The first time I heard this song back in 2019 or so, I thought, "This is very good," then moved on. But over time, it's stuck in my mind, more so than any of her other songs. The lyrics come to me often when I'm walking in the evening. She's a true poet, of the highest order.
Here in my paper crown With a glass of flat champagne I'd spar another round But I'm the only one who's still awake Oh, say when, say when And I'm headed towards the shallows Looks like I won again Another medal on the shelf I guess my record stands But I can't quit until I play myself Oh, say when, say when I'm swinging on my shadow Oh say when, say when Tell me Oh say when, say when I can't say what Would be enough I'm not so sure This is the good fight anymore To unlace is tough With both hands in gloves The good fight, the good Fight anymore I don't let go I don't give in I don't bow I don't bend I won't say no I won't say when I fold for no one And I, I always win Oh say when, say when
My favorite from Chime. Reminds me of Enya. Dessa you are amazing/genius and this album is already a classic imo. Thank you for you and everything you do.
I'll admit, I'm a sucker for the live version of this when she performed with Vocal Essence, but this is pretty sweet, too. Quite a contrast between the two, but still amazing.
I need to write Dessa a letter. I know we are strangers but she saved me so many times. I've had more than one epiphany when listening to her music. There are several songs in this album that I just /know/. I haven't heard them before because this album just came out but I KNOW these songs. Ya know when you have a moment when you figure out an answer suddenly and you have that short second of Oh! It all makes sense! That is one of 4 (3 or 4 I can't remember that well, I just remember talking with a college professor about this) types of brain waves, it's called a gamma wave. That AH HA! moment lasts about a fifth of a second. And in that moment your entire brain sings in perfect harmony. To me some of these songs feel like they fit into that, well, I'm not quite sure how to put it. I've had moments like those relating to things in some of Dessa's songs and when I listen to these songs it feels almost like I'm reliving that, listening to it is like all the pieces coming together of a puzzle I didn't even realized needed solving. Okay I'm done ranting, basically, I freaking love Dessa's music.
I feel like a lot of these filler tracks at the end of the album only have less views because they're near the bottom and most people don't pay as much attention to filler tracks. That said, "Say When" is one of the better tracks on the album alongside "Half Of You", two underviewed songs.

I love how 5 out of 6 and this are on the same album. The mentality of never giving up, and then reflecting on where that mentality leaves her.
OMG! It's 10/13/19 and I am just now finding this song!!!!! What a shame. Instantly in my heart.
Here in my paper crown
With a glass of flat champagne
I'd spar another round
But I'm the only one who's still awake
Oh, say when, say when
And I'm headed towards the shallows
Looks like I won again
Another medal on the shelf
I guess my record stands
But I can't quit until I play myself
Oh, say when, say when
I'm swinging on my shadow
Oh say when, say when
Tell me
Oh say when, say when
I can't say what
Would be enough
I'm not so sure
This is the good fight anymore
To unlace is tough
With both hands in gloves
The good fight, the good
Fight anymore
I don't let go
I don't give in
I don't bow
I don't bend
I won't say no
I won't say when
I fold for no one
And I, I always win
Oh say when, say when
This entire album has greatly exceeded my expectations.

Been waiting for the studio version of this ever since the 'Good Fight' live versions appeared. So different, but still incredible.

This album is killing me. It's a good way to die.
Absolutely

Why the title change? I liked "The Good Fight".
Justin Scott because she's not sure this is The Good Fight anymore... 8'p
Because "Good Grief" and "The Good Fight" in one tracklist would be weird, I guess.
Say when because she’s not sure when enough is enough?
Marisa? It's Jacque
