- In this installment I introduce to you to the bicycle choice we have made to ride the upcoming Baja Divide trip. The Surly Wednesday, is a steel framed fat bike- incredibly capable but also super heavy.
In January 2023, Eric Archer & Michael Ladden will set out on the ultimate bikepacking adventure. Our goal, the 1700 miles, 100,000 plus feet of climbing & the tough sand, rocks and barren deserts of the Baja Peninsula. Starting in San Diego California we will ride south, ultimately reaching Cabo in the South of Baja Mexico.

I got the exact same bike for the trails out here in Cyprus. I also got the Sram GX AXS, just as you have, but kept the original SX cassette (10 - 50). A nice set up with good shifting😊
Good choice! Enjoy your riding!
Been touring on fatbike for over 10 years love it only way to see the world
Nice
Ha ha, looking forward to it. Certainly easy to see everything at that speed 😂
@@drivetheglobe just dont stop at to many bars lol
@@Bikepacking right on! We will try not to, but not gonna make any promises if I see a Cerveza!
@@Bikepackingis full suspension fat bike is good for all tipe of roads?
Awesome fatbike touring....center stand would be better than kick stand 🎉
Yeah. We ditched the kick stands and went with ski poles.
Love seeing some fat bikes in Baja! I also have a three toe Mexican box turtle, have had him for almost 40yrs!
Nice! Gonna ride the capre loop of the Baja Divide in March. My turtle is a Russian. Loves it down here.
Sweet ride, Id love to get down there sometime. Awesome footage, just subbed.
Thank you! Appreciate all of the support.
An aluminum Santa Cruz Chameleon (XC/trail hardtail) weighs 31lb. 5lb is absolutely nothing compared to that incredible amount of gear! (Except the wheel inertia turning at speed and quick acceleration, which I don't imagine you're doing a lot of.)
No. Nothing quick here at all 🤣
lol

I'm here from glamping doodles! Nice rig and I can't wait to follow your journey
Awesome. Thank you!
Miss my surly Wednesday loved that bike.
Love it. Prepping it now to do some more Baja.
I love the Spanish guitar music in this video series.
Thank you.
you know it would be really great to hear about all the awesome stuff you saw in Baja, but all you guys ever talk about is yourselves and your gear.
Well that was a pre ride video.
Looks like the beginning of a fantastic adventure
🤞. Hoping so!!
Oh Man ! That's gonna be a cool gig for sure !! Sending well wish's for continued good health and safe travels. I have a surly steamroller it's a fixie , the make solid stuff ! I prob. would have gone all mechanical on the componentry. I look forward to cheering you guys on from your upcoming posts ~peace~😊
Thank you for the support!!
It's called Wednesday following Surly's Pugsley fat bike, named for the Addams Family siblings.
Yep. You are correct. Love the bike
Can I ask what bike racks you use front and rear for the Wednesday? They have to be good to hold that much gear.
They are made by surly for those bikes actually. They are super heavy duty.
Great videos 👍
Thank you!!
Mucho loco 😅
🤣. Yes, quite possibly!!
How mutch water did you you se The most betwen fefilling stops
There were stretches that we had to go 4 days.
The Wednesday was named after Wednesday Addams from the Addams Family TV show/movies. And of course her brother's name was Pugsley ;). Thanks for your video, looks like an awesome adventure.
Mind if I ask you the size of your Wednesday and your height/inseam? I'm 5'-11" 33.5" inseam and a large seems right for me.
Thanks for the info! Wondered about the name. I am 5'10" 30 inch in seam and have a medium Wednesday.
Is full suspension e fat bike is good for all kind of roads?
Totally depends on roads. This bike is not electric and is very heavy.
@@drivetheglobe thank you
Bikepackers don't use panier setup
Well. Some do.
considering a fat bike for regular Mt bike usage as well as bike packing, what are your thoughts?
I love the fat bikes as they are a bit more versatile for both. You can certainly get pretty light ones now as well.
