on how easy that was too. I figured $14 to make sure the trap is working as well as possible wasn’t too bad of an investment.
What's the "attracting packs" ? I live on a lake her in the midwest, now with all this rain I can see my summer being miserable with mosquitoes, I'm wanting to prepare before 7/4/19 festivaties.
I just bought one - so excited to see if we can enjoy out outdoors this year - would be the first time in8 years if so! Do you find it’s good quality and will last for a few years ?
Sometimes I think that the build quality is a bit low. It’s all plastic. But it really doesn’t do anything except hang from a hook. It’s held up outside for about a year now, no problems. And it works well, so idk if I really care anymore. Hahaha.
I don’t use anything to lure them in. I only used sensible placement of the trap and left it running all the time. Even the beginning of this season has started off great simply by turning it on and letting it run.
I honestly haven’t seen any considerable jump in electric bills, I don’t have exact usage numbers though. I leave it up and going 24/7 no matter the weather. It’s the first thing I unpack from the shed each spring!
Malathian concentrate-- 1 oz per qt. sprayer- 4 oz. per 1 gal sprayer -been using this for past 15 yrs since I retired up in Wi... Most of us neighbors use this-- and we also Spray our neighbors yrds. with the extra we have.. nICE TO LIVE IN A AREA WHERE NEIGHBORS HELP NEIGHBORS..
Honestly, I’ve never had a problem with them. I did look for an “outdoor cord” when I was looking. Idk really what that means, but it’s lasted a while.
I read that the bulbs are UV, but also a plate inside is coated in titanium oxide which emits carbon dioxide under the light, attracting the mosquitoes. So it's actually supposed to work day and night, and it's recommended to keep it on at all hours.
@@BuffaloBeerReviews An Amazon review from a beekeer puts 1/8" hardware cloth over it to keep her bees out. She said the light attracts them. I'm just getting into beekeeping myself so I ordered one and I'll just put the hardware cloth over it.
Pretty sure it doesn’t work very well for flies. I’ve seen other types of traps for flies that work well and are affordable. There’s one that almost smells like something is rotten, those work very well.
It’s a pretty fair price, I’m buying two of them, I went back home to visit my parents in Central America they have this season of this desease is call DENGUE the mosquito transmits it, hundreds of people die, my two daughters got bite bad, this girls are light skin those bites look horrible and I was afraid they were gonna go sick, fortunately they did not, so I really need this traps, thanks for the review
I’m not official on the companies opinion, but mines been on one since day one. I’m not sure how else you’re supposed to do it when the cord is 4’ long.
Go to dynatrap.com and it lists (most of) the bugs it traps. Then there's a link to contact them for the "many other" insects it supposedly traps. I don't know whey they don't just list them all, but hey, it's there. Peace.
We returned the 300 sq. ft. model. Didn't work at all for fruit flies. I just left out a piece of fruit and let them gather on it, then I grabbed my shop vac and got them all. Lol. Did that a couple times and there's only a few left around.
sure there is a continual cost of electric its just not in your face having to deal with propane but you pay your electric bill 12 times a year the only complaint i would have is having a big frumpy extinction cord screeched across your acre maybe check into a solar power hub you can turn into a bird hut or something clever
I'd wave my 1200 degree heat gun back and forth a few times to make sure nothing in that basket is living. Just long enough to fry the insects, but not burn the unit.
Ive watched several other reviews o the Dyna Trap, it seems to catch/kill a lot more than Mosquito's... moths and beetles dont bother most people. Seems to be an ALL or NOTHING device.
That is my big question. I don't want it catching the bees. I need the bees for my citrus and fruit trees. I suppose I could turn it off with a timer so it will not be running when bees are out.
I’ve never seen a bee inside the basket over the two + years I’ve used it. Other insects yes. But really mostly mosquitoes. The numbers look screwed, but I think it’s because the other bugs are so much bigger than the mosquitoes.
That is totally true. And I have not found out how to avoid that. I’ve seen some people put the trap in a freezer, but that doesn’t seem like something most people would do.... you know...?
Elaine Hagan, Yea, I was wondering the best way too empty as well. Maybe into a plastic bag or something, then tie it up (quickly, hah). But I think some might just escape..? I duno.
Put some ammonia or isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) in a spray bottle and spray a fine mist into the trap through the screen mesh before you open it and a bit more when you first get it open.
Yeah. I’m sure the prices would be falling. The video is almost 2-2.5 years old. Thanks for the heads up, I’ll get one for the front yard. I never did, other things came up.

I was wondering; do you think the dynatrap would work to catch fruit flies (indoors)? I'm looking at the dynatrap ultralight model (300 sq. ft.) in particular for us.
Thanks for taking the time to make the video.
Hmmm. I’m not quite sure. I don’t see why you couldn’t use it indoors. There are no emissions from it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it worked.
BBR,
Hey, I found a info. video dynatrap did with someone and they did list fruit flies in their short list of insects.
And the smaller (300 sq. ft.) model(s) are actually listed as indoor models and it says that outdoor models can be used inside with no issues, but that the other way around isn't advised - I guess more to due with the finish or materials maybe.
