  • In this installment I introduce to you to the bicycle choice we have made to ride the upcoming Baja Divide trip. The Surly Wednesday, is a steel framed fat bike- incredibly capable but also super heavy.
    In January 2023, Eric Archer & Michael Ladden will set out on the ultimate bikepacking adventure. Our goal, the 1700 miles, 100,000 plus feet of climbing & the tough sand, rocks and barren deserts of the Baja Peninsula. Starting in San Diego California we will ride south, ultimately reaching Cabo in the South of Baja Mexico.

    I got the exact same bike for the trails out here in Cyprus. I also got the Sram GX AXS, just as you have, but kept the original SX cassette (10 - 50). A nice set up with good shifting😊

    An aluminum Santa Cruz Chameleon (XC/trail hardtail) weighs 31lb. 5lb is absolutely nothing compared to that incredible amount of gear! (Except the wheel inertia turning at speed and quick acceleration, which I don't imagine you're doing a lot of.)

    It's called Wednesday following Surly's Pugsley fat bike, named for the Addams Family siblings.

    Can I ask what bike racks you use front and rear for the Wednesday? They have to be good to hold that much gear.

    • @drivetheglobe

      They are made by surly for those bikes actually. They are super heavy duty.

    The Wednesday was named after Wednesday Addams from the Addams Family TV show/movies. And of course her brother's name was Pugsley ;). Thanks for your video, looks like an awesome adventure.
    Mind if I ask you the size of your Wednesday and your height/inseam? I'm 5'-11" 33.5" inseam and a large seems right for me.

    considering a fat bike for regular Mt bike usage as well as bike packing, what are your thoughts?

    • @drivetheglobe
      @drivetheglobe  7 месяцев назад

      I love the fat bikes as they are a bit more versatile for both. You can certainly get pretty light ones now as well.