Thanks.
If you want to do that just put some tape on the bottom holes. And put a banana peel in the center of the fan
What about the every 4 month bulb change recommendation ? I s that necessary ?
I don’t know about every four months. I think I hit the hours in about 5 to 6 months, which is about a typical season of use in Buffalo. Also, the price of the bulbs is pretty low so it doesn’t make sense to skimp on changing them.
were the fleas and some mosquitos still alive i the cage?
The mosquitoes were all dead, minus a couple. The fleas were mostly dead too, but here were a few that jumped out. End result still heavily outweighs anything that escaped.
Is it waterproof? What happens when it rains?
It must be, even though I don’t think it’s stated outright. I’ve left it outside 24/7 since I’ve bought it through all the weather (except winter) and it runs like a champ.
Buffalo Beer Reviews thanks
Will it attract biting midges aka sand flies or bodega black flies or noseeums?
Good question. I’m not sure but I don’t think it does.
This thing saves money on bait for fishing.
I was thinkin the same lol.
Do you live in the South? And that's a long, long extension cord.
Hahaha. Nope. Buffalo, NY. And yeah that’s a wicked extension cord. But it’s worth it for the mosquitoes
What if you have a flood light on, right next to the Dynatrap? Would that impede it? Should I hang the Dynatrap somewhere else?
You should keep it away from any competing light source. Should be in a dark place to be most effective.
what about when it rains ? is it water proof ? or do you just turn it off
This 1 acre version of the Dyna trap is designed to be water proof/weatherproof. I literally just plug it in in the beginning of the season and let it run no matter what.
Great video, Thanks. Have you had to replace the uv bulbs yet? I know their web site I think says 3000hrs some smaller ones are 20,000 or more hours
I did just this year. Posted a video on how easy that was too. I figured $14 to make sure the trap is working as well as possible wasn’t too bad of an investment.
Mine came with two extra attracting packs. Must replace every six months.that and bulbs are only ongoing rxpense.
You know what, I did read that someplace, thanks for reminding me!
What's the "attracting packs" ?
I live on a lake her in the midwest, now with all this rain I can see my summer being miserable with mosquitoes, I'm wanting to prepare before 7/4/19 festivaties.
Can you have this sit on a table or is strictly for hanging. I need one bad!
Not completely sure, but I’ve had it sitting on the deck before, running. Whether it was for mowing or whatnot. Still works.
Needs to be hanging at least 3-6’ off the ground to work
Awesome.... thank u so much!!!
Being electric how does it hold up in the rain ?
I’ve never had any problems, rain or wind.
Thanks I just bought one and already in one night it’s trapped the bottom full of bugs
Has anyone left it out in the open during rain? Is that okay or not?
I just bought one - so excited to see if we can enjoy out outdoors this year - would be the first time in8 years if so! Do you find it’s good quality and will last for a few years ?
Sometimes I think that the build quality is a bit low. It’s all plastic. But it really doesn’t do anything except hang from a hook. It’s held up outside for about a year now, no problems. And it works well, so idk if I really care anymore. Hahaha.
I found it useful, but you made no mention about using a lure. I have a 1/2 acre and I am using a lure. Could you please comment on this. Thanks, Bill
I don’t use anything to lure them in. I only used sensible placement of the trap and left it running all the time. Even the beginning of this season has started off great simply by turning it on and letting it run.
How much is electricity cost per month to run it 24/7? I have a XL model.
I honestly haven’t seen any considerable jump in electric bills, I don’t have exact usage numbers though. I leave it up and going 24/7 no matter the weather. It’s the first thing I unpack from the shed each spring!
@@BuffaloBeerReviews Do you leave it out in the open without any shed?
Yep!
@@BuffaloBeerReviews cool thanks
Hi Brian! This is a great review. Thank you so much! Would you mind if we used this video on some of our social media sites?
I wouldn’t mind at all.
Awesome! Do you have a Facebook or Twitter so I can tag you in a post?

Thank you! I might not get to it today but will definitely share within the next few days.
You don't have an Amazon Store? Every good You Tube Channel has one. You could sell these little Jewels!
I just got 2 of them.... $143 each from Home Depot.. Goodbye Skeeters...❤
I just emptied mine out today, first time of season 2. Nice big pile of carcasses.
Didn't do anything for my mosquito problem, wish you better luck
@@damienbutler8512 yeah but 48 hours in and we have literally thousands of other equally annoying bugs eradicated

Great review. Is this trap for outdoors only?
I’m not sure. I can’t see why you couldn’t use it indoors, there no combustion or risk of CO that I’m aware of.....
Dynatrap makes a couple of inside models. I saw them on Amazon
Where is this from?.
Buffalo, NY
What about using the extension cord during rain or storms?
Honestly, I’ve never had a problem with them. I did look for an “outdoor cord” when I was looking. Idk really what that means, but it’s lasted a while.
Does it make any difference whether the UV light is on or not???? Mosquitoes are attracted to CO2, not light ....
During the day, probably not. But I think the light has a better range than the CO2 for attracting the bugs initially at night. For sure.
Several bugs are attracted by light, but not mosquitoes.
It doesn’t trap only mosquitoes.
I would be amazed to notice any decrease in the number of female mosquitoes (the ones that actually feed on warm blood).
I read that the bulbs are UV, but also a plate inside is coated in titanium oxide which emits carbon dioxide under the light, attracting the mosquitoes. So it's actually supposed to work day and night, and it's recommended to keep it on at all hours.
can you
leave this indoors with it pn?
There’s no combustible motor, no emissions, you should be able to run it indoors without worrying.
Dynatrap does make a couple of inside models. I saw them on Amazon
nice video, thank you.
You are welcome. Sometimes it’s a pain in the butt debating on whether or not to pull the trigger and buy one.
Does it get honey bees?
Ash Green I’ve never seen a bee in it. I wouldn’t use it if I found any bees in it.
@@BuffaloBeerReviews An Amazon review from a beekeer puts 1/8" hardware cloth over it to keep her bees out. She said the light attracts them.
I'm just getting into beekeeping myself so I ordered one and I'll just put the hardware cloth over it.
How does it do with house flies?
I don’t think I’ve seen it catch any flies. Honestly. The fly tape works just fine at my place for pennies.
Does it kill flies to, my yard has flies?
Pretty sure it doesn’t work very well for flies. I’ve seen other types of traps for flies that work well and are affordable. There’s one that almost smells like something is rotten, those work very well.
It worked for me! Flies are more of a problem than mosquitos at my house, and last summer, we were almost fly free!
Cool
It’s a pretty fair price, I’m buying two of them, I went back home to visit my parents in Central America they have this season of this desease is call DENGUE the mosquito transmits it, hundreds of people die, my two daughters got bite bad, this girls are light skin those bites look horrible and I was afraid they were gonna go sick, fortunately they did not, so I really need this traps, thanks for the review
Welcome! I love ours. It goes up early to start disrupting the cycle ASAP.
Are these safe to use with an extension cord ?
I’m not official on the companies opinion, but mines been on one since day one. I’m not sure how else you’re supposed to do it when the cord is 4’ long.
Buffalo Beer Reviews ok! Just wasn’t sure if when raining if the cord was safe !
@5:12 something is buzzing around you! Get that thing back on!
Does it attract kill every flying insect?
I'm not sure about its selection of bugs but it seems to attract and catch most flying insects.
Go to dynatrap.com and it lists (most of) the bugs it traps. Then there's a link to contact them for the "many other" insects it supposedly traps. I don't know whey they don't just list them all, but hey, it's there.
Peace.
I have one of these and I walked outside and was bitten by 3 mosquitoes.
We returned the 300 sq. ft. model. Didn't work at all for fruit flies.
I just left out a piece of fruit and let them gather on it, then I grabbed my shop vac and got them all. Lol. Did that a couple times and there's only a few left around.
I’m sure you did. I get bitten quite a bit too. Nothing is going to be 100%. But my overwhelming bulk of insects has been very happily eliminated.
How much do the replacement UV bulbs cost ?
Like $14 or something. I didn’t think they were that bad.
ticks?? ticks can fly now?? just makin fun; I want to get one of those dynatraps!
Idk, do they jump?
Can these run on batteries as well as electric ?
No
Buffalo Beer Reviews Thanks. You must have one heck, of a long extension cord .
Yeah it’s like a 175’ or something. I use it during the winter to get my generator down to my basement if needed.
Buffalo Beer Reviews Thanks again.
Welcome
sure there is a continual cost of electric its just not in your face having to deal with propane but you pay your electric bill 12 times a year the only complaint i would have is having a big frumpy extinction cord screeched across your acre maybe check into a solar power hub you can turn into a bird hut or something clever
I just bought 1!!!
Yeah be careful u wouldnt want to "get a tick"
The numbers look screwed, but I think it’s because the other bugs are so much bigger than the mosquitoes.
the thing i don;t like about it is emptying the darn thing... It has live insects in there, and they escape when you open it up to empty.
That is totally true. And I have not found out how to avoid that. I’ve seen some people put the trap in a freezer, but that doesn’t seem like something most people would do.... you know...?
Wonder if you could unplug and wrap in a black plastic bag and spray something in it and close off?
Elaine Hagan,
Yea, I was wondering the best way too empty as well.
2nd the Isopropyl alcohol in spray bottle. It will kill the live ones.
Coscto has it for $119.99
Yes, but does it come with extra bulbs, and 2 attractants? I got mine on QVC. I have a green one, 1 acre.
@Game Bred Duramax they sent me a 2 pack of attractant when I purchased mine off QVC.
Holy shit.
3 ACRES!? jelous dude!
Thanks. It’s a bit of work.
21Vicroy everyone should have a yard like that....except when it’s time to cut the Grass👍🏾
We got the same thing on qvc for half the price you paid
Yeah. I’m sure the prices would be falling. The video is almost 2-2.5 years old. Thanks for the heads up, I’ll get one for the front yard. I never did, other things came up.
7:18 the dog
I couldn't stand the noise on it so I took it back to the store
